Anderson has not put style over substance! His films are exceedingly full of deeper meaning. I've watched the Royal Tenenbaums many many times. And continually find new layers I have not noticed before.
Not bad, man. Not bad. Keep working on it. Yea, the people who complain about Andersons "quirky" style...they are the moviegoers that want to shut their brains off for 90+ mins and be not spoon fed but shoveled the same old stories told the same old way before Hollywood moved to talkies! Not only do Anderson movies visual please and engage the mind, you can watch a movie multiple times and find something new.... but he always captures the tragedy that is our existence. Thing don't always go the way we want them. People die. We fail. If we're lucky, we pick ourselves up, find a reason to keep going and then do it all over again until the next gut punch. Happy endings in real life are just stories that haven't really ended yet. No one lives happily ever after. If we're lucky, we're happy sometimes and then we freaking die! And, we all die alone in the end. Life is bloody hard. But, it's the hard that makes it so wonderful! Anderson gets this and finds interesting, colorful, musical and even inspiring ways to reflect this honest. His attention to detail, vision and the fact that he gets the absolutely best performances from not only the actors but the crew as well is what makes him and incredibly good director. Something that has become more and more rare!
Basically Anderson portrays how Europe looked from the 50s-80s combined with the stories of American families, both of which have changed dramatically in the past few years for one reason or another.
You've missed so many opportunities to have a perfect Andersonian shot in this by not centring the presenter or set features enough, like e.g. the visually dominant corner piece of the handrail in the opening shot. You were getting there and definitely paid attention to framing trying to imitate his style, which was a great idea, but you've missed it by an inch or so almost each time! Such a shame, because overall, this is a really good video! Well done, nonetheless :)
