    It’s more important to teach them to come to you, the porch, a target to the tones. They should rarely get corrections. They should learn tones mean turn around. Glad you got her straightened out.

    I have trained two dogs with a perimeter collar, their initial reaction was the same as you described, complete confusion, back to the porch, not wanting to leave the porch for a few days. However, both dogs learned when their collar was off. Worked well as long as the collar was on, especially the one dog, she KNEW when it was off and she totally took advantage.

    If you dog does not understand or recognize the sound and shock after three or four times. Your dog may need a lot of work. By that I mean exercise and training with your family. Our dog recognized the shock the first time and linked the beeping sound and flags to it in two days. However she also tested the weak signals as well. If there are hills or wooded areas, and if you have a smart dog; it may find these weaknesses.

    Do they keep shocking once they cross the boundary or is it one shock and they are free to run? I live in a neighborhood with lots of other pets & kids I'm scared my dog will feel the stimulation and run the opposite direction. She is already a runner & a houdini. She gets out of our fence ALL THE TIme. This is our last hope.

    • @redners11
      @redners11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, yes. The collar should give your dog a warning beep when it is getting close to the wire, without an actual shock. After my dogs were trained, they stayed about 10 ft inside the actual wire perimeter. This is good but keep in mind it will also shrink the yard-space about inside of where you bury the wire.

He did this once & that was enough. If he's running toward the fence at a rate of speed, will it stop him or will he just run through it? Thanks.

    Hello Max. Letting you what you did wrong. You trained your pup to the boundary and used negative reinforcement, instead of training your dog to the safe areas and use positive reinforcement.
    What you did after the initial training was a good approach, but you could have saved yourself a big headache and stress for the dog if you took am approach like I described.
    I know the manual for the system you bought explains how to do the training like you described, but it’s a methodology that was discarded by the professionals since in the 1980’s.

    tip: don't put it in front yard because all your neighbors will hate you for exactly the reason stated above. They charge the line and people that don't know the dog or trust the invisible fence are supposed to know/trust the dog will stop? Most bark every time you go by.. making your own dogs crazy, really sucks. I've seen a mom pushing a stroller almost dump the kid out trying to get away. I just think it is really irresponsible and selfish to have a invisible fence road side if you are just going to leave it out there for long stretches. (at least in a neighborhood with sidewalks and frequent foot traffic.)

    Go one better and just build a fence. An invisible fence doesn't stop other animals from entering your yard to attack your dog. And face it, an invisible fence won't stop your dog from crossing the boundary if a really good distraction walks by ie a cat, a squirrel, a deer etc. It doesn't matter how well the dog is trained, it does happen.

      Stephen Mathai to be completely honest I work for the invisible fence brand. I am an installer. We have tons of happy customers because our team cares about the customer and their animal. It is a partnership between everyone. The dogs life is at risk if we don’t take it seriously. Our systems range in cost. The lowest priced system is 1,800. Still a good system for many many dogs but dogs that are persistent on trying to escape the system I would recommend the more expensive one. Roughly 2,800. It includes lifetime warranty on everything, the training of the animal, no matter how many trainings it takes, and access to our amazing customer service reps. No hidden cost. Only extra cost would be if someone breaks the line and we have to repair it that will cost under 150. Obviously I am biased but family members and friends of mine have purchased the system and love it. We are proud of our product and love doing what we do. We are the inventors of invisible fence and we lead the industry. Thanks!

The tickle level is a shock. Or surprise or oh heck what was that, is scary. I wonder if you would rather the shock be a car hitting the animal better.
