I have that bottom cover also but mine is not a Z71 just a LT, also for my oil filter I use 2 red party cups so the oil falls in the cup and doesn’t make a mess and doesn’t get all over my hands.
One last thing to mention is go into your dash, go to the oil life setting, and reset the oil life. On the higher end trucks with the “digital dash” Just go to the screen with oil life on it, should be the same set of screens where you can view trip meters, mileage, tire pressure, etc. press the right arrow on the steering wheel and choose reset so it doesn’t keep dinging at you to do an oil change soon.
Take a plastic solo cup and put it under the filter and unscrew it. The oil goes into the cup not down your hands. One of the coolest tricks I've learned. Doesn't work on all filters obv but the vertical filters out in the open like this work great!
After draining the oil pan, I drill a tiny hole on the side of the old filter near the bottom and let the oil drain out of the filter into the pan. Then I remove the old filter with less mess.
A little late here, but once you go to your oil percentage on the trucks dash through the steering wheel, hold the check mark for about 5 seconds and it’s going to reset to 100%
Any kind of oil as they all meet the same specifications as long as you use synthetic. Filter, just don’t go with the cheapest, especially if you go longer between changes.
A tip I picked up on a forum to avoid the filter dumping oil on the frame (and you) - Wedge a piece of cardboard over the cross rail to direct oil into your drain pan. Oil life monitor can be reset from driver information center. That brake fluid looks like hell, probably never been done. It is way past due to flush the brake fluid.
@@matt-diy that’s true I’ll give u that man but also taking off plastic skid plate was a mistake u don’t need to do that either filter is right behind it but other then that ya did a good job so keep doing ur thing Man U seem like a good dude
Always wear eye protection. and wear a latex gloves..and make sure the gasket comes off with the old filter, sometimes it will stick to the engine block.
Very nice video... going to change my Silverado’s oil today... can you ask josh if that’s a 1500 or 2500? and if so is it lifted a few inches? I don’t seem to have the same clearance he has underneath. Mine is not a Z71. I have a 2016 with LTZ package. Lastly, what size are his T/A tires? Thanks..

Correcto its way over by the tranny junction.
How do you reset the oil life indicator back to 100% life?
This one I didn’t reset I am not sure.
It’s easy go to the oil percentage on dash push the right arrow on steering wheel and hit ok

Something I do with my old one since I’m throwing it away is puncture the bottom and let it drain before removal
How much did you spend on the oil and filter?
In this case about $60. However it can be done cheaper using synthetic oil from Walmart.
Hood video Thanks
I was gonna watch but once I heard 5.4 I was out
A simple mistake man.....

What did you seal the bolts with?
Do you mean the drain plug? If I remember correctly this one doesn’t have a separate seal.
Why didn't you pre fill the filter?
Some do some don’t I personally don’t do that.
Where are the gloves man!
I forgot 😅
