Focus on lowest balance first. Put whatever extra you can towards the bill. If you look at everything at once, it can get overwhelming. Don’t take out payday loans. I personally contacted a repair company to take out collections and currently have a FICO score of 790.
Deftones 26 . Hmmm. Judging? I think comments are suppose to be in another direction. You know they are running out of food and shelter for the children. It’s righteous anger to save them. Our conviction is for the innocent. Yep!
Hubby and I can relate to the very high student loan debts ($145,000 for the two of us). We struggled to get away from perpetual low incomes or unstable employment due to contracts. It's been 12years of living very frugally and we're almost debt free. It's a tough road and don't wish it on anyone, BUT I have so many other blessings. I think it might be helpful for people in baby step 2 to really focus on what they have rather than what they want. The minimalist philosophy "love people and use things because the alternative is never worth it".
@@shanetrat9303 lol what state is that in??? Pharmacist wages across the country are dropping to $35-40/hr. The average pharmacist comes out of school with $150,000 in student loan debt, and some even $300,000...the field is ridiculously oversaturated now and many companies are laying off older pharmacists that were making $60-70/hr in favor of paying lower wages. The field is a mess.
Arnie Pineda ....Right?!?! I've got about 3 yrs left and it's making me crazy! Some people get loan crazy, desperate to finish school but once that's done you're hit with the sledgehammer of reality.
This is crazy. I make only 30k a year and own 2 cars both Chevys and paid cash for both. I've put some money away in a 401k, money market, and a Roth IRA. I cannot understand why people would buy cars to put themselves in debt just to say it's reliable and it can brake down at anytime. Saving can be done you just have to make a plan for yourself.
Depends what your other finances are, really and what you call a "good" car. If you don't have kids, rent and have roommates and no credit card debt or any student loans (my situation) you can afford a bit better of a car. $10k in that instance will get you a "good" car if you shop around. I make closer to $40k, which isn't much, but my total debts minus food are about $1000 a month and that's WITH my $305 car payment (0% interest). Not everyone can be lumped into one scenario. It's the people with massive student loans, 2 kids, $10000+ in credit card debt and a sizeable housing payment that end up taking on a $30,000 car loan that need to be worried. I will probably never have kids. Escaped a 6 year marriage without having them.... no thanks. I like money and freedom too much, lol. Call me selfish, I don't care!
That's not so much selfish. Your more than less depriving yourself of simple life pleasures. For instance My daughter has been a godsend to me. Knowing that all the money I work for will go to someone I love dearly when i die gives me motivation to make more. Your actually limiting your success because all you see if dollars and sense and don't have anything to put that back into. (freedom isn't worth as much as you think it does.)
She started the call saying, "we've pretty much have everything paid off..." and then drops these bombs. And student loan debt accruing at $300/month? Insane. I wouldn't be surprised if there's credit card debt in there somewhere that she just omitted because the rest is so outrageous.
My first time watching Dave and his background and headset are perfect for this call, since his reaction to her responses is like him watching a football team that will never win! I had to smile as he crosses his arms across his chest as he's in deep contemplation over how to be polite yet provide this lady a much needed wake-up call! Don't Hold Back Dave, Tell 'Em!
It's like nails to w chalkboard every time she says "ummm." If she's reaching out for help, she can't be so defensive and sensitive when someone gives you a reality check.
Birth control first suggestion. Work full time when husband is able to watch the children. He is his own boss so he should be able to figure out a schedule. And how is she doing her internship for the full year ?
Ifoldthenuts do you know men have a role in making the 3 children- did she trap him or he trap her Ifoldthenuts???Actually it'ssounds like they are married and had children and she also wants a career so she can contribute. Dude your attitude is from the dark ages man IMO !
Are you joking? She's calling this show complaining about the debt she's in, but has absolutely no real plan or interest in taking action. She has an excuse for everything. 140K in debt with 50k in cars?! Elects to have THREE children. What are you not getting? This situation is fatal.
