I absolutely agree with him. Looking at homes in Paradise some survived because the fire department was positioned close by and some survived because of built-in sprinkler systems. One of them I looked at had the house sprinkled but the detached garage wasn't and the detached garage was gone. Two of my homes on acreage have the hundred foot defensible space but I doubt very much of a fire went through they'd survive. I'll be looking into putting sprinkler systems in.
If you had a pond or unlimited water source you would have to have enough fuel to run your pump for how long? So you get evacuated, leave your pump running, you don't know when or if the fire will reach your property so if you run out of fuel it won't take long for the heat to dry everything out. Maybe just stay and fight the fire yourself. Too many variables. Better to just have law enforcement, enforce existing defensive space set back laws. Remove the stuff that will burn before the fires start.
Years ago I used to say if I lived in an area like that prone to fires, and I had water, I would put sprinklers every where, even on the roof line, connected to a tank and solar pumps.
He did the right thing by putting a sprinkler system on his house . Also he firesmarted his property. What you want to do is to create a humidity bubble around your home
Smart guy. I've been watching all these wild fires and wondering why people weren't putting sprinklers on their roofs and around the house. I'd have a pool and also tanks holding water in a steel shed.
Water only stop fire effectively if it prevent the fire before it happen. See it too many time when the fire broke out, the house is nearly gone even if the fire fighter show up with the water hose. The house that was saved, have multiple source of water and energy to activate it. The rock wall is a great idea. So, you will have to invest in storage tank and generator. Small price to pay for a peace of mind.
Yes good job , government won't save them , only u as a home owner can save it, good job I would stay behind fight it some times it takes no effort at all.
When the history is such public knowledge and has been for decades, why do people not take the initiative and install something similar. Instead of living an Eden cause now Eden isn't burning its burnt. For god sake learn by history, and stop making the same mistakes. As the heartbreak is potentially avoidable.
Beautiful home. I'm glad he was able to save it.

Nice work! So great to see ways people can save their homes!
I know that dude. I’m not surprised he installed a sprinkler defense system, John is a very capable guy.
Such a dramatic delivery by this young reporter.
Having the available water and fuel to run a pump is the key.
During the complex fire the municipal water tanks ran dry in just a few hours.

Steel roofs for Gaud sakes, those look lk asphalt shingles if not mistaken, unnecessarily flammable. Happy his beautiful place came thru.
Wow…!
Well done young man‼️

Never depend on the insurance companies....take matters into your own hands as this gentleman did.

Buying a house in a forest is about as smart as buying a house on a beach in Florida.

Do they make a sprinkler system that use clear(not pink) retardent? Maybe a dluted solution. Use pressure washer ?
Smart man

I wish the ppl in LA installed those before their homes burned to ashes 😢!
You are amazing protecting that beautiful home!!!
The problem with LA is even the water supply itself being in a drought
Why the million dollar houses didn't have this set up pre installed? Its common sense

offensible space? maybe .Defensible space, yes.
The home saved. Now lets conserve water for lives.
Water stops fire, no sheeiitt.
How any Californian can keep voting for any democrat is beyond human comprehension.
