It has a population of about 12,700 people. It features a dozen art galleries, unique gift shops, and restaurants. The water channel off the coast of Lahaina is one of the best spots in the world to see humpback whales during the winter months.
This was Lahaina before the devastating fire of August 2023. It is a heartbreaking tragedy. Sending out prayers to the people of Lahaina.

This video should probably become a national archive, or at least a state archive film for Lahaina.
I thought the same thing. If they’re going to re-build Lahaina, they should use your video to capture what the buildings looked like before they were destroyed.
YES
Yes it should. All my life and I am 70 I wanted to go to Lahaina and sit under the Banyan Tree. My heart is broken for the locals and they really need each and everyone of us to help them keep their land and not let the vultures takeover.
I pray you made it out of there okay😅
Same thought. There is a record of all the stores that were there and should be brought back. The Hawaiian's that are left could have the businesses. Not outsiders. The loss of all those beautiful art galleries. I am heartbroken. The people come first. The ones that are still here and the ones that are not. They should have a final resting place in Lahaina. Such a tragedy. Your video is a treasure. I am sure you are so pleased you decided to record it. Thank you.
I will treasure this video forever. Nothing left here, but ashes and memories. so heartbreaking, so tragic. I love Lahaina. I’ve been going there every year for the past 20 years. 💔💔💔
Yes, so many memories, so sad it will never be same, pray for everyone there!!!😢
Yes, same here. It was on our bucket list since this year... So sad and heartbreaking to see 😔 💔 Praying for Maui 🙏🏼 Other than that no words...
You should’ve seen it in the 1960’s and even the 70’s when Front st. was just mom and pop shops without a corporate entity in sight. Back when it was mainly Hawaiians, surfers, sailors, fishermen, a few tourists, and service workers. From the 80’s/90’s onward it became a complete and total corporate tourist trap that can be found in just about any other tropical tourist town. 😢. So sad. The fire didn’t destroy this paradise; money and tourism did it to Hawaii long before this tragic event occurred.
So sad. Thank you for posting this video. Maui is a magical place for me and my wife. We go there every year. God bless the people of Maui.
Yes I agree!😢
I feel blessed to take this lovely walk of this Beautiful area once again.
Knowing it has been destroyed!
I truly felt like I was at Home When I was on Maui!
The most beautiful place on Earth!
This video is a historic archive now.
Thank you for making sharing this video!
Bless your heart and Soul!
My heart goes out to all those people who are being affected by this horrendous tragedy!
May all those innocent souls who lost their lives humans and animals, Rest in Peace and Love forever!🕊❤🙏🏻

Thank God you were moved to create this thorough tour of Lahaina. You had no idea the importance of it at the time, but it is forever a blessing to millions now.
Thank you for capturing Lahaina and its beauty forever. My heart is broken for all the people, animals and history lost in the devastating fire.
Wow thank you so much for making this video. You don’t know how valuable this is and I bet you never knew how important this would become at the time you made it. Being from Australia and not having travelled to Maui before I really appreciate knowing what this beautiful island looked like - thank you again and sorry for your loss
Y
This is sacred film now.
For those that have been or never been, it’s frozen in time.
And great video. Letting the sights and sounds present themselves as
If you are there. Beyond the peace and joy you felt visiting, but all the residents that live on the streets nearby. To feel happy and devastated at the same time viewing this. It’s a human thing, a holy thing, to love what death has touched.
Amen, alleluia for the victims of the wildfire in Lahanai & Maui Hawaii May they Rest in Peace, with our Lord Jesus Christ - Christians or non-Christians.😇🤔🤫🫣🤭🫢
@@rosariotapia639Our Lord does not discriminate. He loves us all and the good and the ordinary will be at peace in heaven , while those who practice evil on others will burn in hell , no matter what religion they are or are not . This is my belief .
This is a beautifully made walking tour. Who could have ever imagined a mere 6 months later it would all be gone? Thank you for doing this and keeping it in our memories. My thoughts are so very much with the people, and every time I saw an employee or obvious resident, I said a little prayer that they made it out ok.
Your video is now a historical document. I am so sorry it had to be that way. Thank you for helping us to see what was lost.
Thank you for sending this video on you tube . It helps people who never been to Maui get an idea what it use to be before and now August 19, 2023. I give my deepest sympathies 🙏🏼
My husband is a Maui boy, born and raised, part Hawaiian and I lived there for 12 years. We moved to the mainland recently and while we didn’t live in Lahaina, I worked there for a while and have friends with shops there. I just cried watching your video! After watching so much destruction, it was so refreshing to my soul to see the magical place I spent so much time in. Thank you.❤️
☝🏾❤️🤙🏾
It was a very quaint, beautiful town. Praying for the people of Lahaina ❤
It's so perfect, I bet if you tried to warn anyone of the disaster to come, it wouldn't even sound possible. My heart goes out to all the families affected by this.
May it come back better and more beautiful than ever!
Sadly it will NEVER have the CHARM that it had developed over decades. You cannot replicate that. It's gone forever.
What a beautiful place, and a terrible loss. I had never heard of Lahaina before the fire, and now I will never forget it.
It's truly as close to Paradise that I've ever been!
These videos are now an historic archive of what has been burned on 08:08:23!