Do you have any idea HOW expensive child care is!? They're SAVING money by her being at home. She'd have to take home more than her husband with her new job full time to get ahead because half of her salary, if not more, to child care. It isn't a matter of "want" to work. However I do think it's ridiculous she went into a huge masters program and has no idea how much she will make with it. There are other jobs she could do part time even while being at home instead of amassing more debt.
This is why I like to hear several opinions on things. Both of you make good points. I hadn't thought of the childcare but yeah someone recently told me the cost and I nearly fell off my chair - it would be better to stay home...also, kids being raised by mom/dad is much better for the kids - can't put a value on that.
We fell off our chairs as well when we started shopping around for child care. child care causes moms especially to step away from the work force. Along with a shortage of quality care. Cost and safety were the deciding factors for us. Its a catch 22 if working and paying child care put you in the red. One parent staying home saves money. Childcare. Transportation cost. Cost of two vehicles. It all adds up.
Yep, single moms do it everyday AND pay the expensive daycare. Pay $7000 - 10000 to the daycare but with a Masters Degree you could be making 40000+ first year and grow your income from there as you gain more experience. You still bring in money. These are excuses women who have husbands that can work find to stay at home with the kids. Which if you don't have debt or your husbands money is enough for your family then ok you have the luxury to do that. But if you have a large debt, don't complain if you are a part of the problem and not the solution.
A lot of what I’ve been learning from Dave is to AVOID CAR PAYMENTS. And here I was thinking to reward myself by purchasing a corvette when I graduate in the fall of 2021 🤦🏻♂️
I make 90k take home and I drive a 2000 ford focus . I did spent 1500$ to replace tons of parts but I pay 25$ car insurance . I dont take about impressing materialistic people
This situation is INSANE! We make much more than this young couple and we just bought the most expensive car (paid cash) we have every had for $10,000. Best books for this are ones Dave recommends: The Millionaire Next Door and Stop Acting Rich by Thomas Stanley.
The car payments does not include the insurance on both cars which puts the monthly payments over 1000 dollars.... there's a lot going on here that's not good.
ALWAYS pay off the debt with the highest interest rate %. I had a used car with a 5.69% interest rate, now it is fully paid. That's why it is important to always pay your credit card at the end of the month. If your credit card isn't paid, most of them have a 15%-25% interest rate on them. Then this would be the debt you need to pay off first, because it has the highest interest rate.
I got me a Master's Degree in tech and struggled to find a job during great recession. That's when I realized that your degree is no certain path for success. Go on Craigslist and buy an Toyota Camry or a 4runner for $3,000-$4,000 dollars and drive those Until she graduates and gets a stable job. Get rid of the cars.
How she do it she already is in a contract guessing five years if she return the car to the dealer her credit will be ruined. What is the step by step if there is to do it with the dealer

I don’t think Ramsey appreciates how much trucks cost. The guy likely has a 3/4 ton working in construction. A 3/4 ton truck that starts reliably is going to run about $25,000. You can’t finish a job if your truck is constantly breaking.
No way. Tons of my friends and boyfriend do this with $4k Toyota s. If he’s maybe bringing home $5500 per month he’s not doing huge construction jobs obviously
How is she blaming the child? Is that a black woman thing, to have no inclination to raising your own children?? As a black woman, I do not understand the disdain most black women have for staying home and raising their own children and foregoing being a co-breadwinner. Why have children at all? If you are okay with missing out on their lives, not breastfeeding, not holding them, not being their main carer and nurturer, why do you bother to have children at all?
So my dad what worked his @ss off, to pay for his family. My mom really wanted to go to college, she always wanted to be a teacher. She ended up just staying at home taking care of us 3 kids. She did a great job and didn't accrue any debt #nostudentloans . Dad paid off the house and retired happily, and you know what, mom got to be a teacher helping special needs kids(20 years of dealing with us sure helped!)
Jon Wojcik . Hmmm I just got chills. You turned out great from your story. I’m glad you wrote bc there are fatherless children who need your clear story to see how it can be done. Encouraging. People are so anxious and competitive for debt? Interesting. Yep!
