    For a home gym, space is KING! In order to maximize your space, you're going to want a place to store all of your barbells, weight plates, dumbbells, and more. The storage rack I have is a monster version of the Titan Mass Storage System. There are many companies making something similar, including Rogue, but I think for the price and offerings, Titan's is the best value.

      Garage Gym Reviews True. I have 580kg of bumper plates on the bottom shelf, and the supporting cross members have not succumbed at all.

    • @shanedm3396
      @shanedm3396 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      martyjanderson My monster rack is a 6-post, the 4 outer posts being 90” and the 2 inner posts 100” (a cross-member spans the gap). I don’t mind the tall height of the monster mass storage rack because I have a step stool that I use whenever I need a light dumbbell from up top. I’m only 5’8” so I have limitations.

    • @shanedm3396
      @shanedm3396 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      martyjanderson When I ordered my monster mass storage, I ordered an extra shelf, so now I have 5. The unit holds dumbbells from 2.5 to 75#, kettlebell pairs from 6kg to 48kg, and 570kg of bumper plates, not to mention the weights on the side. It’s great. But dint attempt to assemble it alone. I nearly decapitated myself lifting those shelves.

    Do you have a hard time getting the 75+ lb dumbbells out of the rack, especially with your shelves being so close together? I had to space mine out significantly in order pull them out without having to do an isometric curl to get them out. IMO this is a major flaw with the vertical design of this rack system. Most DB racks have offset shelves.

      It isn't good for the more expensive bearing bars to be stored on one end, some people say that the bearing isn't meant to bear load in that dimension.
      As I don't currently own any bearing bars, I can't really speak to the veracity of that statement, but it's what they say.

    At my new place I was limited on wall space with how I was able to lay everything out, so it now doesn't have all the shelves and storage it used to, I mainly filled it with dumbbells plates, shoes and belts and have to move the other stuff off in new locations. But it is still a great system as I am able to change it to how I wanted to set stuff up to get to fit. Maybe I will do a quick video of the changes of it soon. Still need to finish putting together my new home gym but it is getting closer.

    I obviously get why you're doing this channel. That most of your gear you didn't pay for. (THUNBS UP!!). But, the culture...I think it's ironic most of the guys that have garage gyms are putting them in their garages because they don't have the extra room INSIDE. :) It's so much cheaper to join an actual gym. Most gyms should have more equipment. Some even have coaches (for a fee). Serious powerlilfters/bodybuilders workout in a gym. :) Most guys with garage gyms don't live in 5 million dollar homes in elite neighbourhoods like Beverly Hills...to afford $50k+ of gear...heh...to each his own...
    The idea of a "garage gym" makes no sense to me.

      Obviously you've never been in a commercial gym. Most are stocked with garbage equipment. Unless you are lucky to have a lifting focused gym near you. And most "trainers" can barely show how to use a machine let alone barbell movements. My gym all in is around $3000. Rogue RM4 Fortis Rack, Rep FB 5000, Rogue Ohio Bar and Ohio Power Bar bench, bumpers, iron, Titan deadlift jack and 2 diy platforms. Add in the extra $600 to insulate and sheet the walls and a heating solution and it's better than just about any commercial or globo gym.

      I have come to realize how valuable my time is. That is the main reason I built my own gym. It does not make sense for me to piss away my time driving to and from a location where I may or may not be able to use the equipment for a particular work out I have planned. When I did attend commercial gyms, I would always have to have multiple exercises lined up in the event I could not access the equipment I needed, but that is not an option when I am trying to fine tune a workout for specific results. Also, I am a pretty social person but at the gym, some people treat it like a social club and it can difficult to keep up a good rhythm. I'm running a Rogue ML 490, Ohio bar, Titan hefty bench, iron plates, and bands. Just under $2000.