Me too now I see how beautiful it was 😢😢😢❤❤
Same. I just knew of the island Maui and not this beautiful town.
Thank you for filming and documenting so well the beauty of Lahaina. You filmed this almost 6 months to the day of the disastrous fires, I believe you were given this mission by a higher power. God bless you and the people of Lahaina and Maui.
Definitely a blessing to have this beautiful memory
My wife and I celebrated our 30th Anniversary in Maui last October, and drove/walked those very streets. In getting ready for the trip, I spent time looking at videos, researching the culture, and learning about how to be as respectful as possible to this land. That work allowed me to have a very strong appreciation for it when I actually got there, and experienced an unexpected connection to it. No grief can compare to what's happening front-line, boots-on-the-ground, but my heart wishes I had the time, freedom & money to pack a bag and catch a flight there to just help any way that I could. Prayers for all lost, affected, hurting, and trying to figure out what's next.
I never been to Lahaina thank you for presenting this recent video of it’s glory days. It was beautiful. The residence of the town make it who it is. Stay strong and prays to all.
My heart goes out to our brothers and sisters of Maui and especially Lahaina. My favorite place to visit each time. I ONLY have great memories from Lahaina. Sending love and prayers to all who lost businesses HOMES pets and loved ones.
If you know of a local raiding money, i rather donate to locals then red cross etc... thank you!!!!!
Look up Hawaii real estate the guys name it's Eric. He's on YT. He's from there helping the locals get help
My heart hurts. This loss is unfathomable. The historical buildings are irreplaceable. My prayers are with those who lost loved ones.
Such a clear, good quality video! Very beautiful! GOD bless the people of Lahaina.
Unknowingly, you have captured a historic piece of footage that will stand as a memorial to this beautiful, calm, and peaceful little town. Thank you so much. How anyone, could deliberately destroy such a tranquil and sacred place is unforgivable. God be with all those who suffered and are still suffering. This a tragedy beyond words.
A grand, famous banyan tree planted in 1873, grown to record size with over 45 trunks! It provides shade for millions of people & and worldwide visiting tourists over its lifetime. Hope it survives as represents THE HOPE For surviving & restoration of lives & local livehoods!
Now, all these human hearts are hurting, mine too, as was there many times when lived / worked on Ohau. Unbelievable what has happened! and praying for all humans & pets affected so horribly!
I remember our family sitting underneath the Banyan tree in March 1978.
We were there trying to recover together as a family, after my little sister had committed suicide November 1977!
It was a very moving trip and time being there!
Oddly enough I felt like I was finally home!
Have longed to return to the Island since.
This news of the Apocalyptic Fire has been so hard to watch!
My heart goes out to all those people who were affected by this horrendous tragedy!
May all the people and animals who lost their lives have their Hearts and Souls blessed!

@@glenharmon4280 Thank you for sharing this as it’s nature’s resiliency from the tragedy.
What a beautiful tribute to Lahaina ❤ (not that you knew that when you filmed this), especially for those of us who never got to visit there.
May the souls that lost their lives rest in peace.🕊
Thank you for this walking tour Nomadic Monkey.
Outstanding video. You really got your steps in that day ! Thank you for sharing with us. So many familiar sights, sounds and memories, now gone forever. So sad. Such a tragic loss.
So many prayers for the residents and all the families that lived in, worked in, and the many who died in this tragic fire.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Never heard of this town until 3 days ago. Thanks for having this video done so we know about it.. this is now a part of history
What a lovely place Lahaina was! It's easy to see why so many people visited it! My heart breaks for all who have been affected by the fires! Sending prayers and love to you all!
Thank you for shooting this video.
People here have a warm hearted as they treated us more than as a family.
Very courteous all the way even in the road, traffic. You easily can get along with them because of their goodness, kindness and humbleness.
Maui is mine and my husband’s vacation spot. The last time I was there was last October. My husband and I were planning on going to Europe but last minute changed and went to Maui. I am so thankful that we did. Seeing the destruction these last few days just breaks my heart 😢. It’s like being punched in the gut. I pray for everyone on the island.
you should have went to europe since the states took over hawaii nothing to see there euope has so mush nice history.
@@PeterFranks-ls5qwThere were obviously more for her to see in Maui before the fire. Was Europe on fire at the same time as Maui? What a dumb suggestion. Smh.
@@PeterFranks-ls5qwsaved Hawaii from the Imperial Japanese, and currently keeping the locals off of welfare, btw.

