I purchased the discontinued Brompton T-Bag for grocery shopping and touring, and went out for a ride to see how much stuff I can fit inside this bag. It's a LOT.
it goes without saying that I love the Brompton folding bike to run errands in the city, and the Brompton T-Bag just makes the bicycle much more capable in terms of cargo capacity.

I have a black M3L Brompton from 2011 and love the T- bag! Important to note that Brompton recommend you don’t use the T bag if you have the S type handlebars (straight sporty one). Loving you channel mate, best wishes from Cambridge England :)

You make some good points I especiallylike the netting idea. Im a courier and the way you packed your shopping is typical of how my bike looks and my bag has stood the test of time. handle bar mobility can be an issue but I usually cruise in such a crammed bag scenario so i reduce the likelyhood of having to make any extreme turns.

I bought my T-bag with my Brom in 2012 and it has 3x elasticated mesh pockets (left & right and a big front pocket) it also has a yellow interior, best of all it has 2x velcro strips with keepers that allow the bag to be closed without rolling the top down, so it can be overfilled way beyond its 31 litre capacity. It’s rear pockets are a zip pocket on the left and a drawcord closure open pocket on the right with a small drain hole, both pockets can take a 750ml water bottle.
Nice video. Good image quality and editing as well. Well done. So many American TH-camrs seem to love the sound of their own voice and gas on and on before they get to the meat of the content.

For those looking at buying this - it has a rain cover! - behind the yellow zip. Works well but you get water gather on top. Also doesn’t cover the rear bottle or rear compartment. It will fit a large laptop in it and a change of clothes when you get to work. Usually you would roll the top of the bag shut. Pocket in the front for a waterproof and side pockets for a spare tube or a train ticket. There is a zip compartment inside for a mobile or trinkets.
Also comes with a carry strap.

You have to be more careful regarding, not only the weight but the centre of gravity of that weight. I've done several times what you've shown in this video and I broke one bag frame. The problem seems to be the balancing of the bag while riding. If you can keep the heavier items in the bottom of the bag, you should be fine.Regarding the T-Bag vs the newer bags, I've the Explore edition one and for everyday use I think its much better and refined than the T-Bag. The rear pouches are much nicer with the magnets closure, the front pocket can be closed and the main compartment has a protected computer zone. When you walk around with the bag, the absence of a rigid handle, makes it much more comfortable. On the other hand, nothing can beat the T-Bag for grocery shopping and travelling by plane :-)

I have a T bag on my Brompton and I think it's great. One word of caution; it's very important to remember to fasten the side straps as if you don't! I have found it possible to get the brake levers caught in the fabric. All the best.
I have the old school T Bag. I love the crap out of it! The inside is a bright yellow to see everything inside. I wished the front wasn't such a flimsy mesh pouch though, but I also don't want the fabric like on yours. The size of the thing is so awesome. You should incorporate compression packing cubes for some better organization. :D
Thankyou nice video. I have the smaller bag & rear rack. I found l had to be careful on weight and amount of items carried both on the front & the rear, as it’s very different with a full bag and a empty one. Thanks for sharing. I managed to put a Brompton front block on my mtb rigid fork and used a T bag equivalent for touring in NZ South Island. The bag was very good. Hope to use my T bag in Korea in coming spring.
I am glad you like the T bag, I have been using an older version of T bag (the bottle holder is on the right, the lining is bright yellow) for more than 10 years and I have not found another bag as useful as T bag! I have a even older T bag I bought more than 15 years ago, not as good as this one

Bromptons are awesome for bike touring. T-bag is great. When paired with the rack bag, you will be surprised how much you can carry.

Victor, thank you for your great review. I also have a T-bag, its great. But not so comfortable if you have to wear it with just one shoulder-strap. Now I have 2 DIY straps with velco fastener to wear it like a backpack when I go by train. Anyway, the T-bag is a great option for the Brompton.
Several years ago, before biking around Europe's 2nd largest lake, Lake Balaton in Hungary, a friend lent me his T-Bag to try it out. The lake is 150-miles around and I took it casually over parts of 5-days. I had all my clothes and gear in the T-Bag. It was flawless. I never felt the weight up-front and found the slots around the bag, several of which stretch, functioned perfectly. I immediately went out and bought my own T-Bag after the bike trip. Having both the S-Bag (day to day usage) and T-Bag (for high capacity requirements) gives you lots of flexibility with your Brompton.

