There is no superior or inferior, both are great, they are special in their own way. Depp and Wilder has the charisma needed for both character to come to life and they nailed it.

From what I've heard, Depp's portrayal was the only thing Wilder liked about the remake. What he was insulted by was the feeling that it was a subpar remake. He felt that they could have done a better job with the script and that they could have better utilized Depp's talents as an actor. That honestly says a lot about Gene, if you ask me! He approved of Depp as Wonka, but not the movie itself!
@@LegacyKnight-zm6vz From what I know, Gene didn’t watch the remake at all because he didn’t like how they approached it, but he did say he liked Johnny Depp as an actor very much.

Loved what you did here. Two actors who did justice to the character. It's known that Roald Dahl, the writer of the book, hated the Gene Wilder version. I liked the classic songs in that first version and I liked Gene too. But to me the story is far more superior in the Depp version. The opening broken down Disney like Willy Wonka intro was great. I loved the catchy little song. We have a father for Charlie. We have a nice look into Charlie's loving family. We hear wisdom from all his grandparents and we have this wonderful ending where Charlie says he would not give up his family for all the chocolate in the world. Then we have Wonka reconnecting with his dad. I know the backstory was not in the original story, but I liked it. I also liked seeing all the loser kids coming out after. And the squirrels! What a treat to do it like the book! To me having Charlie and his family enjoying dinner with Wonka in their house inside the factory was the icing on the cake. Those are the reasons I enjoyed the Depp version more.
Apparently the writer didn’t see the original, so the script was based purely on the book, which is how it should be. Otherwise you’re remaking the movie, and it’s pointless then. I def like the older Willy Wonka. Depp did a great job on whatever it was he was going for lol (its definitely the role you don't clock right away as JD playing it). Either way.. I do think if both met, they'd get along. They're both weird and sociopaths.
as someone who grew up with the original its hard to find his version ideal. The original fillm has such an ominous creepy tone to it when i watched it as an adult haha
0:15 I really like how it's edited so that the 05' Wonka knows exactly what the trick is going to be,but loves it none the less and can't get enough of it
Is it bad to say that i see them in a father-son relationship. Both complete each other in a weird way, but Gene's version of Willy is so much matured while Johnny's version of Willy is sometimes seems to be in need of guidance of some sort, like a young adult. They are head canonically father and son for me
Well I always theorized that Johnny Depp's Wonka is actually Charlie from the first movie. But anyway I think Gene Wilder's Wonka would see Depp's Wonka as a pure soul and take a liking to him
They are so different in the way they each chose to interpret the book character. Both are so great. Wilder had the calming voice though of course where Depp's is a little wilder. 😁
I LOVE THIS 😭❤️ I love the original, it holds a special place in my heart! But I always wondered what it would be like if they were side by side, now I know!!! Too cool!
Och. This video kind of made me open my eyes to Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka. I used to hate his version of the character, but I'd never thought I'd see his character with Gene Wilder's interpretation side by side talking. I still prefer Wilder, but Johnny I can definitely appreciate a lot more. This almost reminds me of Spock meeting Leonard Nemoy's character in the 2009 Star Trek franchise. The way they slowly started walking towards each other.
@@ShellySwirl I think there is a big difference between appreciating something and hating something, though. I've seen them both. Although I missed the Turtle Soup song and the Bubble Burp room.. I wholeheartedly prefer JD's version. It's fun and engaging, it doesn't have those silent boring moments that old movies tend to have when the adults are mid crisis. JD didn't just sulk around his office or sing sad songs, he had manic flashbacks providing even more story.. I guess I just like that it focused on the character's backstory more than the actual factory. Willy Wonka may have been JD's "worst role" but that's only because he's known for bigger and better things. The man is amazing at what he does.
Headcanon:Charlie and the chocolate factory's willy Wonka(Johnny depp) is actually an older charlie from the original Movie, years after the original Wonka(Gene wilder) died
Okay this is amazing. I wish I could be there 😂 I don't know why but, especially Johnny's willy Wonka factory, gives me such magical vibes, as if it was another universe aside from everything. I remember dreaming about it and that dream was one of the best ever
I’m sure even Gene Wilder would approve this. Thanks for this amazing video. While I’m not a big fan of the CATCF film I still appreciate it for what it is. It’s sad that WWATCF was hated by critics and even the author of the book himself. 🥺
Me too! I see this as the original Wonka's ghost visiting the new Wonka and taking a liking to him because new Wonka is really just an innocent child at heart who the world has outcasted
Bro I don't know why but this made me imagine an alternative universe where they got Gene to play Willy Wonka's father in the movie insted of Sir Christopher Lee. It would been a neat refrenses if they did that.
