I am an actor and content creator with Hollywood credits including roles on Lucifer (Netflix), Starlight Christmas (Hallmark), JT Leroy (Universal Studios), etc. In this channel, I offer insight to Kpop performances using my 10+ years of training in dance, acting, singing and overall performance. In dance, my forte are contemporary and musicals and have done most of my performances in theatre. Taemin is really a true professional on stage. With how many times he has ripped his pants, had mic-problems, performed in heavy rain or been attacked by bugs (his greatest enemy) on stage, he has been forced to learn to deal with it ^_^

Chen is not the only one who has amazing vocals in EXO. I think everyone agrees that exo has one of the best, if not the best vocals in the industry. They have a lengthy full-blown acapella bridge in tempo which is just chef’s kiss worthy
Everyone has good vocals in exo for me even the raps line. good vocals for me not really applied to have the ability of doing high note. but seriously, exo members all havr good vocals like they complementing each other.
Okay what i really like about baekhyun (aka my bias) is that he wasn't a bad dancer, but he wasn't A DANCER you get me. There was kai and sehun and lay and xiumin, so the rest were kinda hidden. But baekhyun trained himself so hard in dancing that he became one of exo's best dancers, even doing solo dances all of a sudden. Monster era baekhyun was such a powerhouse

This is the performance where Taemin's in-ear wasn't working at all. When he steps offstage at the 4:20 mark, a fan caught him on the side of the stage quickly, but calmly, removing his in-ear, dropping it on the floor and then returning to the stage right on time to rejoin the dancers. Yes, this is why SM wanted him in this group; to provide stable confidence, his perfectionism and dancing skills for Super M. Although Baekhyun is the leader, Taemin provides leadership via quiet example to the less experienced members. Another thing to remember, Taemin debuted 4 years prior to EXO and his group mentored EXO in both singing and dancing, same with NCT. Taemin also mentored Kai during trainee days and after SHINee debuted. And again, Taemin, unlike the others, never had formal dance training. He started teaching himself at 10, attended an open audition at 11/12 (intl age) and was chosen as the main dancer of SHINee at 14.
In addition, Taemin was once asked, since he was such a phenomenal dancer, why didn't he stand out more with SHINee. Taemin's answer was that his job was to blend in seamlessly with SHINee, not stand out. This is his philosophy. The time for him to stand out is when he is doing his solo work and concerts. Just another reason why I respect him so much as a performer and person.

Can't believe its been almost 12 years since Taemin debut :') time really flies. It's odd to see him as a 'senior' and legend in the industry when he's still so young and around the same age of those who debut years after him.
SHINee has dealt with so many stage incidents over the years (still not over how they handled the broken mic stand during Dream Girl perf) something like a malfunctioning in-ear wouldnt really faze Taemin. It's probably happened many times before.

@@lilipu they sang live in the exordium japan too, but they edited/lowered the fans voice because its too loud 😊which is why it sounds like that, because if you see other performances of that day, you can literally hear their breath while they are singing and also adlibs too😊. It sound different from Seoul one because all the microphones , equipments, camera work & recording its wayyyy better in japan ones

A little random fact about Taeyong.
(Because he wasn't always where he is now, in terms of rapping and dancing.)
He was actually casted on the street and persued to get into SME. At that time he didn't even know what things such as 'The Big 3' were. He didn't really have any particular practice in singing and rapping. Also. He could not dance for his life. Even the dance teacher gave up on his dancing and told him that it was hopeless for him to persue it. But Taeyong decided that he could do it and even at times where nobody, literally nobody, believed in him, he managed to pull through, danced hours on end alone in the studio to practiced and now, years later he is (in my opinion) a really great and talented dancer. Especially knowing the fact that he didn't have any qualifications in it before.
And that's the end. He really deserves all the support and happiness. More so, because no one believed in him for quite some time. ❤

Then Taeyong just blew me away lol, how did he manage to do that? From zero experience to a main dancer, main rapper and a vocalist? Yes, Taemin struggled with his in-ear monitors. And shortly after that he removed them. Still, he slayed the performance without those things :)

@@WS-ks6fu i think bcoz in-ear helps the idols to clearly listen to the music, the beat and etc., unlike when you play it on a big speaker, sometimes it's hard to notice the beats. idk that's just my own understanding
SHINee Periwinkle it makes them hear the music and their own voices better bcz idols tend to not hear it bcz of the screaming
@@WS-ks6fu It's also because almost all the speakers are facing the audience, so it's difficult for them to hear the music or themselves singing so they use in-ears to hear themselves too.

I'm a fan of EXO and NCT, but when they perform my eyes are mostly on Taemin.