I've toured many times with the T-Bag, and use it on daily commutes I've carried MUCH more than 10kg. A cargo net on the top is great for touring, holds a map, hat, rain gear, snack anything you might need to grab.

I have the original touring bag which has an ALL steel frame, NO PLASTIC. I can and have got masses of stuff in it. It's like a tardis. Unfortunately the fabric isn't water proof so I bought several external rain covers so when needed I put two on, one over the other, to keep the contents of the bag dry. It works.

I have 3 bikes and a folding bike for travel only makes sense.. how many times I have to box my bike so much hassle and cost when traveling... Folding bike makes so much sense... Brompton design is so functional and the bike looks cool.. I believe it rides well... I like the steel frame and how well it is made
I regularly "overload" my T-bag to 15-20kg when grocery shopping and so far i've never ever had a problem. What's more, when I do this I typically am also wearing a rucksack with an extra 10-15kg+ and I weigh ±90kg. I did in the past worry a bit about this but have worried less since querying WBA (Will Butler-Adams the MD and major shareholder of Brompton Bikes) at a Brompton event many years ago, and he said he didn't foresee a problem.
That said, he often (modestly!!) claims he is no Brompton expert, and it is true that the technical department advises against exceeding 10kg front and 10kg rear. Anyway, for what it's worth that's my personal experience, and I've now been riding a Brompton and car-less since 2005.
Btw thanks to your excellent 6 accessories video, the Topeak Cargo Net is definitely on my To-Get list. As is the amazing X-Roller Eazy Wheel Extender 😉.

The newer Borough Roll Top bag with the soft handle can be used on the straight S-bar Bromptons, whereas the T-bag with hard handle was not considered suitable. That matters little for your H configuration though. I have recently bought the Borough Roll Top (for my M6L) and am very pleased with the 28 litre capacity, but am intent on keeping to the 10kg all up weight for safety and component longevity😊 I have been very impressed with the way the bike remains stable, comfortable, and still fun to ride when the bag is at capacity. Yes, a little more air in the front tyre can be helpful.
The Borough is beautiful from what I've seen in pictures. I'm glad you're satisfied! To be honest, since filling it up all the way will probably exceed the weight limit, those 3L difference in capacity is not a big deal at all... I still prefer the rigid handle, but maybe I'm old school. Ahah I'd love to have compared both side-by-side in person, but it wasn't possible. Anyways, these bags do a huge difference when using the bike. It remaisn very stable indeed!

The new T bag is better because of the magnetic closure of the side pockets.
Also the molle strap from the front is usefull.
I put the shoulder strap through the molle sistem for securing the content from the bag when is overloaded The front pocket whit zipper is also very usefull.

When doing BIG shops I sometimes take a ‘racksack’ inside a rucksack 🎒, for extra capacity.
BTW , I routinely exceed the luggage block capacity, often double, never had a problem
I find the basket bag seems to be my go to brompton bag, i have the s bag as well but hardly use it, the basket bag probs half the cost, enjoyed the video x

I used that model T-Bag on my Europe tour last year. My biggest complaint was getting the rain cover on it when the bag was full (I got a lot of rain on that trip!) I kept bulky items in the T-Bag (to save weight), and used dry-bags on the rack for the heavy camping gear. For commuting around Dallas, I just use the 2019 basket. Touring with the Brompton was great - especially the flying.
It must be awesome to tour on the Brompton. I'm looking forward to it! I haven't tested the rain cover yet, but hopefully I won't use the bag this full anymore. haha

My research would indicate it’s about eight years old. From the original owner. It’s in great shape - looks new. I’m watching all your vids now so I thought I would answer your questions here. I have the same exact bag you have. I use it every day (for three years) with a laptop inside, books and notebooks and works perfectly fine. Not a single rip. But I never have filled it as much as you. If I have to carry more stuff, I have the rear bag. When I'm riding for pleasure this bag it's bulky. That's because I turn to the rear bag. But I've done lots of km with de T-Bag and the only problem I've experienced is when the wind blows against me. In long trips I use the T-Bag and the rear bag at the same time. And there's people who add a third bag, a saddle bag, but I can't tell you how does it feels when riding.
Is the rear bag from Brompton as well? I'll look into that. But I plan on touring in the near future with a trekking backpack attached to the rear rack, we'll see...

