The funeral and everything surrounding it was done magnificently well. It showcased the history of Britain and its monarchy and allowed people to get nostalgic about a bygone era. This will of course be followed up by the coronation. But despite what I said above, the monarchy is pretty much finished and there will be no more appetite for more kings and more funerals and coronations.

Another stately, profoundly moving procession. The British ability to carry off this sort of public ceremonial (pomp seems like the wrong word, because it's far, far more than a showy parade) is unmatched anywhere in the world. I think especially of those eight Guardsmen who carry the coffin and of the sailors of the Royal Navy who pull the gun carriage - ordinary members of the armed forces who are elevated to the public eye in such a moving and somber fashion. So much credit is due to the people who planned and carried out this extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime ceremony.

So many see monarchs and only think of power and prestige. They see the trappings, the scepters, the crowns, the respect given to said monarchs. They see the perks, the wealth, the jewels, the clothes, the toys.
They do not see the burdens. They do not see the crushing weight of so many people's hopes and dreams focused on focused on one or two beings. They do not see the targets that are brightly painted on the backs of anyone called a monarch in this day and age by MANY people for as many reasons. They do not see the weight of tradition that smothers and chokes. They do not know the angst of trying to live up to a standard that is almost impossible to meet.
Then, maybe once in a lifetime, you see something like this. Queen Elizabeth was hardly perfect, and she would have been the first to say so. My Grandfather met her and that was what he said about her. "not perfect, but a good woman and a good leader'. High praise from a WWII vet and 4 star general. She was a great queen and one I would have been proud to serve her even as an American. Better her or Charles than MANY who claim leadership roles in the US these days, because Elizabeth understood and her son understands the word 'responsibility'. A word that had been all but forgotten in the name of madness and greed in the US.
I cried when I watched this. Both for the UK 'and' for the US. God help us all, because without such truly noble guiding lights as Queen Elizabeth II, I fear for us all in the days to come.
RIP Elizabeth II, noble queen, good leader and decent human being. You are missed by many.

For so many times we can't even imagine Her Majesty has passed through that arch, either leaving Buckingham Palace or arriving at it. She got there inside a carriage on the day of her coronation, and so often left grandiose mounting a horse and wearing a uniform to command Trooping the Colour. She leaves, now, for the last time, exhibiting the same dignity that so marked her life, somewhat further gracefully sealing the end of her glorious reign.

I watched the pre recorded broadcast in the USA of her coronation on a small screen B&W TV when I was eight years old in 1953. The film was flown over the Atlantic Ocean within hours of the event.
It was awesomely inspiring for me, even at that young age.....
Now, in my 80th year, I am terribly sad at her passing.
She was a gracious lady who earned the respect of all the nations .....
    Rest In Peace

The way the Queen's Guard replicated Mendelssohn's Funeral March is just majestic. If there is a theme that sum's up the British royal history and heritage, this is it.
Please if someone has this exact version in HD, do share.

Since Elizabeth II died, there has been much publicity, not so much thought about why she matters. The monarchy shouldn't be used as real-life soap opera, nor as mere material to fill newspapers. Why is monarchy helpful ? In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important one. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace".
Of course Elizabeth II & Prince Philip had their failings as parents; King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the service they give, and for the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in the UK & the world. The sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war in the 1860s, and the UK could have suffered civil war over slavery in the 19th century, or over world war, economic failure or loss of empire in the 20th. There will always be violence and political problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability British monarchs are for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth (e.g. Canada & Australia) and for the world. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III.
