I think it all goes back to something I heard once about dreams. They say that all the faces in the dream are only faces that you have seen before. Your brain pulls information from your memories and recreates it in a way. I'm not entirely sure if thats true when it comes to dreaming but I definitely design in that way. My best pieces of work have come from attempting to recreate something I love and getting lost in the process ending up with something entirely different. Anyways, great video! Keep it up!
I feel like as a self taught designer, this is one of my biggest gripes, I never want my work to feel…copied, but rather fresh, and discovering what that happy medium is!

this video is so well-edited. love the treatment for the reference pictures! definitely i can spot similar designs off Pinterest from a lot of old works and its inevitable to gravitate towards something that caught your eye. But without it, we can never find a style that really sticks to us. Great thoughts in this video!
Good work on the video 👏🏽 Last week, I had someone on Reddit tell me they fully plagiarized my poster design for a class project. I got pissed at first, but then I thought “This is what happens when you put your work out into the world.” One thing that held me back creatively in the past was constantly trying to make sure my pieces were 100% original and that would cause me to stress my ideas and even scrap some once I came across something similar to what I thought up. Growing past that has helped my creativity a lot.
Whenever we talk about creativity I say that nothing is 100% one's own and at the same time anything that someone creates is 100% original. Everything that a person can generate is the result of all the experiences and consumption that they have had, which means that nothing is created from nothing, nothing is completely new, but at the same time, anything that one develops is always passed through the filter. unique and personal to its creator, because all his experiences and ways of consuming what surrounds him are completely personal. sorry for my english :/
Really loved this video. I feel like you encapsulated a lot of thoughts I have had about design and the creative process. It is nice to just hear it out loud from somebody else. The pursuit of originality often deters me from designing and that shouldn’t be the case. THANK YOU for making this video.
I can never create an original design; it just ends up being messy. I always look for inspiration from other designs, mixing and matching the best aspects of other designs into one single design. I remember how, in high school, I used to join slogan-making contests always unprepared, with no idea of the theme or the message that we needed to deliver. I would just go there, look around at everyone's work, and combine the best ideas into one. And every time, I would win, lol.

Like obviously like you pointed out about nothing is original 😂 but I see YOUR style your touch and personal twist/add ins in your work. So cool to see your breakdown and thought process with all of this. I too have been heavily inspired by the punk posters and music scene, and I don't always get to see graphic designers work who is also inspired by punk music so much and maybe that's partly why I love your work and channel so much but either way I'm so stoked and inspired after your videos. Love seeing the mesh of the chaos and disorder of the punk posters but polished with the classic fundamentals

Getting super inspired provoc sometimes a lot of doubt,but I know that even if I didn't want to do it I would do it unconsciously anyway. That's the beauty of creating with inspirational things that touched us to finally bring our personal touch and then share that in our turn

I remember when I was a secondary high school teacher, I would always end up saying (obviously with more context): "Originality is overrated, execution is everything"
what a great video. I have the same inspirations as u! I have been studying for my thesis and I found in love with punk style rock poster, vibrant colours from the 60 psychadelic and the 90 grundge. And finding what are my strengths helped me so much to create my poster design. So I have to ask u, What was the font u used for the "Not Through Blood" and "Pain Of Truth" cause and need that xDD. Big ups from Portugal

Hi ! Really interesting video and super cool album covver ! I’ve Been writting my end of studies dissertation recently and I approched this topic on a similar way. I used a parallel between musical and graphic design, more specifically on sampling and if you can work with a kind of graphic sample that let you to create New stuff with old inspiration or materials. Let me know if you want to discuss about it.