She's worse off than she thinks. She mentioned bringing in $5,500 a month. The way she said it sounds to me like she isn't taking into consideration operational costs. If that isn't AFTER expenses are paid, they're in a far worse position.... I do not think Daves assumption they make $66,000 was accurate.....
The Paramount focus remains; being able to live Debt Free, I encourage multiple streams of income and a diversified portfolio; you wouldnt believe the massive relief that comes with not having to live paycheck to paycheck, hence i recommend Arthur Winchester

cut the cable the high speed internet and anything else that is not essential. And things you can do yourself. cook for the whole week so you have ready made meals. It can be hard because you always want and its short term gratification. But you pay for it in the long term literally
I'm not sure why SHE needs a newer vehicle, if all she's doing is going to school and driving the kids around. They could easily get a used minivan at a car auction.
That guy clearly hitched his wagon to the wrong chick. His paycheck is basically being cut in half every month just to pay the mortgage and cars as it is, and no doubt he's going to be on the hook for paying off her student loans too. If he hadn't tried himself down with her, he would have almost no debt, probably using a secondhand truck and renting some cheap rundown apartment. But nope, he married her and now has to pay off her car, her degree and the kids expenses as well all on a single income. Poor guy.
so glad i chose electrican over college! been in 10yrs house paid and multiple new vehicles paid off! so glad most people look down on construction careers!
$90k for a degree in what she calls counseling?! Just hearing about the decisions she's revealed during this call, I wouldn't want her counseling me about any of my life choices!
Way too much debt! They need to cheap cars. 2004ish Honda's or toyota corolla. Get rid of the car payments, and work down the loans! They're living like they're making 150k a year
I like your channel...I recently got rid of 57K in auto loans by selling cars and paid 13k in negative equity...rates were 6% and 12%...free up 1400 a month! Lots of sacrifice but finally paid off...now working on some credit card debt 12k @ 0% for 16 months
Counseling degrees are a major rip off and its a low paying profession and after graduation u need to complete 2 or 3 years of a clinical internship before u can get licnesed. She needs to sell those cars and GET A FULL TIME JOB!!!
An here I am stressing over a $1600 debt an heres this woman who's just completely fxcked financially paying for school she doesn't need while being a stay at home mom to 3 kids and a husband that can barely manage 😬 I've learned my lesson.
Here student loan payments are going to be well over 750.00 if on the typical 10 year repayment term. Holy cow and she doesn't want to use her degree right away. YIKES.
+Katrina Murphy It's not that she doesn't want to use it. She had a baby (surprises happen) and is doing the BEST thing for her child -- staying home to raise it. Frankly, I can't stand people who pop out babies and shove them into daycare so they can "have a career."
+j3ss4ndr4 oh I understand I'm a SAHM too, but did she think about loan payments when she started grad school, or purchased two cars. I just think a lot people in today's world don't think about the future with this type of things. I mean you can have a car loan for eight years, can you imagine where you could be in eight years when signing those loan papers.
I know this is 8 months old but she should check into the National Health Service Corps student loan repayment program. They give you money to work in low income areas and I know that therapists (which it sounds as if that is what she will be) are eligible.

sell both cars & buy used. with that huge student loan debt of $90k. her income would not be enough.
Sell off one of the cars and only have one car.
Sell both man
Jesus. I makes 60k with no degree. People should really consider trade schools. Minimal student loan debt and great career outlook.
Shannon Youngberg ya I am for sure. What school do you recommend? I’m looking to seek a general contractor liacense
Focus on lowest balance first. Put whatever extra you can towards the bill. If you look at everything at once, it can get overwhelming. Don’t take out payday loans. I personally contacted a repair company to take out collections and currently have a FICO score of 790.
What company?
People make mistakes that the outside world deems as ridiculous but no one can judge cause we all mess up.
Deftones 26 . Hmmm. Judging? I think comments are suppose to be in another direction. You know they are running out of food and shelter for the children. It’s righteous anger to save them. Our conviction is for the innocent. Yep!
