  • Learn how to setup and train a dog to the PetSafe Stay and Play wireless invisible electric fence, a plug and play fence that sets up quickly and is easy to use!
    Setting up the fence is basically as simple as plugging it in, and placing a few flags along the perimeter line. The dog training is finished in a week or 2, and your dog then can run freely without the risk of running away or getting lost!

    Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

    True story about my experience with my Pet Safe containment system. I have 2 Golden Retrievers and trained them very well with my system. After a couple of months, I noticed they would lay just close enough to the boundary for the collar to beep, but not nick. They figured out that if they laid there long enough, the battery would go dead, and that they could cross the boundary line. Although this system works wonderful for most dogs, I ended up fencing my property and installed an electric livestock wire at the base. Works fantastic.

    Out of several videos I've watched about invisible fences, I like yours the best. It's clear that you really like animals and have the patience to train them. I'm about to get an invisible fence for my female Beagle. We just bought a home in the country on 2 acres and a regular fence would be impractical and unsightly, but I want my baby girl to be able to roam those 2 acres only (not far off my property is a highway). I think I'm going with a buried-wire model, but your training method looks solid with whatever invisible fence product a person is using. Thanks! Going to download and save this great video! Liked 👍

      A dog can still go through an invisible fence if the destraction is strong enough. I'd never rely on one with a busy highway nearby. I fenced in a 5 acre property with welded wire fence and kept my dogs and horses snug and tight. Not unsightly at all if it's done right.

    I wanna get these for my dogs so they aren’t copped in one area. And I agree that a little shock or nick is better than getting lost or hit by a car or something

    I just purchased the PetSafe unit from your link! This is of course is after spending hundreds on other units that suck. One unit I purchased had to have DIRECT line of site to the collar 👎🏼. The other unit was a manual unit. This is the best wireless fence by far and your training video is awesome. My dogs aren’t quite there yet, but getting there! (Training two dogs separately is time consuming lol!) THANK YOU!

    I have a similar wireless pet containment system for my two labs. It’s amazing. On a normal basis they won’t go anywhere near the border. When it saves them is a neighbor dog walking by, a bird flying off the property, cars driving by. Labs especially are hunters and sometimes instincts override training. It was not cheap and won’t work if power is out, but we use it every day and love it.

    • @tyrroo
      @tyrroo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, but if their instincts kick in, will the collar be enough to stop them?

    • @mumma2boyz
      @mumma2boyz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      tyrroo it is for my high drive dogs. That’s why the collar has adjustable settings so you can set the level that will deter your dog. The beep interrupts their mindset. Bird bird bird ....beep. Beep beep...shoot gotta go home. 🤣

    My dog learned in one day without the flags. I walked him on leash towards the boundary and when I heard the tone I ran with him in the opposite direction to safety. After doing that for the entire boundary a few times I set him loose (off leash). He got zapped once and understood why we were running like lunatics and 2 years later he still wont go near it. Every once in a awhile he goes near the beep, but never zapped.

    I just bought a Dr.Trainer Dog Training Collar for my German shepherd. This Training Collar has auto retractable and will not cause irritation to my dog's neck. Also I can record my voice to the system, I can use my voice recording to train my dog, say goodbye to the traditional beep sound for good. So far it seems really effective. All I do is pressing the voice recording button to correct my dogs behavior. We hardly have to use the shock setting.

    As with any system it will work for some dogs and not others, the training is VERY important but the individuality of the dog must be taken into account too. Sadly, I have known people to put the collar on and think that is all they should have to do. Of course on the opposite end are the dogs who can tolerate the nick and will just keep going, our husky just might be one of those, we have a 6 ft fence that so far has contained him but will keep this in mind if he ever figures a way over. Thank you for sharing

    • @royparman1498
      @royparman1498 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, people often think they can just get the hardware, plug and forget it... when dealing with a dog, every tool needs training to go with it, and as you say, every dog's personality will be a factor to consider as well.

