Bassist John Deacon wrote this funky amazing song! He was the member of the band who liked funk and Motown, as did Freddie. Matter of fact, John was so shy and was afraid to contribute in the song writing and it was Freddie who encouraged him to write songs. When he did, he wrote song huge ones.

Even when he’s singing to 70,000 people he makes each of them feel as if he’s singing directly to them. The Wembley concert had approximately 75,000 fans in attendance.

The Wembley Stadium held about 72,000 people. Can you only imagine being there!! You’ll need to watch Queen play for the 300,000 in Rio!

This is the band that STARTED crowd interaction. They were the 1st that brought the crowd "into" the gig & made them part of the show. No body did it before them.

Written by bass player John Deacon. Michael Jackson who was friends with Freddie Mercury talked them into releasing it as a single and it became one of rheir best hits.

I was a teenage in the 70's and Queen was a huge part of my youth. It's sad that he died in 1991, such a sad day that was. I wonder what he would have thought of hip-hop and rap music if he only could have survived aids, but those early day there wasn't the advantage of medication that are available today. R.I.P. Freddie, and long live Queen. Plus this was back when nobody had cell phones, so they were just living in the moment and the band could see people, not the backs of thousands of cell phones.

I was at this concert, this was the Saturday performance. I think most of the footage seen on YT taken from the Wembley Magic Tour was Saturdays performance. So lucky to have experienced it. Best gig I’ve been to. Queen could do it all, great songs, a total commitment to putting on a show. And with Freddie M as your front man how could you fail. In a flick of a switch they could go from tender balladry to balls out power, such was their dynamic range, personified by the great man himself.

Hey, I always enjoy your Queen reactions; Freddie’s high energy, crowd-engaging performances are always fun to watch and are a great display of his showmanship. But you should also see a performance on the other side, one that’s pure vocal power- check out Who Wants to Live Forever from Wembley, and you’ll see how he can command a stage simply standing still.

Dude you can SING ! and play (those harmonies ! damn !!!). meant to comment on the previous video about that... Can't wait to hear more of your stuff. As far as Freddie's interaction with the crowd - you're right on the money, only the video that best shows it is "under pressure" from this same show at Wembley. Please react to it... And one more thing - your favorite part of this song is exactly my favorite part :)

John Deacon. the bass player, wrote the song. Brian and Roger were really against putting this song on the album, they thought it was too funk. Michael Jackson heard the demo and told Freddie (Freddie and Michael had become good friends from when Queen toured America) that they had to record this and release it. By the way, the way Freddie is singing at this concert, can you tell that Aretha was Freddie's favorite singer? Freddie always wished that he and Aretha had recorded Somebody to Love as a duet.
However, Freddie thought that Montserrat Caballe had the most beautiful voice that he had ever heard. Montserrat was a soprano opera singer. She and Freddie recorded an album together, Barcelona. Here's a demo of Freddie that he sent to Montserrat fer her reaction to the song. Freddie's doing both his part and Montserrat's. Freddie's, Montserrat part/voice was so pure on this demo.

Surprising is the fact that on the studio version of the song the rhythmic guitar, that you like so much, is played by John Deacon (bass player), not Brian! Brian once confessed in an interview that it was always a hard part to play for him at concerts.
Hey, why don't you react to Freddie's vocal improvisation at the Milton Keynes concert and exceptional rendition of 'Somebody to Love' from there as well? ;)
    I really enjoy your reactions!

Good reaction. The only other time Roger Taylor got the notice he deserved (on the performance of "Somebody to Love") was from an opera singer/ music teacher. As a singer, you would find her comments useful.
I also appreciate that you take notice of the band's playing. Their jamming on this is worthy of an award in itself.
Next time, take notice of the lyrics. They are very interesting and enriched the song for me.

The bassist John Deacon wrote the song and played the bass (obviously), guitars, hand claps and drums or at least told Roger what he wanted.

Michael Jackson was the one who convinced them to release this as a single. They were going to put it on an album but Michael told them it would be a big hit & they listened.

Fwiw, make sure it's a cover of the live version from "live killers". I think it makes it an entirely different and even more awesome song than the album version.

A possible suggestion - well maybe 3 in a row, how about start with Queen - 'Princes of the Universe', then 'A Kind of Magic', followed by 'Who Wants to Live Forever' and see if you can tell which movies and tv series they belong to.

Yes, it’s Roger’s vocals your hearing. He has a higher voice than Freddie had, so during the live shows he took over a lot of the high parts that would have been difficult for Freddie to do live when he had a whole two hours of singing to do. Roger’s voice is also very distinctive in its raspiness. Very sexy to us ladies. 😉
