Excellent and clear explanation. However I feel that 0.8mm is too small an adjustment. Another reference from a person using old Bullet manual (Paul Henshaw - youtuber) shows that the original manual states around 8-11 mm. If this is to adjust for colder ambient then it seems counterintuitive. Request to please verify and advise. Thanks
Great desi jugad however a very bad idea. The attached plastic end tip can very easily fall inside resulting in very costly repair work. Remember Murphy's law. It will happen when you least expect it. There are plenty of other safer means to find TDC. I would just simply sacrifice the gauge and weld a metal piece to the end. Instructions on how to find TDC are very good. I have a 1999 std 500 - 4 speed. I am learning from you and others every day about bike maintenance. Take care. Thank you.
how you remove cam gear backlash ? to remove cam gear backlash rotate wheel backward to 3 full rotation of needle and than rotate wheel forward to 2.2 rotation 3-2.2 = .8 mm so that there will be no backlash affect in timing setting
Sir, I'm afraid you made one error. When finding .8mm before top dead centre you must always approach it from earlier in the cycle NOT fall back to it from TDC. You should rotate the engine backwards til you are at least to BDC then approach it again from that direction! This is to remove any backlash from the timing gears. I hope I have made myself clear? Thankyou.
@@ECFixeljin Maybe when new perhaps but on older engines they do wear, that is why it is possible to buy eccentric gear pinnions to take up the wear. and stop gear noise.
The ignition coil get charged when point is closed and spark get produced at spark plug when point get opened. So it's better to set the point when light get off.
The point is a part of the ignition system, the point tells when the spark plug has to fire to achieve perfect engine firing. For RE CI engine the fire should be done exactly .8 mm before TDC during compression stroke to get a perfect combustion. To be honest setting point a .8mm prior to TDC is a real difficult process but EC Fix done it with a help of dial gauge which is a good method. Hope you clarified now.

*Brother, Can you please clear my doubt *...? I am trying to make 0.8mm timing advancing on my bullet. Can I use the amp meter deflections to do this... When the circuit is closed it will show in red. Right??? While I am doing this in my bike, with a screw driver i found exact 0.8mm position. But the problem is when I turn the point assembly to find out the switching point, all the time the circuit is opened between that adjusting slot. Do I need to remove the timing cover to fix this problem or is there any other ideas... Please clarify... I am eagerly waiting for your response
It is common problem in Old RE.... If you change metal gasket, it will leak again after few months.... Let it be leaking, don't take tension, take cotton cloth and clean the leaking oil twice a week.....It is one and only one easy solution....

thats not quite right the spark plug is at 45 deg so the reading may well be wrong a better idea may be to use the valve lifter with will give a vertical and more accurate measurement but as i dont speak indian you may well be saying that
You could calculate the correct value considering the angle of the spark plug. With 30° of the spark plug it would be 0,92. But the piston isn't flat. It means also with that re-adjusted value you will not exactly reach 0.8...but it's ok and within allowed tolerances...Royal Enfield isn't rocket science

The timing gear normally have very very small play which doesn't affect this timing setting as this play makes a deviation of around 0.01mm.

my cast iron point is not coming in center...its always in minus (-) what to do ?
Some ammeter have calibration issues, if you have a small deflection in the ammeter then it's ok.
The plug opening is onder 45 degrees, so you have to calculate what .8mm on the dial will be.
That's a good question. As that of the spark plug there is a slope in the piston also so there will be no issue.
