Nothing like watching someone who's done it before. Impressive and satisfying. Dewalt ought to make those triggers modular (with switch) if they're going to fail so often.

I think it's pretty neat that out of all the impact drivers only one required taking the actual hammer assembly apart to fix. And even that one required no parts so for the whole video you used only a couple springs and some contact cleaner.

i sell Milwaukee and Dewalt tools locally in NYC (no online sales). that DCF887 XR impact (as well as DCF787 and other cost down versions of that impact) break down constantly. same goes for the DCW210. they break all the time and i'm honestly sick of having to take them back, returning to vendor, re-selling, etc. Milwaukee tools are far more reliable but their batteries suck. Milwaukee 8ah and 12ah HO batteries stop working due to faulty BMS designs very often.
if you're shopping for dewalt 1/4" impacts, i recommend DCF840 and 845. far more reliable while also being smaller and lighter

      YES, don't buy Milwaukee.
Im afraid they have the motor controller set up run hard and fast. Resulting in a shorter life span. A motor problem with a Milwaukee is simply not worth fixing. as the motor, controller, switch and battery contacts are all one piece. basically you would be replacing half the machine, for the price of a new one.

Hello Dean, i could really use your advise. I have a DeWalt DCF835 impactor. The battery charges to full so that one is fine. However when I press the switch all I see is one of the front led blink shortly and nothing else. I connected the battery directly to the motor and that runs well, so I am sure it must be in the switch. I cleaned it out like you do with contact spray etc.
When i measure the voltage coming into the switch on the Red/Black wires I measure the full 14V. But when I measure above the switch between the black and yellow wires I measure about 10v?? Not sure what the blue and white wires below the switch are for? Any ideas what could be wrong, and can I only replace the switch or do I need to but a complete new electric component which is almost as expensive a a new impactor!?
Hope you can advice or give me some tips to try?
    Thanks for your help!

I have one (drill driver) that works sometimes and mostly nothing happens when you push the trigger normal but if you slap the trigger on and off really fast you can get it to spin. I want to toss in trash but still it sits there. I see what you are doing, but I do not understand the things that you are doing. Lifting here pushing there disconnecting this disconnecting that is there any way you can either slow down your video or zoom in and get closer and show exactly what you're doing when you are working on these switches? Hell from your video. We can't even tell what your spraying on that. Thank you very much. It's exactly what I need if I can get a little bit more third grade level. And yes I've been building engines and cars since I was young and I'm 63 but I just can't get the learning effect. I need to be able to do this myself from the videos I'm watching. I guess maybe I'm asking for a little bit more talking maybe pausing the video zooming in on what you're doing and how you're getting these things apart so I don't open up mine and end up with a basket of parts.

As a suggestion go with the one where u already have some batteries for.
If you don't have any, Makita Milwaukee or DeWalt will give you great results regardless of the brand. Festool and Hilti are also popular but much more expensive.

They're not the best for bigger holes but I'm sure you'd use an actual hammerdrill for that. What ever brand batteries you're invested in already would be the one I'd go with. 👍👌🛠️🗜️🔧🔩📏⚡⚠️🔌😄

      Depends on too many factors.
To me its Makita, Bosch Professional and Metabo. They all make solid machines and supply spare parts for reasonable prices.
But you always have to do your research not every tool they make is the best for you.
All my 18V tools are Makita since their battery ecosystem is huge and affordable.
But there are many more excellent brands like FEIN, Eibenstock and many more high end specialty brands.
In general if you need a specific tool thats corded not cordless id always go with a brand that specializes in that field.