We are called to judge justly and righteously. Judge not lest ye be judged means to not use a double standard.
No. prioritizing looking rich when you’re broke by rolling in a $25k car is just a gd character-flaw. Get real.
I just start over. Regroup
Shie H. What the heck are your degrees in??? Please don't say German Polka History, Liberal Arts, Art, or Communications lol
Them cars will getcha every time. That's why some of the richest folks be driving their same car for years and years.
Yeap! I have a friend who earns $18K a month and drives a Nissan Versa which cost $9,999 brand new.
Almost all my pharmacist friends drive old beat up cars. & they make $60 an hour
AND no one with a brain and self esteem cares
90K in student loans! And im here stressing over 10k that i still owe.😂😂
Arnie Pineda ....Right?!?! I've got about 3 yrs left and it's making me crazy! Some people get loan crazy, desperate to finish school but once that's done you're hit with the sledgehammer of reality.
Lol..consider yourself lucky.
Arnie Pineda 😂😂
Sameeeee
I owe 0$ in student loans 😊
I do not want to bring my student loan into my future marriage. That is for me to pay.
Galena agree
I agree with you
Okay.
I agree as well.
Too bad. It will effect your significant other. Whether u like it or not.
DP- MCFLY They are the perfect example of the morons you see who drive expensive cars but in reality, they are in crippling debt.
DP- MCFLY yes. if you only make 30k you cant afford a good car.
Devil'sAdvocate selfish Jk! But I have bought a brand new car before and never again.
So much respect for Mr. Ramsey. He tells it like it is & breaks things down where we can FULLY understand. 💚
It's like nails to w chalkboard every time she says "ummm." If she's reaching out for help, she can't be so defensive and sensitive when someone gives you a reality check.
solidXmike I agree. Especially when you ASK the other person for it
solidXmike it's just stress
Yesss! Preach it👐
Being judged/shamed while trying to ask/getting for help is a real thing.
Personally it hurts!
she is going to college for counseling when she is the one that needs counseling lol
You hit the nail on the head.
She's not going to school for financial counseling.
lol that true
i advise u guys keep 1 car for now buy a cheaper one just for work ..and your husband can push harder to get more work to fix the problem
I agree 😩🤦🏾♀️😭😭
Birth control first suggestion. Work full time when husband is able to watch the children. He is his own boss so he should be able to figure out a schedule. And how is she doing her internship for the full year ?
Yeah. Who is going to watch her kids while she does her intership and how are they going to pay for childcare?
@@SJB25 why can't her husband watch the kids??
She is going to have to sell her children to be able to afford the cars...lol
$96,000 degree, she better be working on spaceships !!!😳
That's actually pretty cheap; her field of study is very automation-proof. A lot of people will be in serious trouble in the coming decades.
What people don’t realize is the majority of people they see on social media living their “best life” are in the same situation as this young lady
No sympathy for this woman. THREE KIDS and a graduate degree and NO JOB. She trapped her husband.
gotta agree..her husband does not have the balls to say ' get a job" im killing myself here.
She absolutely trapped him. But it gets better. Eventually she will divorce him... under the guise of irreconcilable differences.
Those are his children as well.
"I don't wanna work, my husband is broke. How do I pay my bills?"
SovngardeBeckoned people seriously have no idea.
Ill bet money he isnt withholding taxes on that $5,500. Thats a big bill coming his way.
yep
masterchief88 I
He Probably doesn’t even make that much. She’s seems like numb skull
masterchief88 Those are horrible letters to receive, I hope not!
True.
I just love when he ask questions that makes sense “your spending money getting a degree you don’t plan to use”
"Hello, this is the Dave Ramsey show, please sell your car and then call back with your question. beeeep."
Love when people call in and get quiet when they hear the truth (what they don't want to hear). That is what I love about Dave. No fluff.
@John I'm good. Don't need your scam. Can pay my own bills.
