@@SensitiveShellCollector, Alan Lee's art is very different from Jim Kay's. It's mostly landscapes and sometimes big battles. The Hobbit's illustrations is tbf a bit better because there's a lot of scetches with characters

if you ever do read harry potter please do book reviews or vlog on it! we love getting new content, its so rare to watch people reading them for the first time
Interestingly, the UK versions are all published by Bloomsbury, but the US versions are published by Arthur A. Levine for books 1-4 and Scholastic for book 5. They seem to be the same in content though (from what I can tell). Totally different ISBNs however.
@@Herr_Schindler There are loads of translations of the Harry Potter series into other languages (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Harry_Potter_translations), all of which had to be negotiated and approved by Rowling and here literary agents. So, perhaps even the minor changes from UK to US English were also pre-approved. If indeed the US and UK versions have such differences! (Lolmont above says they do).

@adam3797 Someone didn't watch the video .. you. If you had, you would have known that I didn't buy these. They were gifts my then 13 year old son had received. If you weren't so busy being a judgmental snob, you would have caught that at the very beginning of the video.

Pretty nice editions. They're almost too big to be practical for reading however. At least for this adult who doesn't care much about all the illustrations! But I'm sure kids - like yours - will *LOVE* this!
They are absolutely gorgeous! I really hope they make The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books like this one day! That would be amazing!
I believe they do have a version very similar to this with art by alan lee

Great video and books I have all 5 of these beautiful books and can’t wait to add books 6 and 7 to them to complete my set .😀
So sad to hear about Jim Kay! I didn’t realize he retired. I only have the first three editions myself.
Yeah because the fourth one was suddenly plus 20 more
Beautiful books! I'd like to see the spines next time, but thanks for the flip through.
Please create the illustrated version of the last three

@mariacarmelle Thanks! Glad you liked the video. I do intend to read them someday.
Read the MinaLima ones, loved them, but only 3 available i guess number 4 and 5 will be Jim Kays work.
Thank you so much! I just ordered them!
I purchased the first book for my son and this was a nice reminder to obtain copies of the rest in the collection.
I need to get these for my niece!!!!

The only difference like the original books is some translating UK English into American English. Like using '' vs "", so basically not much.
@@darklink2000 Editing the authors words?! I'm surprised JK Rowling would allow that.
@@-johnny-deep-, so Rowling would not allow any translations or what?

With Jim Kay gone who will illustrate the last 2 ?
That isn't a particularly nice way of putting it.

Are these illustrated versions any different from the original books? Are they abridged?
As far as I know, they are unabridged.
Is it all of the content from the original books?
No, they are slightly abridged
They are the full story, all the content is there.

Are illustrated editions abridged versions of the original books
As far as I'm aware they are complete and unabridged.
Do the books have all the words and pages like its not cutting anything form the og ? and ends at the same word like the og?
As far as I'm aware, there is nothing missing from the text.
