  • 🥳 This is our step-by-step guide for growing Scallion Microgreens on coco coir with Tips & Tricks along the way! Scallion Microgreens are more of a delicate crop, as they are very small in size.
    ✅ Scallion Microgreens are PACKED with a lovely onion flavor and they made a great addition to our meals - in fact they became one of our favorites to use!! The main issue with growing Scallion microgreens is controlling mold that happens from the seed hulls naturally decaying. However, we discuss this topic in our video here!!
    We hope all the tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the video to help you grow microgreens at home or for your business! When making these videos, we take extra care to put out TH-cam videos that have the most comprehensive, easy, and in-depth free Microgreens Tutorials that you can find on TH-cam, as we do not hide any of our growing techniques, methods, or secrets and we try to be as transparent as we can.
    **Keep in mind that for different grow mediums such as grow mats or our reusable microgreen grow medium, different techniques may need to be used to get the exact results, so keep in mind that not all mediums are equal - however, this video will give you a great head start on learning!
    And if you want to know even more in depth how to grow microgreens? Our newest book "Becoming a Microgreen Master" is NOW AVAILABLE!!
    We also have MANY other full walk-through grow videos on our TH-cam channel for various crop varieties! Thank y'all so much for the support!

    I grow my "sprouts" a touch different and actually more like you do for microgreens.
    I don't sow as thickly but I let them grow out taller and cut them down to about only 1 inch tall. But I can get several cuttings off of them. the last few times I grew chives as I can get the seed for free from my big patches of chives from the garden. And instead of composting the roots-i plant them out into my herb beds. Let them grow just a tiny bit bigger and they will reward you by regrowth.
    This past summer, to try and save money, Because onion seed for sprouting is so expensive, I planted out big onions and let them go to seed. I only ended up with 6 tablespoons of seed. I now know why there is the huge price for onion seeds.
    But I grow onions for the garden from seed, they are topped regularly to keep them short under the lights and to grow stocky for planting out.
    All those little cuttings from topping are as nice as the chives I grow as microgreens/ sprouts. Plus I end up with garden fresh organic onions/shallots/scallions and chives.
    Now to figure out how to get garlic chives to thrive in my garden like the regular chives.
    Love this video and I'm getting excited about growing more microgreens.
    Oh because of your pumpkin video I have saved a bunch of squash and pumpkin seeds to sprout. I do not like the flavor of them but my chickens went absolutely bonkers over them.
    So for my little egg laying pets I now have wheat-sunflowers-lentils-popcorn and now these huge luscious pumpkin and squash sprouts. It will help keep them healthy while the snow flies.
    I'm so happy I found this channel. Stay safe you two. Keep sprouting!

      Well, for almost $600.00, We would have to have a pretty big operation to justify that cost! The greens harvester is mainly for lettuce-like crops, because it pulls the leafs off. Sorry: fun to grow, but from a small farm commercial standpoint, strawberries are a waste of energy and space. Two years to fruition. Requires tons of space that could be used for more profitable crops.

Water Lentil, it is a legit source of plant based B12 which, according to most, is impossible to get from a vegan diet. I have done onion microgreen, which are very similar to chives. Do you really eat the seed hulls? I found them to be un-edible and would get stuck in my teeth. However, I found that if you wait, they will remove the seed hull and you can get multiple cuts from them, without seeds on top. I am currently on cut #3 of my current onion microgreens batch.

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mandy and Cj.
    What is the reason for putting a layer of soil over the seeds. I haven't got a straight answer regarding onions and why some prefer soil over the seeds and some dont

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jordan! Putting a layer of soil over does a few things... it helps trap humidity and moisture, helping in germination. It can also act as something for the seeds to press against and get the seed shells removed while pushing up through... Try it with and without soil over and see what works best for your batch! Some batches do best with a thin layer, other do well without any layer at all!

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  3 ปีที่แล้ว