A lot of what I’ve been learning from Dave is to AVOID CAR PAYMENTS. And here I was thinking to reward myself by purchasing a corvette when I graduate in the fall of 2021 🤦🏻♂️
At least she can counsel her children with her education :-/
😂😂😂😂
That's IF she has the 1 in a billion kid who actually takes parental advice 😞
Lol
She need counseling more than her kids
I wish we could see what these people did and if they followed his advice, I’m watching this 4 years later
I make 90k take home and I drive a 2000 ford focus . I did spent 1500$ to replace tons of parts but I pay 25$ car insurance . I dont take about impressing materialistic people
I spend several hours a week watching your videos on youtube!
I agree Tania; He's full of wisdom and understanding. He's the internet "Best kept secret!"
Tania Martinez That is it? Lol
Tania Martinez . Encouraging. I study3 hours each day on DR process 1) videos 2) meditate on finance 3) put into play . You’re right!
Seriously woke me up with these two statement... “You’re getting a degree you don’t plan on using?” & "How much will you be making when your done? "
Does this woman know who she's talking to making this kind of call with these numbers??
Hi Kelly!
Hi Kelly!
I guess that's the point of the show
Stay at home mom, grad school, college debt, no job. My god.
This is the majority of Americans, we spend more then what we make, simple.
This situation is INSANE! We make much more than this young couple and we just bought the most expensive car (paid cash) we have every had for $10,000. Best books for this are ones Dave recommends: The Millionaire Next Door and Stop Acting Rich by Thomas Stanley.
+Bryce Hedstrom bought my $13,000 car cash and never felt better!
Good job guys!
I will add these to my reading list. Thank you❤
The car payments does not include the insurance on both cars which puts the monthly payments over 1000 dollars.... there's a lot going on here that's not good.
My mom always told me if you don't have nothing to say, don't say anything. I have no words for this woman.
Today as a investor and a TH-camr that's all I love to teach people to not make same mistakes. Financial Education is more important than conventional education.
Wow. It’s amazing how she can justify $90k in debt for a degree in counseling.
I love you Dave Ramsey and so glad I found your TH-cam page when exploring investment options! I used to listen to you all the time on the radio about 20 years ago!
Sometime I have to ask myself. WWDD "What Would Dave Do?"
he would say sell it
🤣😌
She should of waited for grad school if she wants to be an at home mom and why would she need such an expensive car to not work
If you're staying at home so much, why do you need such an expensive car?
I wish I had Dave Ramsey nearby when I'm about to make a stupid purchase
Go on Craigslist and buy an Toyota Camry or a 4runner for $3,000-$4,000 dollars and drive those Until she graduates and gets a stable job.
Get rid of the cars.
How she do it she already is in a contract guessing five years if she return the car to the dealer her credit will be ruined. What is the step by step if there is to do it with the dealer
What is wrong with people!? I can't understand the stupidity! I admire Dave's patients and sympathy.
Without these types of people Dave doesn't have a radio show. He needs these types of callers. That's where his patience comes from.
sell the cars, get a job and get into passive investment (forex or stocks) with professional so you pay off the debt in no time.
The family is a big fix. About forex trading how do I get started. Stay at home mom here 🙋♀️👨👩👧👦
I've had a lot of losses coz my entire portfolio keeps fluctuating. I could really use some help. Thanks..
I'm working with a financial advisor, Mr. Lucas Anders who trades for me using spectacular expertise. We've almost reached an €80k mark on profits gained.
@@artonsmith1976 how long did it take to make your 80k??
@@artonsmith1976 ur doing very well for yourself. Some friends have suggested forex & stocks, lord knows my husband is too busy. Either ways how does this Lucas Anders go about his services?
The cars are not that bad. The problem is her student loan and not working.
Dave Ramsey is awesome
I don’t think Ramsey appreciates how much trucks cost. The guy likely has a 3/4 ton working in construction. A 3/4 ton truck that starts reliably is going to run about $25,000. You can’t finish a job if your truck is constantly breaking.
No way. Tons of my friends and boyfriend do this with $4k Toyota s. If he’s maybe bringing home $5500 per month he’s not doing huge construction jobs obviously
Girl please get a job stop it blaming the child.
