Hey - one question - As far as I understand the 12Volt power socket is not powered 24/7 in this Audi (i.e. it will cut power if ignition is off). If I want my camera to receive power 24/7 that would not do the trick - right ? Thanks
I was really proud of myself, got the writing all behind the dash etc....I've followed your instructions but the camera is getting no power. Tried a different wiring set, same issue. The camera charges if i plug it into the usb - and the 12V is powered when i do the piggy back fuse. Is there somewhere else to earth it to?
Hmm not sure as I no longer have the car but the easiest way to check if it is indeed the earth causing the issue is to run another cable from the battery and touch it to the earth clamp. Sometimes you can also tap it on the bolts near the door hinge to check it's working. Obviously you'll need to find a more permanent fix but this will rule out whether the earth is causing the issue.
@@dawnw2138 glad it helped! Really strange the same earth point as what I've shown in the video doesn't seem to be working for you. Might need sand that area back to metal potentially to get a good connection
Nice video, thanks. I just wanted to add that by putting a piece of black vinyl between the 3m sticky pad and the glass will make it much easier (and cleaner) to remove the camera mount and prevent leaving any residue on the glass, should you ever need to.
I installed a BlackVue dashcam on my S3 (8Y), wired it down the passenger side and connected to the diagnostics port with an adaptor from Halfords. Works a charm.
@@CRD90 Yes, it records for around 2 days when parked. The adaptor has a battery protection circuit which shuts off power when it drops below a certain level. I drive every day so it records 24/7
Thanks for the nice video, really helpful! From what I understand, the camera will be off when the ignition is off even though you plugged it in the 12V fuse? I was hoping to find a solution to keep it powered to record with a "parking option" record whenever your car is hit (when being parked). Any clue on how to get it?
Thanks bud, you'll have to simply find a fuse that has permanent live rather than ignition switched. I've no longer got the car so haven't got access to the manual. But there were a few different ones listed in there and some of the Audi forums might have some info on which is the best fuse to select.
Hey Auzam quistion when u had your a3 did u have the Google satellite view?here in the netherlands when i asked audi dealer they said they stop the collaboration with Google but online i see them in other audis
Hey bud, on my car I didn't have it either. There was a satellite view which was decent, but the maps were not by Google. I too heard their agreement expired in 2020 which would explain it, also a lot of people with the older models have now lost that view.
I've got an aukey set up similar to this. Hardwired, but it doesn't work..I bought the car with aukey already installed. Its on an audi a3 8p. How do I check what's wrong with it?
I got it from Amazon UK. I've just fitted a better one to an Audi A3 - no wires on show, make sure to subscribe as the video should be released in a week or so. Worth waiting for that one I even have a discount code 👍
I know it’s not strictly relevant to this video, but do you think the driver assistance pack is worth the money? I just ordered an edition 1 but can’t decide if I want to add it in.
If you can stretch to it then 100% worth it. We were fortunate enough to get the the feature on the vorsprung after initially passing on it with our edition 1. Now I couldn't live without it. Have you seen our video on it? It does some really cool stuff! th-cam.com/video/24OeueCFY5o/w-d-xo.html
i am not an expert at all, but thanks to this tutorial i managed to install the dashcam on my a3 8y, but with the 12 volt adapter. I would have a problem. I bought the hardware kit too, but the fuse box is located under the steering wheel, not on the passenger side, I wanted to ask you where I could place that piece and all the wiring, thanks
@@g3nny91 unfortunately I've no longer got the car, but I remember on my driver side there was an additional storage compartment. Even if your car does not have that it may be hollow behind there and a good void to tuck the cables behind.

Nice job, looks just like how i did my first car 😂 But the way i did it on my A3 the cable is hidden from start to finish, i'll share a few tips on the audi forum soon. It's funny actually, i thought about that black vinyl too, but had to keep the original grey sticky pad as i didn't have any...
@@CRD90 actually it does depend on the brand. Originally my blackvue camera came with a black one, but that was obviously in my previous car, so when i took it off i had to order a new pad (this grey one is normally used for gopro cam's). Not sure if the yellow fuse went into the correct slot. Watching another video, the fuse you pull out from the fuse panel goes into the bottom slot. The top slot i.e the one by the wire is the load. The load fuse should be lower than the fuse you pulled out from the panel in the bottom slot.....here's the video explaining it all at 6 mins 30 seconds. th-cam.com/video/8b9CvUMcNQo/w-d-xo.html
A badger is correct my cam has a 2a fuse which I put in the slot as in your video ,it blew when I put a tyre pump in the cigarette lighter. 20a fuse should go in the slot nearest the spades and the 2a fuse for the auxiliary supply at the top of the piggyback fitting
With my ohmeter, I tested the 2 Fuse slots: - Fuse Slot-1 : near the 2 extermal connectors, the internal conncetors are both linked. - Fuse Slot-2 : At the extremity, only one internal conncetor is linked the extermal connector. . The second internal conncetor is linked to the external red cable. >> So Yes, i think the both fuses are inverted in this video. Neverthless, thanks for the Video.
Of all the crap gimmicks and ‘safety’ features that are supplied with the A3 that i never use or have to switch off, why cant audi provision for installation of a dash cam by designing a power socket in a convenient location?
Also, even if you do shell out the £700 for the Audi Dashcam it still has an additional wiring loom that shows below the headlining making it look like an afterthought any way!!
@@audidryvera3503 hey Paul, this is 100% the reason we did not spec it. I would have loved for it all to be built in and hidden. Correct, you would have to look for a permanently live fuse and piggy back from that
Do you know which one it is?
Wouldn't routing the wires that way interfere with the airbag?
Yea just pop the A pillar and run the wire behind the air bag
