- The Taikan-ten is one of Japan's leading Bonsai exhibitions, with an incredibly high level of Bonsai trees on display. This year was the 39th edition. The show takes place each year in November, in Kyoto.
The Taikan-ten is one of the few traditional shows that features Bonsai in displays, with scrolls and suiseki. But several contemporary displays can be found as well. The sales area is worth a visit too. The best of show is awarded the Prime Minister Award.

If keeping and styling Bonsai keeps you looking that young at 56 years old then I need to start this hobby ASAP.
He looks 24 now....he is aging in reverse
Right !!!! Lmaoo
I am 16 and I have already started it
How did you think they all had 350 year old trees?
Thats japans good diet and lifestyle.
I've no idea how anyone could pick a 'winner'. They all looked incredible.
I had no idea that bonsai trees could be 450 years old. That is astonishing.
ikr, imagine they started grooming this tree 500 years ago. A generation When columbus discovered america, issac newton found gravity, And a bonsai tree was born. This bonsai is time machine
These very old trees are often collected from nature and kept in a Bonsai container for 50-100 years. Still incredible though!
Some are thousands of years old
Watched a video earlier with a tree over 1000 years old, can you believe that?
@@yoink8224 There are tree's in the world that our over 5000 years or more so a tree 1000 years kept in a pot and loved isn't that hard to believe.
*incredibly TALENTED JAPANESE BONSAI TREE WINNER* : *"YAH IM 56*"
*literally everyone* *"what?!!"*
Exactly correct!
I thought he’d say 28/30 😂😂 how the fuck is that guy 56 🤣 every woman on the planet wants to know his secret lol
He probably treats his body and mind like a bonsai plant himself.
Right?? I thought, how did he take care of the bonsai if it takes decades to view the results and he's so young? Welp...
You missed to say "Nani".
When I saw the subtitles say he was 56, I stopped immediately to look at the comments. I’m an not disappointed.
Everyone you look at is a masterpiece. And the one chosen as the Masterpiece of all of them? Mind blowingly beautiful.
You Japanese you are an inspiration to the whole world .
Best regards from Morocco to Japan and the Japanese like this man .
Thank you
WOW! What an amazing display of the best bonsais in the world. Imagine 300 & 400 yrs. old trees growing and alive in a small pot. You can just imagine the amount of care, dedication and passion devoted to them by the caretakers. They deserve our admiration and we should honor them for allowing us to see the product of their passion and for the next generations to see, love and appreciate these bonsais. Watching these bonsais warms and enriches one's being and soul. Thank you so very much.
"i'm 56 years old" Could swear this man is just out of college
i was gonna comment the same thing. My jaw dropped at the mention of his age
I likely would've ID'd him lmao
@@Peasant_in_a_tree spot on.
just about to say that as well.
he looks like 40+ in asian standard
Just imagine the hard work & the patience that have been put in these masterpieces 👍👍👏👏
IMHO, every tree at this show was a winner. Thank you for the inspiration.
Absolutely stunning work! The sublimity that comes from imagining these tree's long life spans, really everything they must've been witness to, is so captivating! It's added onto by the fact that our assumed host is 56, yet he looks so young! He looks about 30, I bet he's done just as well taking care of himself as he's done with his plants themselves!
These bonsai are truly beautiful masterpieces, priceless national treasures. You can feel the the spirit emanating from these gorgeous works of art. Gorgeous!
Well said!
I am so very humbled watching this. Incredible history in each creation, cared for by generations.
Why is it when I look at these creations my heart wants to explode.. incredible thank you
Man the beauty of these little trees never fails to amaze me
Trees/flowers are so beautiful!
Absolutely blown away.... no one is as detailed and dedicated to this craft than the Japanese....
Bonsai is something that is very close to me.
This is because most of the houses in my neighborhood do it.
But what's on display here is really awesome!
I can't help but admire how they've grown it so far.
It is important to take care of both Japanese gardens and bonsai.
Imagine a piece of art from the renaissance that generations of artists have added too, that’s what those old bonsai are
The trees are extremely magnificent, they can be tiny but they are very beautiful. The fact that it has the element of life and death is very philophical.
My best friend, I liked the video very much, thanks you for sharing, stay safe, stay blessed
Thanks for visiting
The winning tree is phenomenal!
Beautifully refined without looking un-natural, respect ✊
I think the art of taking something that is supposed to be 5+ meters high and making it a foot tall and bending it into really beautiful shapes is just incredible. Like the natural forms of these trees are like normal tree size. That's so impressive.
Agreed.
Art ?
@@ritahorvath8207 yes, this is artistry
@@ritahorvath8207 yup
Hello, im the organizer and my tree won the contest.Thank you Thank you
Congratulations. 🌳
Breathtaking. Stunningly beautiful !!
Yes, I have really enjoyed the video! Thanks for posting! I miss so much beautiful Japan! I remember when the gardeners came to my house, they plucked away plenty of pine needles from the branches of the old pine in my yard, so that the tree ended up just like a bonsai!
3:40 That Bonsai gave me energy & encouragement across space and time, right through my monitor, BEAUTIFUL 👍👍👍 So I agree with this guy wholeheartedly 👍👍👍
緑の色が鮮やかで生き生きとしている。限られた環境の中で木が健康であることは、職人の愛を感じます
these are so beautiful! the effort generations have put into these trees is incredible
also, shoutout to the two guys on the left at 8:13 😆✌
These trees have great spirit and energy, imagine the responsibility one has when entrusted to care for a 450 yo Bonsai, you can't say Ooophs I forgot to water the tree.
@@abaraviciusdominykas4584 You mean a baby tree or a branch from an old tree?
@@abaraviciusdominykas4584 most probably they are grown from seed, because u can't get those intricate details by growing a branch of a old tree that you found in wild and also growing a branch from s 1000 year old tree to a bonsai didn't mean you have a 1000 year old bonsai
@@abaraviciusdominykas4584 an traditional Japanese bonsai was grown from a seed, not like present bonsai
@@abaraviciusdominykas4584 wow give it a brake man u seems to repeat your comment like people actually care about it. stop this know it all attitude and enjoy the art of the trees
@@abaraviciusdominykas4584 Pretty sure if it was an already old tree it would not be... a miniature, you know?
Awe inspiring. So many beautiful masterpieces. Loved it.
Thanks Oscar for this video, one of my friends also visited this exhibition ! I imagine the feeling we have when you see almost 500 year-old trees 😯👍
My mind cannot fathom seeing something so very alive and thriving continuously growing for 400yrs??? If I can master care to my bonsai for 50 years I know no one that would care for it to live even another 2 years lol
Glad I wasn't there... That sales area would have got me in a lot of hot water!
He's 56, he looks like he's 30. wonder how old the guy is behind him then? 2:50 173?
asia person be like
*uno reverse card* he's 12
Ever heard of the phrase, "Asians don't rasin"?
@@LuciousLoire i think it's just white people that age poorly
@@e.y.3868 I think you're blind
Wonderful trees! Pretty neat when the gentleman was describing what a Bonsai represents, and them giving you strength. Wish I was there to see all the variations in person.
Can we all acknowledge the future thought and care that were put into making these? Like people 450 years ago were the one that planted the seed for something that could be enjoy by everyone in the future. Like holy shit the trust they had in the future to keep up a tradition.
Do whatever you like.
Id be like yeah no one keeping this up might as well be the last one to do it, but if not thats good
Such elegantly beautiful pieces
Nothing less than spectacular. So much of art n beauty.
The only shame is who ever started these trees never got to see how unbelievably beautiful they are.
So astonishingly beautiful!!!
Thank you kind Sir for sharing these beautiful works of humans and of nature
Incredible display of nature and art
Very beautiful and amazing work of art. A living art.