Some valuable footage you have here. Brought a tear to my eye.
I am glad you made this video. Lahaina was a beautiful place. You did a great job capturing what a wonderful place this was and giving us some history about Lahaina. I hope your family is safe . Prayers go out to all who is affected by the tragedy of the fires. Love from Pennsylvania
So thankful for your video. We’ve always looked forward to balmy evening walks down Front St.
I’m heartbroken that it’s been destroyed by fire. 💔
No problem. Yeah, I saw it on the news last night. It is so sad. I have so many memories there as well.

Your tour is now historical, a memory of the past
Never made it there, gives off a Key Westy Vibe🤗 so sorry for this tragic loss that has affected so many
Thank you so much for making this video. We've made so many memories there over the years. Such a beautiful town. Hopefully it will live again.
This is a part of history. Thanks for capturing this. It's been 22 years since my wife and I last visited. We had planned to go back in 2020, but COVID hit. This shows how I remember it!
The tremendous loss of life brings me to tears. Plus businesses and homes!
Same i had an emotional response watching this video tgat i have not felt before. The gravity of this situation is hard hitting when we see the true loss with videos like this. Entire art galleries, an entire food court, all shops along the road, and on and on. Hopefully the mayor of other towns where everything is built with wood considers starting over before there is another disaster like this.
Very emotional response watching this video, knowing it's ALL gone!😢
That so many lives have been lost.
So much history was destroyed!
Heartbreaking!

💔Thank you for sharing this video 5 months ago. I've never been there and the fires were haunting. My heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to everyone on the island and to those who have been there. 🙏
My Lahaina! I will keep memories of my wonderful vacations in my heart! 💖⚘
What a treasure this video will be to those of us who will never see it, and to locals when they can watch it without pain. Thank you.
I am so glad you made this video. It is so sad that it is now a memorial video rather than a tour video, as originally intended. May it bring some comfort to Lahaina residents and help them rebuild. Oh God, all the artwork lost. History, art, and loved ones lost. It is so sad. I feel so helpless in the sight of so much overwhelming loss.
Thank you for this video. Too hard to watch right now but will ..... been there many times, eaten at almost places and am wearing my pearl necklace from my last trip from front street. My heart aches for the gallery owners we would always talk to... for everyone. Will watch when I know I won't cry.. I hope everyone will be ok. Good memories but we have the rest of the island. 😢
Thanks for the precious memories prayers
Thank you sir for bringing us this gift! You truly captured every inch of Lahaina! I will save your video to fondly look back and remind me of the time I visited with my friend. I can't believe all these beautiful shops, restaurants and museums are gone; and all the beauty inside them that we'll never get back. It's heartbreaking!😭💔🌹
No problem. Yeah, it was a beautiful place. It is such a tragedy! Can’t believe it!🥲
Maui is our Tropical Paradise. So heart broken and sad. We will forever treasure our memories. We got to have a trip in February for our 40th wedding anniversary with our children and one and only granddaughter. So thankful we got her here so she could experience this beautiful town. Prayers for all and what a treasure this video is for so many. Thank you for sharing!! Mahalo!
Thanks Steve of Nomadic Monkey for this precious gift of Lahaina town as it was in the past. Lahaina town is part of "Maui No Ka Oi". The loss of this beautiful town will be embedded in our memories forever thanks to you. I loved this video, and I will definitely refer back to it since the town is in the process of rebuilding. Now it is time for supporting the people of Lahaina and Hawaii for losses during the terrible winds that caused havoc in our paradise.
Who would've thought that disasters like the wildfire could happen to us, but this is reality, and no one can control the power of Mother Nature. Be safe and be supportive of all those in need at this time for rebuilding will take time and these losses will always remind us now to be on our guard for anything that could happen. Thank you to the people of Maui and supporters all over the world.
This was not Mother Nature my friend. Quite the opposite. Seeing that your comment is two weeks old and the government has been beyond shady I’m sure you know that by now so I’m not insulting your grievance. To hell with the evil of this earth.
We came in on a cruiseship but i didn't see one there. We tendered in and remember stupid under the banyan tree. A once in a lifetime experience.
Yeah, I have a lot of great there as well.
I visited here in 2010 and a lot of the memories I have are spotty if they aren't photographed. Thank you for filming the walk and filling in the blank spaces in my memory. I hope we as a nation pool our resources to help our Hawaiian family.
This video is truly a treasure and thank you for creating it. My dad and 10 siblings were born and raised in Paia Maui. We still have a handful of ohana living in Kahului and Wailuku, and friends in Kihei. It's been a few years since I've been to Lahaina, and I love this walking tour reminding us how beautiful this town was. Praying for all the Maui ohana and for the banyan tree to rebuild and stay #Mauistrong, #Lahainastrong.
This is hauntingly beautiful. It's almost like watching the Titanic. Prayers and peace to the people on Maui ❤
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video of the recent past. Now, the people of Maui are dealing with such a tragedy - especially the loss of life!!! It truly is hearbreaking!!! What a treasure!
Great, well done video! I have never been to Maui and given what happened to Lahaina, this is meaningful even to me! At least I get to see how it was! Little did you know how special this vid would be for visitors and those who never saw alike. Very nice low key presentation.
Thank you for recording and filming this video of Lahaina town. I had a glimpse of it when we pass by it around 2002. Now I have a clear vision of how the town looked like. God bless you and the people of Maui.
My prayers are with the people of Lahaina. and everyone affected by the devastating fires.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thanks for the video! Devastated it’s just gone
No problem. Yeah, it’s heartbreaking 💔! Hopefully, everyone is safe.
Beautiful place...
Lovely video of Lahaina, glad I got to see what it was like before their fires. Their plan!!!
This is wonderful and sad at the same time. I lived in Oahu near Waipahu as a young girl and I can smell the water when I at this video. I’m so done about the tragedy and disaster. I hope the residents regain their land and not gobbled up by corruption..
So glad this popped up to watch today. My Hawaii. Lahaina strong. ❤

