    Your explanation of the two different blade types was right on. Spinnerbait is my go to bait just about every time I hit the water. I carry about 50 of them on a rack on the inside of my rod locker lid.
    Over 20 years ago, I attended a BASS U. seminar on spinnerbait fishing by the late great Ken Cook. He broke down the relationship between blade type and size….head weight….target depth….and retrieve speed. It really open up a whole world of different ways to effectively fish spinnerbaits. I’ve talked to guys that say they never catch anything on a spinnerbait and sometimes I feel like I can’t catch them on anything else. 😉

    Frank Scalish did a lesson back in October of 2020. Talking about setting up one's bass boat. In order to drive on water (he sets it up, not for calm water conditions, but rougher waves and such). Encountered in bass competition.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt, Jeffreys and Frank. Go through the various options. Between the three blade, four blade and five blade options (five blade relate to other boat types, however he explained it is possible to obtain smaller diameter prop units). Which can work in bass boat angling situations. Matt arrived at the analogy. That perhaps the three blade option. Was akin to cruising gears in automobiles. One does not have much power available, but okay for straight cruise driving. Compared to the five blade option. That works best to orient boats in restricted room (such as trying to orientate oneself in the trough between two waves for example).

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The key engineering term that they came up with, used by a lot of the propellor shop engineers. Was hydraulic slippage. Where the blades that offered most slippage (such as the three blade options). Took the longest time to react. Upon doing something to engine power, or steering. Or whatever control intervention is done by the boat driver. Clearing in the case of these spinner bait blade options. A similar thing is happening. Whereby, the more blades that are acquired by these baits. The less slippage it enables those baits to have. The trade off being. That it also enables the angler. To manipulate the bait more. When working at shorter distances.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In other words. What we are saying (subject to the greater expertise of the local prop shop engineering assessment). These spinner baits and lures. With additional blades. Could be useful for throwing. Around various kinds of structure. The backs of creeks. The places where one is trying to work down. To the smaller scale. The angler can benefit maybe. From having increased control over the bait (although, as Frank admits, by the time you get to five blade propellor units). These may not be the fastest in the world. Compared to the four. Or the three blade.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I would like to see though. Are some of the bass anglers. Taking some of those exceptionally large (for deep spoon fishing), metal spoons. And simply chopping some of those in half. Why? Because one thing those deep spoon fishing baits have. Is an angle of curvature to them. That one does not often find. In the usual one ounce, or half ounce bass spoons. I looked at the angle of curvature of some of them. And it's not very exaggerated. I often wondered what would happen. If one look a larger spoon. And re-sized it down to around half it's length. One would have to punch a new hold and do some modifications. To the spoon. To create a new hook attachment location. I can't understand to my mind. Why bass anglers. Are so precious about having their spoons. All shined up and immaculate. Fish don't care. They really don't.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Especially if anglers have those rods. That have that braided line on them and such. So as to make those larger types of spoons. Really work some action in the water. In the same way. As one would go with a more aggressive propellor design. In some instances. For example, where a lake is overwhelmed with bait fish. For the fish to forage on there. One has to do something a bit different. To make the fish even want to look. At a bass angler's lure.
