I always love watching, but rarely comment. The tuneup vids are very cathartic. All the satisfaction of getting a trusty axe back in shape with none of the stress and headache on my end. Thanks for posting up vids of you doing your thing.
Dave I have watched most all of your posts. I have really enjoyed them and have learned a lot of valuable info and many great tips. Thanks for your posts.
Hi Dave, been watching your videos for a little while now. Bout 50 odd I reckon. I love your style. You have a real dry sense of humour. Most likely that it is not appreciated by the majority but i showed my mate video and he agrees with me. just wanted to say, keep doing what you do. I love the 'no bullshit' attitude you take to your repairs. People bog themselves down with method and text books but i love your approach and how you do stuff. Just a thumbs up to be honest. Hope you read this post. Peace to all
I'm likin' that announcer more and more. That's a keeper. It's sounds like the David Letterman show. Saw the vid w/ Luke and the Apostles. Very cool sound. Man you looked like you were totally at home. Nice work...............a
I don't often play guitar...but when I do, I play the ES-333. I just like the look of those things, especially when they're red for some reason. Another good one Dave, keep them coming! #;-{|) lol!
Dave, instead of sticking the masking tape to the fretboard ... how about sticking it to the polish shield? The other source to look for is a drafting eraser shield (will have to cut it down). Or take an aluminum can and cut a "U" shape out with tin snips or an "0" with a utility knife, flatten cut edges between hammers and polish the edges. In a pinch a scissors "U"-cut cereal box type of cardboard works for one-off. As always, great vids Dave "Hey, Dave has a new one up!"
Hi Dave, Is there any chance you have done, or could do, a video on restringing a guitar. I've been playing for almost 8 years, but I still don't have a solid technique, and you seem like the perfect guy to ask!
A young man asked a hot lookin cougar to dance. She looked at him and asked in a sarcastic voice how old do you think I am? He replied well honey you’ll never be as old as you look. We all get old , just keep it on an even keel. I enjoy your stuff.
Hi Dave, I tried to post this question on your TH-cam discussion list earlier.. I saw a video of a guy covering an REM song on a Fender Showmaster. I noticed the headstock was turned around backwards. That is, the guitar was right-hand strum, but the tuning pegs pointed to the floor instead of pointing up. After some Googling, I learned the reverse headstock was a variant of the Showmaster. So question: Why does this variant exist? Why would a guitarist want a reverse headstock? What advantage are they trying to get? Thanks Dave, they really need to get you on CBC radio for a "Guitar Talk" show: guitar repair and crusty life advice. Great channel! -- Cal in Louisville, new subscriber
have you seen the new Stewmacula fret guards? they have different sizes and and improved notch to tie rubberbands to hold them in place... talk about even more tedious fret polishing..
Awesome vid as ever. Great tip about the string windings on the machine heads! Steel string acoustics however, I assume you dont put a knot around the heads as well? What about classical guitar stringing at the heads?
im trying to order one of their dvd's. the dang thing is $10 shipping. I pay less than that when I order dvds from England. oh and I buy 2 at a time from there also. its crazy. would love to see you do a scalloped neck video. maple neck and the refinish process to boot. have yet to see one in my countless attempts to find a video covering this subject.
cool as always Dave, thanks! Beautiful guitar indeed...But! How do you tell a 333 from a 335? I gotta blame you for wasting 13:14 minutes of my life in what felt like 1 minute!...hopefully you'll keep them coming a bit more often from now on...I agree about the string gauges too! Thanks again Dave and looking forward to seeing the next one already!
***** OK that was fast!...and thanks for this info, now I know! Ona different topic...what tools you need to file/polish fret ends? I mean I did see the video where you have that StuMac special squarish file but after that what comes to further refine then polish the fret ends? Finer files? 1000 grit sandpaper?
***** Dang!...now I remember a video you made and talked about the never dull! I'm all set now thanks a whole bunch Dave! And Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Dave, I saw you using a double sided fret crown file in a previous video, but where do you get them from? It had a screwdriver handle you took off to change grade.
Shouldn't anyone be worried about the perpendicular stress being applied to the neck when you (Dave) press down on it while polishing the frets? Additionally, isn't that placement (elevated headstock rest) stressing the body-neck joint of the guitar?
Hey Dave, I love watching your videos! I've been guitar for a year now and I love it! something hit my heart was when you said, " I'm getting older and I'm going to die". I'm a Christian and I want to tell you that Jesus will give you eternal life. You get about few opportunities to accept Jesus as Lord. John 3:16
Hey Dave, I own a Epiphone AJ-22OS acoustic guitar, and the damn E came off the scratchplate. I immediately superglued the sucker back on, but in the process I got some on the body of the guitar which hardened before I could wipe it off. What would you recommend to remove this shit?
***** It's not a lot, enough to drive you mad at the sight of it, but still just a minor gooch. Oh well, I'll attempt what you said. Thanks for your time Dave.
I found your name from a wikipedia of your band, then I googled your name and found a page with all the movies you've worked on. It looks like you've worked on tons of big movies, how did you get into that?
i got google+ but not facecrack but the other truth i have found is you feel as young as you are active so i bet your doing better than others your age, you look like a busy guy. Arthritis is really irritating as hell though.
Thanks for all your movies. They are informative and entertaining. I still laugh when I think about the squirrel and you burning your wife's piece of chicken. Sorry you have to deal with all the Ass Hats. I guess that's the price you pay for your fame. Keep up the good work.
Screw and saddle direction are interchangeable ... isn't that the great thing about the ABR-1? If you need a 64th to get a string to intonate, what would these anal retentives do? Flip the two-cent saddle or tell the customer he needs a whole new bridge? Holy cripes.
I could listen to dave for the rest of my life
I just left my 333 the way it came and I love it
"Age is just a number"! amen to that Dave! - 10/22/64!
Been here since the start Dave. Thanks for still making videos for us.