I have the old style C bag and the older basket bag. Both have a rigid handle that I use all the time like a shopping trolley in a supermarket. The new bags and basket without a rigid handle are far less convenient. No rigid handle has stopped me buying the later bag. I stick with the scruffy old ones instead.
I’ve got the S handlebar, there is a lot of myths that say that you can’t use many bags with it… I have one of the bags that supposed to be only used with the type of handlebar you have, but I haven’t had any issues when riding even about town and around parks

I have the “S” Type handlebars and the Borough bag. Love it, and huge capacity, at least for my needs! I also have a Roll Top Bag which is great for daily trips to work where I don’t need a huge bag. What mirror do you use on your Brompton? I would love to mount one to the left side and not affect the fold.
I'm glad you're enjoying the Borough bag, they look really nice! I'm using a Mirrycle bar end mirror. I had no issues whatsoever to install it on my bike, but I did have to cut the tip of the left grip.
I bought the borough bag, in grey, 150€. Looks just ok, but the materials are really good. One disadvantage is that weights 1,6kills just empty. So you have room for only 8,5kg more. But it’ll be a bag for making Camino De Santiago in Spain
The T-bag weighs about the same, 1.5kg. But I wouldn't mind exceeding the limit by just a bit (18kg was way too much). I'd just be more mindful about potholes, etc.

Two things...I had a 5-day bike touring trip around Hungary's largest lake, Lake Balaton, and for that trip, borrowed a T-Bag from a Hungarian friend. It was fantastic! Not sure where you are grocery shopping, but I've switched to using the Kroger scan it yourself shopping app so that I can pack my panniers as I go. I have a Tern GSD (electric assist), so overall weight isn't the issue, it's balance. BTW, I second the suggestion of utilizing the rear for some of your cargo. I had some Wald fold down baskets zip tied to my old Specialized Hardrock, and they held quite alot. I'm keeping them around for when my daughter is big enough to ride a 20" wheeled bike. Don't know how they would interact with the folding, though.
The bulk of my shopping is done at Walmart, but I do go to Kroger every time I go grocery shopping. Thanks for the tips on that! As for the basket on the rear rack, that would really affect the fold, but I can actually attach my other Brompton bag to the rear rack pretty nicely. Will probably do that next time!

Hey, I'm glad you found me! That is mostly aesthetic, but it also serves to protect the rear wheel from rubbing against the main tube when the bike is folded up. A friend of mine from Brazil handmade it for me!
If you're worried about weight, maybe take a digital luggage scale with you for a few runs, just until you get some idea of the capacity. Also, it's not unusual for one tyre to seem like it's always lower than the other. Usually it's a minuscule leak from the valve. I check my tyres every ride on my road bike and at the moment the front is always a bit lower. It's fine for the ride. But yup, maybe put a little more pressure in the front to stop any bottoming out onto the rim in potholes. Any reason you prefer to load up the front, rather than the pannier at the back?
The digital scale idea is good, but I think I have a pretty good idea of how much I can fill it up before reaching the limit. I'll test on the next supermarket run. And yes, I should definitely check both tires before going out, because it could be a minor leak indeed. I'll also try carrying some cargo on the rear rack next time. I just wasn't completely prepared this time. Hahah I was too confident the T-Bag would do it.
Thanks for the video insight. I saw that you put around 115kg or 250lbs on the Brompton on that grocery store commute. I put around 220lbs (rider+cargo) on my full size bikes whether it be a road, gravel, or mountain bike on my daily bike commute to work. How much weight do you think the Brompton supports before it starts affecting the durability or handling of the bike? Of course, this is also considering that you have evenly distributed the weight. I know Brompton flexes so that is something I am curious about before deciding getting a Brompton myself. I'm a heavy rider too.