Johnny had some incredibility hard shoes to fill here. Im a very big depp fan, im a also a huge Gene Wilder fan too though, so unfortunately for me, i just felt Johnny departed too much from the masterpiece Gene had already created. Oddly too, Ive always felt guilty for this opinion because i do love both actors so much. So for me, this video helped me to make peace with that. Seeing the 2 interact was sort of like Gene giving Johnny boy the old "pat on the back" kinda thing. Like a Fatherly acceptance that a son has his own dreams lol. Anyway... I just loved everything about the first movie. The oopma loopas in the first movie were... untouchable. I did not like Burtons take on that At all...which may have really impacted how (i saw) Johnnys interpretation of wonka and how all that played out on screen. Had they been a cute and oddly silly, as he was, had they been as adorable and fun as the originals were...maybe it would have worked better. Idk... Anyway...im no film critic. Just a fan who loves them both and really glad i can marry these movies now without guilt over my favoratism. Thanks for that!😁😇😍❤
Depp's Wonka being surprised as Wilder's Wonka willing himself into existence saying that line far off in the distance always makes me rewatch it. And I need a full version of the Pure Imagination theme used here!
Very well done! 👏👏 Not so fun fact: Gene Wilder hated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 😬 I like both movies. I’m a big Burton and Depp fan and always like their weird takes on movies/characters. But I think I like Willy Wonka better. I’ve always adored Gene Wilder and he was a one of a kind legend. I tend to like the original of anything better as well. The story of his entrance at the beginning is really cool. It was his idea to come out with the cane and was so glad they used that take. He had a lot creative ideas for his characters like that with cool stories. Johnny Depp is similar to him in that way. 🍭🍫🍬
Tough to say for me. I like them both. Depp took a comical take to the character while keeping his sociopathic nature. Gene Wilder took a more realistic take. Atleast they both did their own thing.

There’s no contest here really,Wilder’s Wonka is far more superior and entertaining than Depp’s awkward goofy version.
The music and the way they act together is so calming peaceful heartwarming
This was so much more wholesome than I was expecting. I love it!
We miss you , Gene. Thank you for making our childhood magical.
Johnny needs to see this one himself.I think he would love it.
I def like the older Willy Wonka. Depp did a great job on whatever it was he was going for lol (its definitely the role you don't clock right away as JD playing it). Either way.. I do think if both met, they'd get along. They're both weird and sociopaths.
Yeah. But the Depp version is more in line with the book in all honesty
Depp said his version is Michael Jackson + Ana Wintour mixed
@@jolinejoline2471 that too
as someone who grew up with the original its hard to find his version ideal. The original fillm has such an ominous creepy tone to it when i watched it as an adult haha
@@MILEYANDJACOBSHOW yeah, I think that’s why they make jokes about Wilder’s Wonka being a child murderer
0:15 I really like how it's edited so that the 05' Wonka knows exactly what the trick is going to be,but loves it none the less and can't get enough of it
Gene Wilder: Toby Maguire
Johnny Depp: Andrew Garfield
Timothée Chalamet: Tom Holland
Is it bad to say that i see them in a father-son relationship. Both complete each other in a weird way, but Gene's version of Willy is so much matured while Johnny's version of Willy is sometimes seems to be in need of guidance of some sort, like a young adult.
They are head canonically father and son for me
Well I always theorized that Johnny Depp's Wonka is actually Charlie from the first movie. But anyway I think Gene Wilder's Wonka would see Depp's Wonka as a pure soul and take a liking to him
@@jonnaking3054 I'm not the only thought that
They are so different in the way they each chose to interpret the book character. Both are so great. Wilder had the calming voice though of course where Depp's is a little wilder. 😁
Funny that Wilder is calmer and Depp is wilder lol
I LOVE THIS 😭❤️ I love the original, it holds a special place in my heart! But I always wondered what it would be like if they were side by side, now I know!!! Too cool!
"Lets boogie" the way Depp says it will always live in my head rent free 🤣
I cried during this. The most wholesome TH-cam video I’ve ever seen 😭
Exactly
@@ShellySwirl I think there is a big difference between appreciating something and hating something, though. Although I can now appreciate what Johnny did with the Willy Wonka character, I'm still a little iffy towards him. I don't full on like him, but I no longer hate him, if you know what I'm saying
@@RandomGuy-qh7tl I understand. I feel the same way
@@ShellySwirl Gene Wilder has that instant welcoming attitude and feel to his portrayal, even with the first time you see his movie. With Johnny, you don't know what to think of him, and you can get a little annoyed with his character because of that.
@@RandomGuy-qh7tl Yeah!