Word.
Made my own fret-savers from thin plastic. They do work and I know; I am cheap! Thanks Dave
Dave I have watched most all of your posts. I have really enjoyed them and have learned a lot of valuable info and many great tips. Thanks for your posts.
I once owned an es125, it was very old and mint condition, I should have kept it, this was a series of nice guitars Gibson produced.
Dave, still enjoying your vids. Can't wait for the new season to start. Been wathing reruns....but your still great the second time around. Thanks.
Hey Dave,
Love the way you work, love your videos.
Don't worry.....the material body is temporary...but YOU are eternal.
Cheers.
I feel your pain Dave on the age. I was born in 1960
I have enjoyed your vids. I am a 40 year player and I do my own work.
Thanks for the vid Dave! I enjoyed it!
Great stuff, my man. Been watching for awhile and your vids are always enjoyable and educational for this very novice player. Peace
as always I love the videos.. hope all's well..

Dude i love these vids
screws towards neck is correct, otherwise the strings break angle behind the bridge is impeded by the screws
+Needle HitsE ....yeah,you're right.......i've seen that.

We missed your philosophy class, Dave.

I have a 75 les paul standard and it has the same rings around the tuner bushings.. I was wondering how those might have gotten there.
Very nice guitar and great classic color. How old is it approximately, just out of curiosity?
cool as always Dave, thanks! Beautiful guitar indeed...But! How do you tell a 333 from a 335?

True dat Dave. Getting older blows. Hope your doing well though.
What grit of sandpaper should I use when polishing the fret like this?
hi dave, why not stick the tape to the bottom of the fretboard protector? so you dont have to move it every time ;-)
Have you thought of putting tape on the back of that thing so you won't need to move tape?
Yeah you have to watch out for those kerflufels. Everyone is an expert, just ask them they'l tell you.
Dave, do you remember what pickups were in that 333?
dave, what is the difference between333and es335?
Dave, I saw you using a double sided fret crown file in a previous video, but where do you get them from?
It had a screwdriver handle you took off to change grade.
dave
knowing you don't like stew mac, where do you get your
guitar work tools from?
Dave, what grit sandpaper were you using on the frets?
"I think its a community.I think that's what i've created".....No Master Overlord!! It is a CULT!!! ;-)
Dave - rather than linseed oil, have you heard of Fret Doctor for rosewood fretboards?
Your pal Glenn
***** How do I find your address, Dave? I'd love to send you a bottle cause I love your work!
What do you charge for a tune-up like this?
sorry if this has been asked or answered, what grit paper do you use to polish the frets?
Shouldn't anyone be worried about the perpendicular stress being applied to the neck when you (Dave) press down on it while polishing the frets? Additionally, isn't that placement (elevated headstock rest) stressing the body-neck joint of the guitar?
But that's a different scenario entirely..
Anyway, I find your vids great and educational man, thanks for sharing your work!
No need to go to StuMac for the fret board protector go to a art store and buy a eraser shield.
Your hate for stew mac amuses me lol

woodeso should see this
6:00 haha you legend
get them from a drafting supply place. i think you know that
I found your name from a wikipedia of your band, then I googled your name and found a page with all the movies you've worked on. It looks like you've worked on tons of big movies, how did you get into that?
***** Wow, I saw that comment exactly somewhere else. I saw you did Robocop, I loved that movie.
i got google+ but not facecrack but the other truth i have found is you feel as young as you are active so i bet your doing better than others your age, you look like a busy guy. Arthritis is really irritating as hell though.

Getting old may be a number, but getting sore and cranky is a symptom. I know.
Screw and saddle direction are interchangeable ... isn't that the great thing about the ABR-1? If you need a 64th to get a string to intonate, what would these anal retentives do? Flip the two-cent saddle or tell the customer he needs a whole new bridge? Holy cripes.
all guitar dudes should be bass players, bass players take no guitar player shit ,,,,,Dave ,phil lynott, lemmy and john entwistle i rest my case
Ewww, I like that one. Didn't know Gibson made a 333, never seen one before. The things you learn at Dave's World....
why didn't you use the strings the guy asked for?
The bass end is a bit too heavy for a 333. It can be accomplished but it requires a bit more maintenance
"age is just a number" who came up with that? some old dog ..trying to get a new trick(young chick).... that's my guess
That finger board looked bone dry.