This is simply art and dedication. Wat a beautiful magical surreal creation...made my day.
Art ?
the bonsai is so beautiful, it definitely takes a very complicated process and takes years
That first tree was gorgeous
That was pretty fabulous. I grew up in Queens and on Long Island, and never quite considered this art form fully. Thank you.
Enjoy watching the video! Hope to make a trip to visit your Bonsai nursery in TN one day! がんばれ!
Was about to comment about him being 56 years old but We're all wondering the same thing😳
Omg, Absolutly beautiful. I need to go to Japan to see that before I died.
Что?!? Этому парню 56?!? 😮 просто вау эффект, как от него, так и от всех бонсай, которые тут показаны. Вселенская красота

He's 56 years old?? OMG, I would have guessed at mid to late 20's at most! Very good condition for his age!
Wow. I can't believe some of those trees are hundreds of years old, and I can't believe this guy is 56!!
i came here for bonsai but after hearin Shinji SUzuki is 56 years old i changed my mind and im gonna reasearch of reiki :D:D:D
The most amazing part of the video is that the guy is 56 years old! (2:55)
Strong UnchartedX vibes throughout the whole thing lol. Amazing art form.
I don't know if I am more astounded that the bonsai is 450 years old or that the guy is 56 years old.. both equally impressive
I think he's got a Dorian Gray arrangement with his tree!
Absolutely mesmerizing.
Woooww..very beautiful👍👍👍
MOTHER OF ODIN! FAWKING amazing!!
