Per usual all hikes are done by yourself without guides:) As a Norwegian we are used to mind our steps... Most rescues done on hikes are tourists not used to go on hikes without railings and heavy safety. Nature is nature. ;))

hello from Sweden, ive been to saltstraumen for a week on a fishing trip and it was the craziest fishing experience ive had. you could see thousands of fish directly under the boat. i had 3 lures on at the same time and it was not uncommon to get 3 good sized fish at the same time. and yes the whirlpools where strong, we let our boat got caught by one and we started to spin for a bit until we drove out of it.😂

Yes, those are for hanging fish to dry.
The football field "Henningsvær Stadion" is, like most sporting venues in Norway, owned by the municipality.

I’m from Lillehammer! Beautiful little city close to nature. You should absolutely visit. There is also an open air museum, like in Oslo. They have the childhood home of the Queen, Sonja.

Oslo to Lillehammer is a good place to start! The mountains around Lillehammer are pretty impressive as well, and very popular in winter for alpine activities. Olderdalen is a nice place to hike by Lillehammer, but better yet is to swing by Otta and Rondane national park. The train goes from Lillehammer to Trondheim, which is more of a city, but to truly experience the nature i would take the train further north to go see Vesterålen/Lofoten. And if you have a few extra days to spare, the trip to Hammerfest/Alta and the surrounding areas is well worth it. Here is where the northern saami people live (in an area is called Sápmi, which covers Finnmark, Troms and Nordland in Norway, along with parts of Sweden, Finland and Russia), and you will see reindeer everywhere, but you need a rental car for that. I’m 50/50 norwegian and saami myself.

The reason they are yellow is because it was the cheapest colour to make back in the day along with red. They mixed ochre and cod liver oil to get the yellow. Not sure about the red pigment, but both colours were the cheapest and for people with little money that was the colours to go for.

Red is also called Falurød. The name comes from the copper mines at Falun in Sweden. The colours are a byproduct from the copper mining. It's a cheap colour and that's why you often see barns, stables, productions buildings and cottages in this colour. Falurød are common all over Scandinavia

Well, Oslo and Lillahammer are nice, but it is not the most impressive region in my mind. However it is not easy to give general recommendations, how to contiunue from there, because that largely depends on how you travel and how mich time you bring. I might tell you, that the Island of Senja is one of my favourites, but starting in Lillehammer, that is a trip of more then 1500km on slow roads (+1500 back) and it does not make any sense to go there in a hurry. So, at the very least, I would recommend to plan for some trips from either Oslo or Lillehammer (or both) westwards to the center of Norway to see more of the breathtaking mountainous regions. Take your time, take hikes where you like the landscape and don´t care about dedicated tourist spots. If you have the time, take a trip to the region of Bergen to also see the ocean and some stuning fjords.
The thing about Norway is, that it isn´t a big country with a selection of beautyful spots, but a tremendous one in which you need an expert to find spots (outside of cities), which are not beautyful.

What to see in Norway? Near Lillehammer? Gudbrand's valley and the surrounding areas. I am not from that part of Norway but I've been around there a little. The mountains on both sides of the valley. It is millions of places. If you head west to Hallingdal, oh and, Beitostølen and Hemsedal, but Hallingdal to Numedal via Langedrag is amazing especially Rødberg a bit south of Geilo. You got the Southern Coast, the West Coast, Helgeland (Arctic Norway), Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja. Maybe the Russian border area is interesting + Bugøynes and Pasvikdalen, which is a river and a valley and deep forest.

    Norwegian here.
Oslo is what I would avoid if you're looking for spectacular views and scenery. Nothing is really special about Oslo in that regard. There are tons of places in Norway with much better breathtaking experiences than Oslo.
My top recommendation is probably something like the Lofoten Islands (My home area), The Atlantic Road, Trollstigen (Translated "The Troll's Ladder"), Ålesund and Tromsø, Generally the mountains on the west-coast and up north provide the most spectacular views.

3:55 This is so American... Oh, dangerous, need guides, etc... This is Norway, we live here, this is our life, we grew up with the fact every time we went outside we had to either walk up or down a hill... This is just an extension of every day life... It's just a matter of not being stupid and you'll be fine, usually...
6:30 That football field is used by children from pre and elementary school and up.
11:32 Those are walking poles, similar to ski poles, and some use them for extra arm exercise and others use them because they have some form of injury in their back or leg etc.
12:50 Yes, in Norway there is a Freedom to Roam law that enables everyone to go on a hike everywhere in Nature regardless of property ownership.
19:50 Yes, that is for drying fish.

    • @Henrik46

From Wikipedia: "In Norway, brunost is commonly divided into two types: those that contain only cow's cream and/or milk, and the ones that contain some proportion of goat's milk. The latter type is commonly called geitost or gjetost ('goat cheese'). Varieties that do not contain any cow's milk are called ekte geitost ('true goat cheese'). Technically, the name 'true goat cheese' is misleading, since goat cheese (such as the French chèvre) is relatively uncommon in Norway, and is commonly called hvit geitost ('white goat cheese') to avoid confusion."

We are not the «happiest». Far from it. But if you ask the average Norwegian whether they are content amidst their day to day struggles, they would probably say sure. Being content is different than being happy. Sick of this “happiest on earth”🙄🫣🫠 And by Norwegian standards I’m poor even though I grew up upper middle class. And yes I’m content. And sure Norway is pretty, but prettiest? Matter of opinion. I’d say that every country is unique and beautiful in their own right. No need to compete for that title… people here who are so used to Norway’s nature and geography would probably think some tropical country is the most beautiful. And take not: Norway is more than the stereotypical fjords which are only found in the west coast. Fjords aren’t all of Norway. We have quite diverse nature from the fjords in the wear, deep forests along the Swedish border to the east, sandy white beaches, high snow covered peaks, fields and tundra… every town is different and so much so that we have hundreds of dialects if not in the thousands. And btw if you can’t go to Norway, Alaska as well as Canada is very similar to Norway in temperature and landscape. They even have fjords.

I would assume that someone who says they have family here in Norway, would be a tad bit more knowledgeable about the country, culture etc👀 But Americans😬 And no that was not a “viking church”🙄🫣🫠 Just a regular stone church. The Vikings wasn’t a set group of people or ethnicity, but rather a profession aka piracy. The regular Norse was a farmer or fisherman. And personally I hate brown cheese on my waffle. I prefer plain or with strawberry/raspberry jam and sour cream combo which is the traditional type besides butter and brown cheese…
