Thanks for covering this. Myself, I currently don't have maximum fan setting with that Climate Control Unit of my 1990 Dodge. Since it's a different part of the fan circuit, I'm going to try to repair the switch itself, since if I play with it, I can get it to work, a little. If I have to pull the unit, HOPEFULLY I won't have to pull the stereo: It's the newer generation of digital-only stereos - no DVD drive, etc., and only sticks into the dash about two inches.
@@decentgarage I'm not worried about pulling it. Now you'll have an extra one hanging around in case you need it. I want to see this stuff get put to good use.
GREAT content as always! I have learned more about my old Dodge watching your channel than I have the last 4 years of owning it. Keep recording EVERYTHING you do to them. Even beginner level stuff like brake pads, spark plug wires, etc. Selfishly, what about a BB hood and cowl swap? I have a MINT one sitting in the garage that I have not mustered up the courage to tackle yet. lol
Most of the time when these trucks have this problem is from the vacuum line junction. The rubber rectangular piece under the dash where all the lines plug into and out of. They dry rot and come apart. Look for that piece. I have had this problem and have had to swap and or join the lines together directly
Hey, Tim great video! I just replaced my control and everything works now, Thanks for another great video. let me know if you ever do a video on how to replace the heater box
I don't plan on doing a video on that unless I absolute have to. There is a great write up on cummins forum on how to do it without removing the dash. It has great pictures and step by step explanations. Just take you time and go step by step
Would you have a part number for the light bulb on the heater control/hvac back light? My truck just has a hole in the back where a light would go. Not sure if it’s just a twist in bulb replenishment bulb or if I should be looking for a wire and light behind the dash like the 4wd indicator light.
I remember using this vid when my unit broke. Now I have a problem with the resistor. I have a replacement but the screws only turn and won't come out. Any suggestions? I'm all ears! Thanks!
Another great informational video, I like learning new things about these trucks! It is always nice to have a "control" around. Word of the day "reamed out"....🤣
Yeah, when I was editing and heard myself use the term "control" I realized most people wouldn't know what that term meant in this context haha. And yes, the hole was reamed out 😂
I had actually been working on my dissertation proposal that morning so I was in that mindset 😂. Nothing better than working in the garage instead of working on that stuff though
Under neath the glove box is a small yellow wire where does that go? Seen yours went from one part of the wiring harness towards the left side of the glove box into a plug near the right side. What does yellow wire do?
Hey man your videos are of immense tips for me and my W350 automatic first gen, that being said do you know of any transmission kick down cable for sale there in Utah? I’m in Denver Co. any reply would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for the great videos!
Hey mark, i just saw your post on Facebook from your gfs acct. O don't k ow of any off hand but could ask around. You should join. The 1st gen cummins (89-93) group o. Facebook. It's the best group with over 50k members.
I noticed that you have two keys on your key ring. One is for unlocking and locking the doors and one is for actually starting the truck, if I am correct. Is this the same for your truck. My black key won’t start my truck, I have to use the other one. And the other key won’t unlock my doors. It seems that your setup might be opposite though. Just curious.
Sounds like the ignition key assy on the column was replaced. It comes with new keys when you buy it. I've already had to replace mine twice. Short of having the new assy keyed at a locksmith, you'll have different keys for the truck. One to start it and one for the doors.
Tim I’ve been watching your videos recently….I have a standard cab I’ve been looking for those seats for…..I have a set of leather shoulder belt 1998 seats. Shoulder belt, manual w/seat heat (Road comfort) not sure if you’re interested in them or not…
Hey Decent Garage, great video! I'm wondering if the HVAC control center routing is the same for an 86 Ramcharger?? I'm having a similar issue and I believe this video helps!
Just a little off topic. I have a 93 W250 and I am searching for the Cruise Control switches. I have the exact style that are in the Prospector Bob. My Resume button no longer works. If someone has a set that they are willing to sell please comment to make arrangements. Thanks for a great video Decent.
I haven't looked too much in to that but I know the motor is a 97 and the wiring harness is a 92 so I think it may have to do with that. I'll check it out more in depth at some point 🤣
I've got this issue with my truck not idling until it warms up? 91.5 intercooled...I have the same sensors , I've replaced all of them... Runs fine when warm? Weird!
So I've done everything to mine to get my controls to work, I've got a new control part, I tried messing with the vacuum line under the hood and I check the lines under the dash. No matter what I've done I still have no change. The controls are stuck on defrost/feet I just got this truck and I'm getting lost. Any tips or advice that may have not been mentioned in this video??
Hi! Love the videos! I got a question for ya, my heater in my 90 d350 doesn’t get burning hot. Some people said maybe the heater valve? But I might try and flush out the heater core and see if that helps any. As of now my heater only gets warm and mildly hot when the engine is 100% warmed up. What do you think? Thanks man! Keep up the awesome videos!!
I got the same problem with my 89. I taken out the core flushed it Booth ways until I got all the junk out. Its better but still not hot! I'm going to pull the line close to the water pump and have a look to make sure its not plugged. After that I dont have a clue.
Andrew and 2eyed Jack, My first step would be to make sure the thermostat is in working properly. Factory cummins thermostats open at 180*. If it is stuck open you will never get the coolant temp up hot enough for the heater to really get hot. I went with a thermostat that opens at 195* because I wanted my heater to work even better when I lived in Alaska. Have you both checked your thermostats. The easiest way to check is to pull it out and literally put it in a pot of water. Heat up the water and thermostat should open when the water gets to 180*.
I have a 92 the fan doesn't work( new)I just replace the a/c compressor none of them work I check all the fuses(new ignition switch) and It's Hot Here in Texas
Jim lane has a great write up on cumminsforum on putting the blower motor on a relay and it makes a huge difference. I haven't done it yet but someday I will.
@@decentgarage Crossing my fingers for you. Hopefully they dont find their way into the other systems fed by vacuum. If that booster fails, One thing you may want to consider as an upgrade is the hydroboost braking system from a ~97 cummins truck.

Oh boy, what color?!
Very helpful video for the vacuum setup. That brake booster is original to the truck. A 97 would have hydroboost brakes.
That's true. Hadn't thought of that.
By chance you would not have a source for a new brake booster check valve for a 1992 W250? Believe it is part number 4485491 but not 100 percent sure.
Hey Decent Garage, great video! I'm wondering if the HVAC control center routing is the same for an 86 Ramcharger?? I'm having a similar issue and I believe this video helps!

Nice fix ill have to rember that one, and a question on the seats. Are they a straight swap? Or is theres mods to make it fit?
Not a straight swap. I just released a video on them though. Go check that out.
Do the 94 seats bolt in or did you have to modify it
They are actually Durango seats. I built custom brackets for them. I have videos on how i did it.
