This video is without a doubt, the most challenging clip I've had to do. I went north of LA a couple hours to film a Game DogThe American pit bull terrier possesses the ultimate combination of strength, agility, and endurance of any dog breed.. This video goes beyond the gratuitous clips you'll see on Worldstar and really gets to the truth of this exceptional dog athlete.

I was in the dog game back 40 years ago . I saw a catch weight match (does not matter what your dog weighs , usually 60 lbs plus ) where one dog was 56 lbs , in perfect condition , and the other was carrying too much weight and weighed in at 68 lbs . The bigger one was way stronger for 20 min. , thrashing the 56 pounder and then could not breathe for shit at the 20 min mark , the 56 pound dog took control and the bigger one quit at 30 minutes . the 68 pounder would have needed to be about 58 to 60 max , but a game dog would not have quit , even being tired and out of breath . The 56 pounder was about 63 pounds on the chain , not fat but not in condition either . I also know that burton's Gr Ch Hank was in the mid to high 50's in condition , also Gr Ch Dendy was matched at 55 lbs I believe . larger than 65 lbs was not very common back then . The last statement this guy said was a little off , That a pitbull can do anything better than any other dog and whip him . I would say they can be trained to do what a lot of dogs can do but not better than any breed for sure . Too many breeds out there with specific builds , noses, instincts , etc . to say such a thing , a greyhound is going to be faster than the fastest pitbull , a bloodhound has better scent tracking , etc etc .

There are numerous breeds that will destroy a pittie in a fight...but they are not bred to fight...thusly significantly less attacks and maulings from those breeds. I love dogs of all breeds and it saddens me that in the not to distant future there will be legislation fully banning the breed....and that will be a shame...but brought about by breeders like that.

Certain bloodlines still impressive physically and mentally compared to 99% of breeds, but a quarter of the stress and work. Smaller, can be well conditioned, I don't need to be hyper focused when we're outside, I can have and work them together, I can trust them with most other animals, etc. Hope to get back into them someday when I got more time and can get out the city, but honestly enjoy these guys.

A friends older brother fought pits back in the 80's and 90's. I recall him stopping by and to my untrained eye it looked like a pup just over 40 lbs. I ignorantly believed the bigger the better but he broke it down to me pretty much as this dude did. Those big pits tire out quickly and lack the agility needed in a fight which he explained carry on for longer than most people think. I remember him calling it a "pit fighter" almost as a breed itself but not quite.

    • @supersmashbrosmii9639
      @supersmashbrosmii9639 7 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Vlogs en Technicolor Darrell Calhoun I would agree that this sport needs to be legal. Dog fighting was considered a really clean sport back in the 1900's. I respect all dog fighters from the olden days cause they produced the best, drive, aggressive and athletic Pitbull terriers. The media is what that makes this sport bad. They look at bad people who are in the sport and make it seem 99% of dog fighters treat their dogs like that.
Just like every sport, cruelty is involved when bad people are involved.
Professional dog fighting didn't make dogs fight to the game and they weren't forced to fight you idiots! Firstly they test them as pups if they show aggressiveness towards each other. If the dog is simply too tired and doesn't want to fight in the middle of a match, the dog would duck his tail between its legs, run away or not do the "scratch" (come to the centre after a little break). So no, they aren't forced. However by standard, every American Pitbull Terrier is expected to fight and not cur out(quit). Other leagues also put max rounds like 10 rounds.
You see all these dumb ass Documentaries saying "They make dogs fight to the death", "They kill the dogs if they lose a match", "They give the Dog's drugs and specific foods to make them more aggressive" No they don't you stupid people. They don't do that shit. Only low life Street-level dog fighters do that shit.
And just like every Human, specific humans like some stuff and becomes natural. They're humans that like running, Parkour, combat, weight pulling, long jump, soccer and becomes natural to them. It's like a dog aswell. American Pitbull terriers love hunting and fighting. A Greyhound likes racing. A husky loves sledding, A German Shephard loves protection work. A blue heeler loves herding. A Jack Russell terrier loves hunting foxes. Each dog loves their original thing.

Thanks for the video. It gave a history and an eye into the mindset of the modern dogfighter.
We all know "game" can be tested in other ways. The dogs aren't useless without dogfighting. You can test a hog dog by how willing it is to catch and hold hogs. The public has no use for DA dogs these days.
I know you don't endorse this Zeke. I appreciate an athletic animal with drive. I also appreciate one with brains, and to some extent, being smart enough to have SOME sense of self preservation. That's just a normal mindset. The most brilliant and willing cattle dogs, be they curs, Catahoulas, or collie descendants, will watch themselves but you cannot call them cowards.

Ummm actually, game cannot be tested in other ways, not when it comes to bulldogs. You are right in that they're not useless without dogfighting. That's what they excel at, but they can also do other things.

this is one of your best interviews......this is a real dogman, talking real talk.....not these made up dog histories, you usually see.....you know people talking about how their dogs did this and that hundreds of years ago....the whole time the dog looks like its about to stroke out just standing there......i've seen these game bred dogs at work....they are the last of the real dogs left that can actually do what they were bred to do, even today......

I always walk my dogs at night to avoid other dogs and any potential problems for those retarded dog owners who just let their dog off the leash in public.

and keep corecting it and it wount, real ones are bred for hogs and bulls. its the retarded people that breed them dog agressive. game dog comes from hunting....as in big game...so yeah.its the retards like this that keep the breed bad in the eyes of the public. there are real pits, with all the pit treits here, and they can be trained to be non agressive to anything except hogs...

Thats why it's so hard for good people that love this particular breed that I call Staffordshire Terrier, because what people look for in you to find fault in your handling of this particular breed, is if it's aggressive or a fighter. When you do that. You are setting yourself up to be arrested after someone reports your activity. They have people out here that look for things of that nature. Me personally I like the breed as a pet. But that is why some groups are trying to ban people from owning one as a pet. If you take the time to teach them and train the dog, then you are doing yourself a big favor, by having to deal with someone that disagrees with you, when nine times out of ten they may have never owned one or had any experience with one personally.

The UKC is sitting on a lot of older and more accurate foundational pedigrees than are available through the ADBA. The UKC still may have copies of their older magazines for sale. Maybe up to the 60's or so. I at one time had a lot of them that were in the 40's/50's/60's etc. Had excellent articles written by many old time breeders like Earl Tudor/George Saddler/Corvino/Howard Heinzl/ Colby, etc. on breeding and conditioning tips.. I learned some great common sense tips on working a dog from those magazines. From Mr. Howard Teal's advice and one of Saddler's articles. I learned the value of proper hand walking a dog. How to properly build and use a round table. Great asset when bad weather sets in on you.