Me too. This group literally have all my main biases: Taeyong in NCT 127, Ten in WayV, Taemin in SHINee and Baekhyun un EXO. But my eyes are always in Taemin. His stage presence is outstanding.

I don’t think Lucas meant to stand there and end up on the wrong spot. It seems like he was heading for his real spot but he bumped into Taemin. You can tell by the way his body kind of lean towards the left after bumping into T.
Check it out again and u will see lucas getting out the lane where taemin is standing. Obviously, taemin is so gentle in everything he does. Such a polite and humble person. Anyway, lucas slayed it too, but our taemin is still the best for us. We admire him not just because he is talented, it’s because of what he is as person. Very good human being inside and out. When bts is around, Ji min and him hugging and talking. When Exo is there, Kai’s with him.He is everybody’s friend, everybody’s favorite.😍😍😂😂 just saying....

When you said about Lucas and Taeyong dancing amongst legends, my favourite fun fact is that Ten was inspired in a BIG way by Taemin and SHINee into becoming an idol. Always cited Taemin as someone he looked up to and wanted to be like. Now they get to perform together and Taemin has said in interviews that he really admires Ten and wants to be more like him and it makes me BIG CRY. I fully recommend watching the SuperM friendship test because it's entirely wholesome and who doesn't love to see SuperM being their goofy ass selves.

Back-up vocals are pretty common in kpop. Because the performance as a whole is often weighed higher than live vocals in kpop, many groups have a bit of extra help in order to be able to put focus on things like stage presence, dancing, etc. But even with the back-up, most groups do sing live to some extent a lot of the time.
Yah I was a bit surprised. You can tell my conflict. Because I was always told that Taemin doesn’t lipsync or something like that but here, it was quite obvious. But it could be a management decision cause there’s a lot of them. They might’ve been singing live but just a shame that the back up was more dominant.
Jeff Avenue All idols uses back-up sometimes. They are only scrutinized for it if they rely 100% on the backing track, or if they never sing purely live. Taemin, as well as the other SuperM vocalists, has proven time and time again that he has the ability to sing live, even while dancing, and that is why he can get away with it. It is impossible to say that any idol “never uses back-up vocals”, because they all do sometimes. But it’s not as looked down on as it is in the west.

on the mention of a backup vocal: all artists sing to a backing track but during different parts of a song it may be stronger to assist the artist during a harder part of choreography. they definitely have a backing track especially with how tiring and intense this choreo is. it’s usually 95-97% live vocal and the remaining percent the backing track.
people can get mad at me but it’s no secret that artists use backing tracks. however in the case of most idols we’re lucky to have almost entirely live vocals compared to american performances 🤷🏽♀️
I think every artist in K pop has a back track. How much vocal is in the back track can vary.

hockeywitch I’m an exo-l of course i know Lay 😍 ya he is a good dancer but compared to the other guys that i mentioned, Lay doesn’t get much opportunity to show his dance. But I’m so grateful that he can show his dancing skills in China and well known for being a great dancer there.

I totally recommend No Manners! The choreo there is so pretty. There's a part in taeyong's rap where he mentions the word toxic(your love is toxic, something along the lines?) and he added a small part in the choreo where he's like, "drinking" in the toxic and also another part where he's said to be injecting something in his skin. I just thought it was so clever! SuperM has such nice small details. Anyways love the reaction as always

*Taemin* during this performance had some little problems with mic and that thing u have in ears while performing _(I forgot how’s it called xD sorry)_ is was still falling when he was dancing so he just took it off and sang without it he tried to fix it and after he smoothly joined the performance again~ such a profesional he was forced to deal with those problems so it was nothing new for him >< also I've heard that Taeminie had a cold as well so half of his highnote hit Baek 💚 _just some fun facts >

YAYYY, THANX FOR THIS, Jeff I've always heard you speaking about how you really love synchronisation, there's a girl I'd recommend you check out, I'm a massive fan, and I'm not sure if you've heard of them, they're called SHINee, they're the group Taemin is a part of, they're known for there synchronisation and there really complicated dance routines, they're also known for the fact that they are horrible at lip syncing, they always sing live even when they're dancing, and they have 5 very distinctive voices, the Main vocalist , Jonghyun who has left this world for a better place has been cited as being born for music, if you were to say Taemin has complete body control, he has complete voice control. I could write you an essay about them but I don't want to clog up your comment section lol. THANX FOR ALL THESE REACTIONS . BTW I love your voice, it's so soothing to listen to.