    Love the video, thanks for posting! Very informative and great advice about taking the time to really train the dog, which I think a lot of people whose "dogs" seem to fail these types of fences perhaps didn't take the time, effort, and persistence needed for a successful outcome. I do wish that some of the many good questions in the comments were answered though. It always bothers me when people post videos, get subscribers, likes, and comments but then don't respond to them :( I am curious if you are still using this fence or if there have been any hiccups since this video with the dog that you've had to address...?

    Have you done a video on your drone because that thing is so neat. The A/C guy we use has one and told me he can program boundaries and flight paths....that seems so awesome for checking out one's property. He has something called a Mavic and it is a bit pricey but seems to have some really good features...will even fly around obstacle by itself.

    We tried this with our 2 dogs and they discovered that if they ran fast enough the machine won't go off. But they couldn't get back in our yard because they would be shocked on reentry. We had 2 cavalier King Charles spaniels.
    On another note the boundary was hard to set up, on the "low" setting the dogs couldn't go 2 ft out the door and on the "medium" setting they could go into the road on the side and front of our house and in the neighbor's yards on the back and other side.
    Let me say this was about 3-4years ago so maybe they have changed. I lived on a corner lot in the suburb...we had about 3\4 of an acre of property

    Great informative video on the product ! The one complaint I have is when power is lost with the house receiver, the collar thinks it is pass the boundary line and shocks the dog 🐕. I suggest to get a power backup system just so the dog doesn't get zapped for no reason. Again you did a great job explaining everything in detail !!!!

    very good video--only question I didn't hear you address was you said you had two systems. Did you have to program the collar to both systems? (I will probably want to get more than one system also.)
    I have three labs and all 15 acres of our farm is fenced/cross fenced) but I still need an extra layer of protection to make sure they do not go beyond a certain point when our electric farm gate is opening, because they have run out a few times across the road to chase neighbors cats.

    in response to some of the comments below. my house already has the pet safe "trench" style invisible fence. my dog isnt trained on it but the dogs that were here are. they too learned that if they ran fast enough or sat near enough to out smart the system. i fear that will happen to my dog so i feel as if there isn't a point to really train him on this system. hes pretty smart. he goes into our trash and get empty bottles to chew on if he cant find his favorite toys anywhere. we didnt train him that. we only showed him that it is okay to have the empty water bottles to chew on. i know sounds crazy letting him chew on plastic water bottles. 1. it makes noise. 2. it keeps him busy and from causing other trouble. so i much rather that than the other trouble like running away or finding a way to do something away from home. edit: also the other dogs that ARE trained on the fence has showed him that he has to stay close to the boundaries.. he goes right out on the perimeter of the fence but the other dogs dont. but it also goes both ways because he has showed them that they CAN go past the fence with no repercussions

    We have been using a Petsafe wireless system for about 10 years and for the most part it works great but there were a few times it didn't work for our dog(s). We live on 2 acres in the country surrounded by hundreds of acres of words and farmland. First example: The dog breed was a redbone/plott weight 105#. We got him as a puppy and he trained great to the collar until he was a little over a year old. His genetics were his biggest downfall. Despite numerous escapes and retraining, his nose would get the best of him and the shock of the cillar was irrelevant to him. He'd pick up a scent take to howelling and start the chase of a raccoon, bobcat, etc and there was no stopping him. Once we had to track him through the woods for over 2 miles. He was never trained to be a hunting dog of any kind, but his genetics told him to DO IT and he did. We ended up using 6' page wire fencing and cedar posts to build a physical fence. Example #2: Dog was a rescue, probably part hound, 80#. Great on the collar until he learned how to stretch his neck forward to just barely get the probes away from his skin and then he knew he could leave his area without getting shocked and then eventually the beeping and shock correction would stop. We tried retraining, shaving the hair on his neck at the probe contact site, changed to longer probes, adjusting the collar size and settings over and over and it wasn't successful. He must have been Houdini in a previous life! He would find ways to contort his neck muscles until he found a way to escape correcting! As a last resort, we tried placing 2 receiver boxes on the collar, 180° apart. It worked! He could no longer contort to avoid being corrected. He knew the beep already was a warning bur now would get corrected by one of the 2 receivers. He immediately began using the collar correctly and we didn't have any further problems with him trying to escape.