Wow! What a beautiful video capturing each street, the building structures, the old Banyan tree, the school, the museums, churches and neighborhoods. You did an excellent job narrating and you captured the aloha of the city.
May the spirit of the people and culture build back up from the ashes after the devastating fire that wiped out the entire city. I hope they find out who and what really started the fires. God bless all those who have passed and those who survived this devastating fire. With much aloha and love for the wonderful video you have shared with all of us. This is a historic video.

First time to see what Lahaina is all about. What a wonderful town.
Yeah, it was a beautiful little town with lots to do and see.
Such a wonderful, wonderful peek into what Lahaina was like.
Thank you for making & sharing this video. It’s an historical treasure ❤️
No problem. I just wish the circumstances were better! It is such a tragedy.🥲
wow looking back is just crazy emotions, I was there as many have been, just last month in June for 12 days 2 in Maui, most on Big Island and a day or so on Oahu thanks monkey for posting, hearts go out to people on Maui and their Ohana. The native people of the Island and locals of Lahaina have suffered an immense loss, but will re-build as Aloha spirit survives.
Hi from canada. We were in Lahaina in 2017. Great video we will cherish.
Thank you. Glad you got to see the town.
I’m so grateful you did this video tour. I’ve never been to Lahaina, yet I’m beyond heartbroken for it’s loss. What a beautiful place it was….
Mahalo for this video. You showcased the Beauty and History of what Lahaina was known for. I'm sure the community of Lahaina and the people of Hawai'i truly appreciate your video. I know I do. Mahalo nui and much Aloha to you.
No problem. It is such a tragedy. Sending prayers to the people of Lahaina!
Thank You. 💔 I will
always love Maui & the experiences I had w/ the whales etc.
Prayers uplifted for all those displaced at present, and for those who lost loved ones, homes, businesses, livelihoods.🙏
Here we see the tourists. The younger folks are working and come out to play in the evenings. The streets were very crowded. Music could be heard as the restaurants and bars amped up. It was so much fun to live and work in Lahaina in the 80’s.
Beautiful Lahaina. My thoughts are with you and your beautiful residents. May the souls and memories of the fallen, bring you strength and perseverance to rebuild stronger than ever. California is with you. Aloha❤️
And now it’s all gone. Thank you for these memories.
I am so sorry for the peaple who have lived there for generations.. wonderful video
I've been here once in my life. Since I don't remember much after 33 years, I'm so glad this video is here & hope it remains FOREVER. I'm a little surprised that our narrator didn't mention Mick Fleetwood's place when he walked by. But It's a great way to experience what was such a colorful & peaceful town.
Well done for the now time capsule of Lahaina. It was like I was there again. Thanks bra
Thank-you for this wonderful video.