Tbh, the hate against this group by haters from other groups because they were not chosen for the massive project and misguided "fans", are what hurt this masterpiece. Even though, they still slayed and conquered. Jopping was supposed to be bigger, badder, different, edgier, flashy, overpowering and it freaking delivered! I was not disappointed in the least. People have to keep in mind Capitol records decided in what direction they wanted to go. They approached SM. So in terms of lyrical messages Capitol is at the helm. Besides give it time. They're just starting...Performing this live isn't a piece of cake. The choreo comes with great intensity, precision and control. They gathered the right set of artists. I am happy you can appreciate the little things with an open mind. SuperM is that group with zero weaknesses or plot holes. Lol...I do hope you continue to check out NCT, EXO, WayV and Shinee. Taeyong actually is a legend of his own and I hope you'll check out his freestyles and NCT group chorreo to see how amazing he truly is. He fits so many styles you can't contain him in a box. x) But I have to say he is among legends and they all bring unique flavors and styles that suit each other. They have amazing chemistry and synergy onstage! They are unstoppable!
Fyi, baekhyun also dont have dance trainings, AND he debuted as an exo member just 4 months after his training period. Him and chen actually came to sm 3 days apart, so yes, its so short.
We don't say EXO are vocal kings lightly. All members are vocally gifted. Beyond gifted. SM artists are a force tbh.

You're so on point about Bacon having a lot of soul in his voice. I think he and D.O. (another EXO member) both sound like they must have been R&B singers at Motown in a previous life. Even when they were young they had a lot of soul. Listen to an old EXO's song called "What Is Love". It's just Bacon and D.O singing it and it makes me cry every time. It's so soulful. And you've got to listen to Bacon singing "UN Village". I seriously think he could come to The States and have a huge career as an R&B singer here.
You should react to Taemin's "Hit The Stage, waking the innder demons." He dances with Koharu (who I believe is the choreographer) to his song "Goodbye." This song shows some different dance moves. Also, if you want to hear more of baekhyun's soulful voice, you should check out his song "Un Village."
You should react to Shinee live because they are arguably one of the best group performers in kpop. Ex:Evil live, Lucifer live, Ring Ding dong are iconic. You should also react to Chungha because she is a soloist but shes an amazing dancer.

Am just so Proud of Baekhyun, he said in a interview how when he entered SM he didn't know how to dance. Seeing how He and Chen were the ones with the shortest amount of time in training before their debut. He said that Kai took chen, and Sehun,( another EXO member and dancer) took him. How he trained all night, because he didn't wanted to be remember as a idol who couldn't dance. He said he didn't have confidence to do it before, but his coach told him that he had the ability to do better. And that give him the little push he needed, so he started to put more attention to his dancing. He now is a very well all round idol. Actor, singer, co creative director of his own clothing line, and now a beauty product model. Yeah, that's our Genius idol. Btw, I love kai too. ( and i do support SuperM members) I just needed to point this out about Baekhyun. 🤗
Im an NCT stan but before nct i was and still in love with shinee the group where taemin came from so maybe you should check them out they're so talented too

A quick shoutout to Baekhyun for keeping up with the rest of the team in terms of dancing (we already know he's a vocal king), because all of the guys in SuperM debuted after a long period of training, I'm talking like 4-5+ years. Baekhyun (and Chen) literally debuted with EXO _two months_ after joining SM, and had no prior experience in dancing (though Bakehyun does hold a black belt in hopkaido)!
In his last interview somewhere (W Korea, I think), he said that basically he didn't want to be known as "that one bad dancer in EXO", so Kai took him under his wing, and Lay took Chen and trained them throughout the years of performing, outside of their usual dance practices.

SAYONARA HITORI is one of my favourite songs by Taemin and I swear, the first time I've listened to it I felt emotional without looking at subtitles. It's just mesmerizing. I think you will discover another part of Taemin, beacuse this songs is a bit diffrent from all the others. Also the dance...I'm not a professional dancer but I can definetly say that his movements in this song are just on another level.

@@dominicsimonacfan541 I love SH, but my absolute favorite is his dance performance video of "Flame of Love" - not the MV, but the performance video. Have you seen it? I think it just slightly edges out SH. His arm wave in it towards the end is so incredibly elegant and graceful that it's hard to believe it's real. Plus his speed and subtle pops/locks make it such addictive eye candy...just breathtaking.
Yass! I'm so excited when you mentioned taeyong. You definitely should check out more of taeyong's freestyle and look closely to him in the dance practice jeff. He's one of SM's best dancer for sure. In my opinion, taeyong's dance style is the most suitable for any nct music. He owned that vibes and energy, such a detailed dancer, and ofc he's the best at facial expressions. Oh and he's a great performer on the stage too! You can check his solo stage in super m concert or any nct performance. Hope you'll acknowledge him in the next reaction😊

Baekhyun is one of the most technically capable and strong vocalists not in kpop but the music industry as a whole. His range is insane but his vocal finesse honestly is next level. I hope you can check out more of him!

