Do you think the trues on the weapon are worth going for? Most of them are inconsistent anyway, but I know all of them. But mainly it’s just if I see a hard punish opportunity. Even then I still think why line up the exact spacing when I could just hit them w a sig or weapon throw combo idk Also good guide, Imma use dodge after grounded attacks more. normally I just dash, jump or do another attack. I’ll also try to abuse gs weapon throws in neutral. I’m normally a bit scared to do that on stage because it feels quite risky. Atm I like throwing them up defensively or down to protect landings but that’s it really. Only like throwing angles that are easy to pick up… The one thing I don’t like about the weapon throw is it feels like it has no force off stage. Aside from the tech in the short, I knew the rest of the guide. But I have been a Magyar one trick since April, and I’m 1900. I know how the weapon works, I’m just really bad at the game 😢
Hey man, u should do more weapon guides assuming u know how to use other weapons lol but if so man it would be appreciated real chill and get straight to the point and I like how u cover lights as well
Would like to add something that I like to call the "greatsword free plat strat": Basically, most golds and low plats always either dodge in or neutral, and dlight sets up really easily to get a 5 hit combo if you read those dodges. Simply dlight (or grounded dair), cd forward, and either do instant reverse slight to catch dodge in or delay reverse slight to catch spot dodge. Gives you an easy 5 hit with minimal effort, and tends to break the mental instantly. If you can't land a dlight because your opponent is jumping, spam airials, particularly nair and recovery. This tends to force players to the ground where you can set the combo up. This strat was honestly all I needed to hit 1700, past that you may need to actually think.
No question just want to say the most helpful guide ever. I’m a greatsword main and I think it’s really fun and this was super helpful to up my game. Awesome guide!
Although I think you might’ve missed the only 3 hit true combo left in the game: slight dlight dlight. The dlight bridge to dlight finisher can be consistently hit true but the slight to bridge is really inconsistent
@@tempestthegoat i do think the slight to bridge dlight is inconsistent but not that big of deal, because usually i get like 1-2 dodge frames max on the said slight dlight dlight true combo
After playing a ton of FGs myself, its honestly cool to see that not only do you also play FGs (Strive) but you apply gameplans from FGs into Brawlhalla, and that's really cool to me. Really changes the mindset on how to think of Brawlhalla and GS being the most 'fighting game' weapon; having to condition them to dodge instead of wakeup on hit and reading their options after certain moves and stuff like that helps a ton. Thanks for the vid :)
I’ve been playing gs for forever, and I find chase dodging behind and s-lighting catches neutral dodges really well. And it allows you to get the full 5 hit combo off without getting off stage
How would you put gs in terms of matchups? (Like which weapons do you think suffer the most agains it and which have an easier time overall) Thx for the guide!
Mfw hardy doesn’t mention dair nair true combo kill confirm on gs at 180-230 ranges and gc dlight for wakeup. Anyways this is without a doubt the best greatsword guide right now since it is like the only guide right now that supports properly playing the weapon. I have mained this weapon since its first release until now and you basically cover almost all of the things I have learned for so long in this short video. For all of you who is trying to main this weapon, I highly recommend you do it since the weapon is very fun in general and good luck. Also slight bridge into slight finisher is actually true and I think doing slight bridge of the ledge can be a good edgeguard option for a surprise nlight or dlight finisher. Another thing to note is that reading a gc with slight will literally give you the advantage to freely unleash a 5 piece combo (slight - nlight bridge - dash - nlight - dlight - slight/nlight finisher). If you run out of stage to combo with nlight, I highly recommend you to just do nlight nlight without going for the 3 piece
@@gengarisnotinsmash... You are right but the window is way less tight, getting finisher combo is more effective, and slight slight won’t drop and unjumpable unlike slight dlight bridge
wanted to add here that dlight slight out of slight is a consistent true combo, but slight dlight is jumpable and since greatsword starters are really hard to react to on hit, this is a pretty good combo
Hey, I'm currently trying to do the chase dodge reverse nlight after the slight for the dodge in reads. However, i just can't turn around release all inputs and then input a nlight at such speed. Any tips?
