I met LL Cool J in 1999/2000 at Ed Debevics in LA. He was with his whole family celebrating a birthday. We went over to him to take a picture and he invited us to sit down with him and talk. I kept apologizing because we didn't mean to bother him that much, but he was insistent and introduced us to his whole family. To this day, still the nicest celebrity I have ever met.
im the complete opposite. I met him and said hey Donatello I love your movies, you heard that new Mike Tyson & Canibus track and he just got angry at me and called me 'wack' whilst he read The Source, did up the laces on his 'Timbs', put on his Kangol Bucket Hat and recited the lyrics of the Salt N Pepa track he had playing out his boombox. And this was in 2011 :/
Baveshen Pillay not really roast, but introduce these new kids to what real Hip Hop is. What mutli syllable rhyming and writing lyrical verses actually means, instead of just making catchy phrases and poppy tunes
Mumble rapping & being lyrical aren't mutually exclusive. And you're tripping if you don't think LL made poppy tunes focused on catchy phrases. Mumble rap is just being scapegoated right now because it's the easiest target but in truth there's nothing wrong with mumbling the vocals, it's just an aesthetic choice to make the vocals unique. And plenty of artists like Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Kid Cudi, 50 Cent, Bone Thugs N Harmony, etc have been adored for decades whilst mumbling most of their tracks, it's just the new artists people have an issue with & lazily blame whoever mumbles rather than actually listening before hating on them
And it it's not even that fake Hip Hop is overused, it's just a childish term than i'd only expect someone below the age of 13 to use unironically. "i LiStEn tO RaPpErS wId BiG mUlTiS sO I kNoW ReEl hIp hOpP"
Being from the South and brought up on mix tapes of WBLS and albums from New York this is a tremendous fleet to accomplish with all the roots of Hip Hop. Jimmy Splicer, funky four plus one more, Treacherous 3, the list goes on and on! LL I truly Bless the new radio station! The Heritage of Hip Hop starts NOW!
LOVE seeing his passion here and yes!!! I met Grandmaster Caz and props to LL for telling this massive audience the truth about Caz being the man behind Rapper's Delight. Cheers for putting up the full video for this, his passion is contagious!
I have never met LL Cool J but have sang his song Mama Said Knock You Out Many Times I see him as a Great Rapper and Artist all around Not to mention Just a Good Person!!
SALUTE TO LL COOL J-HE HAS BENE IN THE GAME SINCE 1984 AND STILL FINDS WAYS TO STILL STAY RELEVANT FROM THE PAST TO THE PRESENT-HOLLIS TO HOLLYWOOD AND IT IS STILL ALL GOOD-GOD BLESS HIM.
One of the coolest and down to earth people you'd ever meet. Chris Light was a mentor of mine and I had the pleasure of meeting LL one time when we were in NY to meet with Chris and LL took some time to talk to us and drop knowledge and just bra real down to earth dude. Not to mention I used to hang with his daughter and she is fine as hell
L is an OG. Grew up listening to L and all them cats from the 80s and 90s back in the day. Those were legendary times. I wish I could go back and relive those days over and over again.
LL is the best person to create/host a shoe dedicated to providing a foundational Avenue that highlights what came before & its impact now. To give a truth history lesson of the roots of what hip hop was/is.
I'm loving this. It pisses me off that UK hip hop is now more lyrically impressive than American hip hop, America needs to drop all of the flashy bullshit and study the old ways.
Kaizer-Man There has to be a disparity and it's hard to define without the use of generalisation. You can argue my generalisation is wrong, not that I can't generalise.
I feel like he's a Hip-hop Professor & listening to this station would be like being a Grad Student - maybe this is what they mean by "taking someone to school" - I think I need to get through high school first
AVERY TATE be sure to check for the album when it drops.....goona try to remake and visit at least one song off every album....to show appreciation for his legacy.....look up my catalog....to see how i rock.....artist name K-BIRD....i had a deal with project pat now im going solo
Station sounds awesome, right up my alley. I'm 38, favorite artist is Nas. I need something that challenges my mind. A lot of the stuff thats out now, just doesn't do that. So I stick to my Nas, Pac, Biggie, Jay, Jadakiss, Joe Budden, people who actually make you think. Props to today's artists that keep that spirit alive though like Kendrick, Rapsody, Jean Grae, and others.
Theres lots of stations that do this already. They normally all go belly up because its only for small niche group of people. I go to lot of old school concerts these radio stations put on though and its cool that the OGs are still getting platform to shine a little bit.
Not really his big fan but have to admit he is one of the few old timers who started the real Hip Hop, there were no tupac biggie snoop dre or any he started back in late 70s early 80s as a kid, respect him for that !!!
Alec Burriss What? Are you serious? When he was Filming NCIS:Los Angeles He dropped his 14th Album he didn't have to but he did because he's passionate....
BOX5 BASTARD “yeah man that was the joke” LL’s been Hip Hop’s first household name MC since 1985. Nobody else has been at it longer than him. The joke was that whoever made this title stated the obvious
Cool J is an original great (OG) ..... today so many hip hop artists are just so bad... they don't understand the art, they just walk the image but they have lost the art that it started off as and turned it into a violent and unintelligible vocal disaster, modern artists needs to study the original greats and not just imitate what they see today, I see it going downhill fast unless a visionary like Cool J gets involved

HIP HOP IS a CULTURE. LIFESTYLE. Not just a music genre.
I really hope he'll roast these new mumble Rap and fake hip-hop on his radio station.
How would you do that?
Baveshen Pillay not really roast, but introduce these new kids to what real Hip Hop is. What mutli syllable rhyming and writing lyrical verses actually means, instead of just making catchy phrases and poppy tunes
The term fake hip-hop is overused :/ its not that its fake hiphop its just different to what it once was
Mumble rapping & being lyrical aren't mutually exclusive. And you're tripping if you don't think LL made poppy tunes focused on catchy phrases.

Can’t really generalise like that. There’s both lyrical and crap stuff from both sides of the pond
Kaizer-Man There has to be a disparity and it's hard to define without the use of generalisation. You can argue my generalisation is wrong, not that I can't generalise.
My first thought when I read the title was “well I would hope so......”

It’s a great station! Been listening for a few weeks.
It's only right that this guy coined the term "Greatest Of All Time," or G.O.A.T.