10:16 Is the carrier block designed for 10kg because it is plastic, or can the screws handle a maximum of 10kg?
Otherwise you could buy an aluminum carrier block and drive a few more kilograms with you around.
The 10KG are reached faster than you think. As an alternative would go at most a suitcase scale to weigh it on the road.

I only have Low and Standard. Mine's set to standard. The stabilization out of this camera is superb!
@@EverydayCycling IT IS, indeed !!! I just watch a review about this camera, after I watched yours here, and that other TH-camr showed us how to access HIGH in the settings menu. First he had Low and Standard, he restart camera, switch it to VIDEO and then return to the settings. HIGH option was there, under Low and Standard! Try it!!! :)
Hahahah I shopped too in Lidl supermarket and I exceeded by far too the limit weight. I ended removing 2 milk bricks into an independent bag holding from the handle bar.

I was touring in Sweden using the T-Bag, suddenly I started noticing some unusual movements. So I stopped, checked, and noticed that one of the two screws broke *inside* the frame :-( I managed to finish my tour but yes, here just to say you should definitely watch out and check that the bag+contents do not weight more than 10 Kg.
Absolutely, that's the biggest problem. Did you manage to get the bolt out later?
@@EverydayCycling tried everything but nothing worked. I managed to convince a bike workshop to drill another hole in between the two since that part seems solid enough, and that's how I've been using the T-Bag since then.

I discovered that the drawstring water bottle pocket will actually hold a full 2 litre bottle... same size as large Coke bottle.
Yes, it is a pretty tight fit, and 1/5th of your total load capacity (10 kgs) is used all in one go, but it does fit in without straining the stitching or anything. Just slacken the drawstring as far as it will go.
Note: Sample variation may mean that not all T-bags will do this, but it's gotta be worth a try.
Can you use only Brompton tires and tubes? Are those proprietary? Same question for the derailleur?

Have you though in changing the handlebar of the Brompton? I did with Ergon GP3. The looking is not as nice as the original handlebar, but definitely more confortable
I did use a GP2 for a while. I really didn't like the looks, that's why I shifted back to the originals. But I keep the GP2 for a touring, as they are really comfortable.
May I ask you which bottle holder ist this exactly?
Nice bag. It would be a good idea to distribute the weight evenly front to back. Better for the Bike and for you. Find a bag for the rear to compensate your weight. Load the front 2/3 to capacity and the rest in the back.
Yeah, I guess I'll be better off doing that next time. I'll use the S-Bag, I found a way to securely attach it to the rear rack without hitting my heels when pedaling.

I bought it from Freedom Folding Bikes, but they're out now. If you're looking for a new bag and don't have the same reservations I have about the new bags, you should definitely check them out. They're just as good, if not better than the T-Bag! I just wanted the rigid handle and extra 3L so much. Haha

What’s your rear rack? Or it’s just a standard one?
Problem was the T-bag wasn't compatible with the S-bar Brompton. The rigid handle fouled the steering. You could cut the handle off and make a strap... so the Borough bag was born.
Is there a reason you haven't used a rack bag on the rear carrier for large shopping runs? Split the load front and back.
I don't have the dedicated rack bag from Brompton, but I will improvise something next time for sure!
I think the rear rack bag on Brompton is pointless because it simply interferes with the fold and that is the main feature of this bike. What is the point of having a rear rack bag that you have to remove before entering the store to fold the bike?
My dealer installed rear-rack in no way interferes with my folding or shopping functions. It does however present an occasional problem when I have cargo that is so large (read long) that my legs hit it when peddling.

I'm planning to get one; I like the fact that it'll raise the mudguard off the ground slightly, which should help to stop the guard getting scratched on uneven ground.
That's the one Graham. Mine is from MiniMODs, but the design seems to be exactly the same!
If you carried a small piece of tarpaulin that you could put over the top it would also stop the insides getting wet when you had a full bag

What would happen weight wise if you changed out the plastic block for a Titanium or steel version?
The limit would still apply in my opinion. There are several places where the assembly could fail (frame, attachment bolts, luggage block, attachment at the bag), so even if you replace the luggage block by a titanium one, the bag could still break, or one of the bolts.

Thank you! I rarely use the GoPro, I use the Canon G7x a lot more. The good thing about GoPro mounts is that they work for any light cameras, as long as you have the right adapters!