HardyMJ , Which Greatsword legend do you think has the best Greatsword : Jaeyun , Magyar or Mako? And I have a question : what stance should you use on Mako ? Defence stance or dex stance cause I know u can’t get slight dlight true with 4 dex and if I choose dex stance , then I have 4 defense. I kinda struggle in Ranked with these stats in the current meta , and idk what to choose (mako)
I know this is super late, but can you put the combo order for each of the 3 important combos at least? this helps for being able to compartmentalize what to do when and lowers the odds of learning the combo incorrectly
This weapon is really hard can u make a video were u Analyse ur game play and why did u go for that and how do u deal with some people because sometimes i feel u can't get anything with great sword.
I have a question. Do you have specific tips for playing GS against aggresive bow and passive lance? (esp. bow) Everytime I play one or the other I slip into parrying playstyle since I'm not sure how to approach them without being punished.
Bait them with aerials thinking they can punish, constantly enter in their "safe zone" and get out (but mixup the way that you enter, dont just dash in and out because they will notice and punish, try to dash and Jump backdodge etc... And them dair in their safe zone)... Some people also spot dodge after you enter in their "safe zone"
bow and lance are really hard for gs u have to use stage control really well and for bow punish what there covering there whiff with alot of the time for example if there jumping off of a whiff punish the jump on certain moves that are unpunishable
Lance and bow are easily the worst matchup for greatsword and I absolutely suck against it. My strategy is to just play passive and wait for them to approach, then punish. If they also play passive, rush them down.
Did you have a specific reason why you didn't go over dair nair being a true kill combo at later percents, it's great having at least 1 true combo to finish those stocks when they don't want to die
nlight dash nlight is soo hard because you have to move your middle finger from d to e so quickly and accurately. It makes me want to change shift to aim up
I'd recommend having W be aim up with space as jump, I personally play with dodge on shift and it makes it really convenient since everything important is on a different finger.
Hey in case you're still reading comments on this, I took it into a training lobby and I was having a lot of trouble trying to input an nlight-dash-nlight, or an slight-dash-nlight because for some reason the dash boosts me too far in front of the opponent and it makes me miss, am I doing something wrong with the input, can I get a bit of help? Thanks.
uh so nlight dash nlight will have a little bit of cooldown before you can do the nlight again but for slight dash nlight you can also chase dodge either one works but u just gotta input that faster. TBH if they are dodging a non upwards way u can do nlight dash slight instead.
@@HardyMJ I probably forgot to mention but like, the most trouble I'm having with the nlight-dash-nlight is in the 5 hit string, so like when it goes from nlight bridge, dash, nlight starter. I was just wondering if it's literally just me not inputting fast enough or I'm screwing up the inputs themselves.

I personally think it's Jaeyun, with Magyar being the worst. Not saying he's actually bad, I main Magyar, he's just not as good as Jaeyun or Mako.
Honestly with Arcadia coming out now I think she's one of the best gs legends. Both her dsigs are great for saving your partner in ranked, since it cancels the previous knockback, and her spear nsig's hitbox starts on the ground. Just like old Ada. If you get the charging just right, you can release as soon as the alt animation starts. That makes for around 0.7s. It's great for her gs ssig since the charged one shoots a decently big projectile. Most high gold/low plat players have a hard time dodging it.
theres a few ways ill just let you know so, if u can hit a nair go for it if not u can throw ur weapon up and recover unarmed. theres some gimmicky stuff like using exhausted recovery as well but its really hard to recover with gs because it has slow sair and a slow recovery.
@@catillac4318 gp is a niche edgeguarding tool since it’s super slow and the worst gp in the game. It’s good when the opponent is out of options and/or has no dodge. Don’t bother using it in neutral, you’ll practically never get value out of it