    Great video! Very entertaining and practical. I just purchased one of this. Hopefully my second rescued dog will not get killed by my Neighbour's two guard dogs. Question for you. My new mixed breed puppy is 4 months old now and he is all playful. She sleeps insight the house but is all day long outside running up and down having fun and playing with my two cats, at this time she doesn't go far. My property is all fenced up, except for one side, some 60 feet with barbed wire and this is where the problem is with my Neighbour's property. At age could I start this training? Any clues anybody? Thank You so much.

    Hi. I just go mine installed and I have two 1 year old Rodhesians which as you know, they are very stubborn. First day of training the figured out already that the red collar means "problems" for them. Now I can't get them to come out of the house or even budge when I have them on a leash. Would you recommend just letting them roam freely, with the stun collar on on level 2, and let them "train" themselves? Of course I would be supervising... I really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks

    Did you two units overlap? Or 2 seperate areas?

    We used regular cow/horse electric fences and on average after 1-3 "nicks", that's it. They come up, mosey around, but the lesson is learned ..
    Dogs are a bit different. I have a client who trained him and he learned. After 2 months went away for a while, his wife didn't know that she had to charge the dog collar and the battery went flat, but the dog knew and never escaped

    After watching your video I bought this same system. I'm having some issues and hope you can comment....the boundary fluctuates 10-15 feet depending on which way the collar is facing. Did you run into this issue?

    What do you do or how do you get your dog to the containment area, if your dog wants to go inside and won't budge toward the containment area? I'm trying to start day 1 of training, right now it is difficult to get him to walk outside. Would different times of the day be a good idea?

    Looking into this.. my biggest concern is the distractions like deer that my dog loves to bark and chase.. currently tethered on a yard leash.. but i want her to beable to roam within the property and never go past.. but again deer is a huge distraction and my concern is she will ignore the collar.

    I'm curious if this will work with our dog. He's a young mix breed pit and whatever else. He's stubborn and hyper active. Loves people and I have to keep him tied up cause I can't get him broke from jumping on people and hurting them trying to play. I want him to be able to run but stay in my yard and keep him from jumping on people

    In between training sessions for the first few days did you take off the collar when she wasn’t training?

    I pretty much never comment but just had to say that little dude holding the flag in the background at the beginning of the video was quite distracting! lol... and while I'm here commenting (we just moved a few months ago and are catching up on all the videos we missed in the craziness), thank you for making such a great show!

    Do you know if the one system will work for multiples dogs at the same time? I have 4 dogs, and I was wondering if the signal weakens with more dogs using it. Any advice is appreciated thanks! Great video by the way, you have a subscriber for life!

    I'm looking at buying a unit similar to this, but my house has all metal siding and I'm guessing that will be a problem for this system.

    Are you able to adjust the radius. I do not have the same room on the sides as the front and back?

    It took me a little time to tune this thing in ... in my case I want the dog out of the road and not be able to access a ditch. The rest is all farmland so that doesn't matter. So I turned it up to high and the largest range and moved it around the house till i accomplished the road and ditch barrier.
    I am hearing impaired so I have trouble hearing the beeps. In addition I didn't find the light helpful. But by coincidence I decided I didn't want to put this on my grandoggie without knowing what it felt like ... so I put my finger across the prongs and crossed the line. Every static shock I have ever felt was worse than this up to the third setting, I haven't tried higher yet. I went to four and got a yelp #GrandmaGuilt, then I set it back to three, we will see if that works or if I have to turn it up.
    So instead of beeps or the light I just used the actual shock to set up the flags. I personally recommend this method... shrug. You should also pay attention to the beeps as you are setting it up. I can hear it if I hold it up to my ear. Knowing the beep patterns is helpful while training the dog ... so you know whether or not the dog is getting an actual correction or just a warning beeps. Yea ... you do have to let the dog get some corrections to learn.

    This is the same unit I bought 30 years ago. I didn't have the money to spare back then and it was a big deal. The collar takes batteries people. Those batteries costed me an arm & a leg. Boomer learned to drain the batteries and gone he was.