The banks' family Babysit a couple kids and you can still stay home
So my dad what worked his @ss off, to pay for his family. My mom really wanted to go to college, she always wanted to be a teacher. She ended up just staying at home taking care of us 3 kids. She did a great job and didn't accrue any debt #nostudentloans . Dad paid off the house and retired happily, and you know what, mom got to be a teacher helping special needs kids(20 years of dealing with us sure helped!)
Jon Wojcik your parents decided that raising children was more important than having a new car. 👍 This guy here is sending everyone to work.
Raising our own children is the best contribution we can make toward a better life for all! Money will never create happiness.
Jon Wojcik . Hmmm I just got chills. You turned out great from your story. I’m glad you wrote bc there are fatherless children who need your clear story to see how it can be done. Encouraging. People are so anxious and competitive for debt? Interesting. Yep!
Sell your car before you call Dave 😂
BIG MO . That’s what I was saying. Write it out before calling in. Might be a reason why the call was sent through.
Bryon Miller lol 5500 x 12 months is 66000.00 if that’s take home lol
Bryon Miller Has
The Paramount focus remains; being able to live Debt Free, I encourage multiple streams of income and a diversified portfolio; you wouldnt believe the massive relief that comes with not having to live paycheck to paycheck, hence i recommend Arthur Winchester
Love you guys! Here's my latest little win, i got the WinxInvest recommendation in the fall of 2018 with about $75000.00 of debt this Wednesday just gone, we are under $20000 a lot of this was paid with one income. I and my partner are so excited.thanks guys!
I laugh at the number of those who fell for the "guru" trap and threw away good money on expensive membership and lost trades.
I gain 15% of my total amount which equals to 100% profit each month, very slow pace
Can i work with Winchesters?
+lorraine that's a heavy burden off your shoulder 😩
hi Winchester 👍
+Douglas what makes up your portfolio?
Am I the only one who gagged hearing their debt!? Omg! 😱
That was horrific. I'm glad that I'm learning from other people's mistakes so early in my life. People should stop trying to "keep up with the Jones's" and stop trying to live beyond their means.
cut the cable the high speed internet and anything else that is not essential. And things you can do yourself. cook for the whole week so you have ready made meals. It can be hard because you always want and its short term gratification. But you pay for it in the long term literally
I'm not sure why SHE needs a newer vehicle, if all she's doing is going to school and driving the kids around. They could easily get a used minivan at a car auction.
wow. I see a divorce big time headed their way.....sad. this story makes me cry
Why is that??
Dave i watch your shows every once in a while. I really think its good you giving the program to this family. Good stuff here.
Sometimes I wonder what these people would be doing if they didn't know about you dave!
+Azaria Bell Thank you for watching!
+Azaria Bell Yeah, it's hard to know who would show them the light of way.
Poor guy.
She’s not getting rid of her car lol
Where WE should put HIS money!
wow he is going to pay for it! That's so awesome! I really hope they get out of that ditch. I pray they don't divorce. Poor kids
so glad i chose electrican over college! been in 10yrs house paid and multiple new vehicles paid off! so glad most people look down on construction careers!
$90k for a degree in what she calls counseling?! Just hearing about the decisions she's revealed during this call, I wouldn't want her counseling me about any of my life choices!
Best recommendation for debt clearing and credit repair, fast and reliable service
She needs to get to work,
Use that degree! For crying out loud! Common sense.
Man Dave Keeps it real, I love this guy
Kat Murphy and if she waits her degree will be less marketable
That's not 10 years that's 30 years
At home mom with $90k school loan in counseling.
I know this is 8 months old but she should check into the National Health Service Corps student loan repayment program. They give you money to work in low income areas and I know that therapists (which it sounds as if that is what she will be) are eligible.
L . Hmmm she said she didn’t know what to do with her masters. That’s why DR responded with perturbisness. Yep!
140k in debt and I’m here stressing over 1,500 lol.
I went to college just to become a housewife...if I got a dime every time I saw that scenario, I could pay off their student loans for them.