Besides Gene's Willy Wonka is more nostalgic and classic...! If that makes sense-
This probably doesn't I'm bad at describing things..
This is so well edited, it almost felt like a real movie scene.
I was expecting a fight between them, but my 7 year old braindead fanboy mind made me realize not everything has to be fighting and violence. Especially with Johnny Depp's trial and Gene Wilder's unfortunate death. Both absolute legends that will love forever in our hearts, new and old. Hope the new one is about as good as them.
This was actually such a sweet video!
This is so sweet, and the editing is so good! Nice to see something that isn't trying to compare the two :/
I've seen them both.
Incredible! From the bottom of our hearts, this is what Wonka fans have wanted to see! Thank you for making this!
Gene Wilder knew he was going to heaven and decided to meet a legend Jonny deep ❤️
Two leaders of the factory met at once
Headcanon:Charlie and the chocolate factory's willy Wonka(Johnny depp) is actually an older charlie from the original Movie, years after the original Wonka(Gene wilder) died
Wonka vs Wonka. Masterpiece
Okay this is amazing. I wish I could be there 😂 I don't know why but, especially Johnny's willy Wonka factory, gives me such magical vibes, as if it was another universe aside from everything. I remember dreaming about it and that dream was one of the best ever
If you fuse them, you get book Willy Wonka
That really feels like they’ve reunited. Good job editing
Oh my gosh that was surprisingly so wholesome, such mellow vibes. I was not expecting it but This is amazing, well done 😸🤎
I’m sure even Gene Wilder would approve this. Thanks for this amazing video. While I’m not a big fan of the CATCF film I still appreciate it for what it is. It’s sad that WWATCF was hated by critics and even the author of the book himself. 🥺
Roald Dahl was unfortunately not a good judge of the quality of his films. The only one he was satisfied with was the animated BFG.
This hits me right in the feels.... 😭
Me too! I see this as the original Wonka's ghost visiting the new Wonka and taking a liking to him because new Wonka is really just an innocent child at heart who the world has outcasted
Definitely earned a new sub. This is a masterpiece
Willy wonky:Who is u?Willy wonky:But who is u
This put a huge smile on my face. Thank you Wonkas. ❤️
They looked so tired of each other in the thumbnail- 🤣
Why did this just give me chills? So sweet
Gene Wilder will always be my Willy Wonka.
Wonka: "This is so cool, I always wanted a brother"
This is everything I didn't know I needed in my life.
Wow!! This is mind-blowing- 😱😱🤯🤯 awesome job!
Holy cow, this actually looks so good!!!
Thank you!
I’m one of the few who prefers Johnny Depp’s version
The only difference is that the first one is just indifferent to kids getting hurt and the new one is happy to see kids getting hurt
This is so wholesome in many ways. And its amazing! Especially since I grew up watching both films
OMFG THIS WAS PERFECT!!!!!!!!! 😨🙏😀👍
R.I.P Gene Wilder
He's now living in paradise. 🙏😭😉
Edit: Parting is such sweet Sorrow.
Willy Wonka: No Way Home
This gives me sibling vibes.
Like Gene Wonka is Johnny Wonka's older brother.
I'M IN LOVE WITH THE MUSIC 😍😍😍
*I NEED A FULL VERSION OF IT!!!*
Thanks for that!😁😇😍❤
Soon there will be 3 willy wonkas
Gene was all natural. No animation no graphics no AI no voice over editing dubbing. All natural.
I’m always seeing people trying to argue which one is better. Thank you for taking this into a different direction.
Hoping for a part two when the prequel drops…
Awesome!! :D
Wholesome. This made my day 👌
after willy wonka discovered interdimensional travel, he decided to find a younger wonka, so that could help him not make the same mistakes as he did.
R.I.P Gene Wilder (OG Willy Wonka)
Depp's Wonka being surprised as Wilder's Wonka willing himself into existence saying that line far off in the distance always makes me rewatch it.
And I need a full version of the Pure Imagination theme used here!
Very well done! 👏👏
Not so fun fact: Gene Wilder hated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 😬
I like both movies. 🍭🍫🍬
Willy Wonka in the multiverse.
I’ve seen so many arts of the two clashing but it’s nice to see something so wholesome
Just wait until Timothee Chalamet joins the party.
The Original is better and less strange, and that's saying something, everything about the Original makes more sense in my opinion
except the ending. where they flying to?
I personally like the remake better.
Gene Wilder will always be my personal favorite
Tough to say for me. I like them both. Depp took a comical take to the character while keeping his sociopathic nature. Gene Wilder took a more realistic take. Atleast they both did their own thing.
@@DrDiabolical000 yes, at least they're both good and unique. Unlike other movie remakes that are just cash grabs.
