I’m in Kyoto now and was excited by this video to see Hoshun-Ji. Sad to say, it’s not open to the public except for special times…I missed the window by one day…ouch. So, although it shows regular hours on the internet, it’s wrong as of March 2023. So, learn from my painful disappointment and call to confirm before you plan your trip to Japan. Hopefully I have better luck in Osaka and Omiya. Great video BTW! Inspired me to take this trip!

What kind of concrete is used to fill the decayed trees? I know some important ancient tea trees were lost in China because of concrete. In an attempt to protect these ancient tea trees they built concrete barriers around them. This caused something in the concrete to leach into the ground and eventually kill the trees they were trying to protect.
