My first bike was an R3, rode the absolute piss out of it for 5ish years before trading up to an MT-09. Ngl I still miss the R3. Sure it left a lot to be desired in the suspension and the engine isn't exactly the most exciting, but goddamn it was fun to just rip around at full throttle everywhere. Every ride is a motogp qualifying lap with how you can just thrash it around.

@@drsrsv8884 Yes that's the argument everybody makes. It's the argument I used to make as well. Unfortunately this is an unfounded claim. There's only anecdotal evidence to support this. The majority of the people that support the "loud pipes save lives" argument are doing so in an attempt to convince themselves that investing in an aftermarket exhaust system is a good investment since its for "safety," instead of being honest with themselves that they want it because it sounds cool and could lead to a slight performance increase (after a tune). These are the same people that could have used the money they spent on their yoshi slip on and invested into good quality riding gear, something with actual data to support its safety

I picked up the 2020 MT-03 as first beginner bike and it has been great. 2k miles on the bike and still enjoy it a lot. Super fun in the twisties. Only thing I’ve been missing is more power on the freeway.

    • @pwnzormcduck6546
      @pwnzormcduck6546 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Take your time. Learn to ride that mt03 like the wind. Always wear gear. You want to see what those 300 and 400s are capable of. Go to the track, you will get your feelings hurt on a 600 from some guy passing you in a corner on a 400. Grab you a mt07 or R7.
The little bikes have some forgiveness. The bigger ones do not. I started on a r3 years ago, and now I ride a R1. Tried the MT10 as well. Very very fun bike but I'm a super sport guy for the moment.

I'm with you on that, my first bike was an 2016 R3 & I just traded it for a 2004 GSXR1000 (quite a big jump) and like you said the power on the freeway really lets it down hence why I skipped the 600 stage and went straight for the full liter. Speaking from experience though, you're going to miss the MT03 trust me, the 1000 is fun as fun can get on the freeway but anywhere else I'm just babying the throttle trying not to loop it. I miss going full throttle from stand stills. Definitely take your time with your MT03 it's alot more fun on short & twisty roads

@user-vn8ps9eg3b some people live in cities and unless you get like a super moto. It is hard to learn on a dirt bike if you are in a concrete jungle. Now if you got some land to learn on and some actual dirt, I definitely agree. Some people don't have trucks or friends with trucks to haul a dirt bike around to places to ride when they want too. A street legal super moto would prob be a better option.

I recently bought 2023 ZX6r as my second bike. The reason for this purchase was because i thought more power means more fun. *I WAS WRONG* .With my R3, it's night and day. I can push my R3 to the fullest, a complete lean with no effort, much more comfortable seating position, and above all, my legs don't cook from riding prolonged periods of time.

Maybe a CB300R at some point? I'm curious how you like the lightest and lowest CC machine in the "small street bike" class. If you're ever out my way near San Antonio, give a shout.

been riding mine daily for 1 year, and put 14,000 miles on it. i could write an entire paragraph about this R3. but long story short, this has been an excellent tool for learning cornering and body positioning on, i have passed plenty of 600s in the corners 😆 the footpegs do drag a bit when you getting really leaned over in tight corners. but when i feel them dragging, i straight the bike up, which has probably saved me from low siding. awesome cornering machine right here!

I own a RC 390 and I'm fed up with the problems of KTM.
I don't want to upgrade as I have the sufficient power I need already.
    Since Ninja 400 is discontinued.
I think I'll sell my KTM and buy the R3

I think it's perfect for India. Bigger bikes will heat up and there are no roads to go faster. But pillion seat is almost useless.

You didn’t pay $4,600 for a new RC390. Even with a big discount the dealer wanted $7K out the door.

The brakes may be to try and save new riders if they happen to panic and grab a handfull, then again if its got abs that rules that out.

I actually like the brakes on my R3. It gives better progressive control.
Rather than the stupid super sensitive ones on other bikes that even a small touch locks the wheel and you have to take care of millimetres of depression while riding & steering on bumpy roads. Never made sense to me.

Yamaha has an R15 bike 155cc here in India. The R15 v4 has more beautiful look then the R3. It gives 45-50kmpl mileage. But the riding posture is not good for daily riding. On the other hand the R3 has the better riding posture for daily commute.

Id go with the R3 for the choice of an upright or tucked in riding position I think you can learn a lot more being able to ride in both positions due to how the pegs/bike is designed. From beginner bike to those experienced that can also utilize that aspect into making it a more or less FUN/daily/commuter. Im in the same position as you looking for my first one...after a few years of putting it off, ive grown to have interest in the R3 myself.