When these fancams just came out, it was so interesting to watch each of their fancams because their style is very different from one another yet they make it works.
And it seems they're given a lot of freedom to change their choreo to what they see fit, judging from their mini reality show (they're even talking about dance while eating lmao)
And there are few things happening here: taemin had a problem with his mic, yet he had a time to smile at Ten lol (it's in their focus cams), lucas got into wrong position so Taemin pushed him. Plus how Baekhyun said this choreo is dance break for whole 4 minutes lol. Precious people
I feel like it's worth pointing out that Baekhyun is the only person in his group who is technically not credited as a dancer (although I think if they had to name roles these days he would be put there). The fact that he can blend with the levels of Kai, Taeyong, Ten and freaking Taemin is so incredible to me. He's one of the best vocalists of his generation, and yet here he is... dancing with Super M.
Taemin is really a pro.. he performed half of that song without in ear coz he take it off when mark is rapping and theres only 2 members in stage.
10:01 Imo, people really needs to pay more attention to how Ten pulls of this move, his buildup in his walking and then his powerful moves that are so hard hitting and he had such powerful stomps tooo, like he shouldve been put in center for one of the choruses cuz he did it so welll(at least he was in the front lines for both tho)

taemin was having problems with his in ear, and he actually took it off when he wasn’t dancing on stage so he performed more than half the song with no in ear and he didn’t miss a beat, he’s a true professional and veteran :)))
Actually at 9:56 it's Baekhyun and then at 10:00 it's Taemin and Baek harmonizing with Baekhyun's voice singing the higher part in the harmony (I've been listening to Taemin's voice for 10+ years and Baekhyun's for 8 so I can tell them apart very easily 😅😂)

This is their title track of their self-titled debut extended play 1st mini album and according to the lyrics, the title’s a combination of the words jumping + popping = jopping and the “M” stands for Matrix/Master. *From what I could see in the MV, Baekhyun & Kai are the only ones it seems who display their superpowers of teleportation & light.* The song was produced by an english duo of a British Production called LDN Noise who’s also worked on many different tracks for groups; such as: SHINee, EXO, NCT and WayV. Somehow, however it was leaked on Oct 1st 2019 through Weibo, which spread to TH-cam & Twitter where requests for take down were immediately issued. The music video displays Taemin on a motorcycle, Mark & Taeyong in cars, Ten & Lucas with a tank, Kai and Baekhyun with a helicopter. They are the Kpop Avengers (Superheroes of Kpop); *From what I could see in the MV, Baekhyun & Kai seem to be the only ones that actually display their superpowers of teleportation and light.* The one thing I really isn’t a big fan of is how our guys have to be forced to compensate for most of the western audience to do their best in singing & rapping in english knowing some of them aren’t fluent in english which is probably why they had to highlight/autotune abit more of some of the members voices but they all killed it in my book (You still need to read subs because it’s not 100% in english). They are quite talented and are often referred as Concept Kings because for each song from the lyrics, to the outfits, the choreo movements the props and little details everything refers to their concepts. Each of their albums have different concepts and they are pretty good dancers.
N (Cha Hakyeon) the leader of VIXX is a particularly good dancer with background in hip-hop, ballet, jazz, and contemporary. He also often choreographies dances, his choreographies even made him win Korea Youth Dance Festival before his debut when he was 19. He both have solo choreographies and group choreographies, with dance practices, you should definitely check out his videos.
11:05 just so you know, EXO are known for having amazing vocalists and both Baekhyun and Chen are Main Vocalists (along with D.O). I was just watching your reaction to Monster and you praised some vocals that were actually Baekhyun instead of Chen, for example at the very end of the song, the one you weren’t sure if it was actually Chen, it’s Baekhyun.

There's definitely a more pronounced backing track, mostly owing to it being promoted under Capitol, since we don't have such strict rules here when it comes to live vocals. Though even in SK, debut stages are known to use a louder backing track than normal since the point is promotion. They have all the time in the world to wow people in later performances with live vocals, but for the first time out, they want it to be perfect.
The fact that both Chen and Baekhyun got shook for each other's vocal at the audition they took makes me smile.
So far I saw your reaction for Obsession and Monster and those are not songs where Baek properly showcases his actual vocal. He's amazing there but there're other songs you can know his voice better. Wolf, for example, Eldorado and bunch of others. He and D.O. are main vocalists alongside with Chen for a reason, their vocals are insane too. He's amazing dancer as well and can also do rap so no wonder he was choosen for SuperM (they needed very strong vocalist there but the one who can actually keep up with one of the best dancers of their respective groups like Ten, Taemin, Kai, Taeyong, Mark and Lucas and that's exactly Baekhyun).
