- Kathie Lee, Hoda and John Cena welcome actors Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer and Andrew Rannells, who in addition to being friends are co-stars in the 50th anniversary edition of “The Boys in the Band,” the groundbreaking play about a group of gay men who gather for a friend’s birthday party. “To get to do it with these guys is just a dream,” Bomer says.

+Nascha Lecter Jim broke his foot. But that doesn’t keep him from performing. He goes on stage with a boot and a cane, and they added a railing for him to the stairs on stage. He walks slowly, and I hope he’s careful and also allows himself enough time to rest and fully recover. He’s truly amazing, going back on stage so fast!
The film was better, enjoy.
Seeing it in June; hope Jim is fully recovered by then.
These guys were great and I attended the performance after Jim's fall so I got to see them help the understudy through his performance which was uneven but good. They were very generous actors with each other. Quinto and Rannells outstanding.
I’m amused there isn’t the prerequisite “I-can’t-see-John-Cena” jokes here, despite he really could have been not here since he wasn’t asking much questions.

I heard a rumor it would be recorded for the Broadway Library at Lincoln Center--I hope that is true.

The 1970 film is a classic and I'm not hoping for a "remake", however, I would like to see a filmed version of this Broadway production on PBS' Great Performance! Also, [ 1:12 ] Quinto says that Boys in the Band title is a reference to Judy Garland - some have credited it to a line from her and James Mason's version of A Star is Born, which in the documentary about the original play and film, Mart Crowley, denies the connection with Garland's film and the title of the play.
Crowley told Dominick Dunne about the title: "It's that line in A Star is Born when James Mason tells a distraught Judy Garland, 'You're singing for yourself and the boys in the band.'"

I had seen the movie - and didn't like it at all. Perhaps with this cast (of which I like each of their acting), I would like the play better. Hope there is a recording of it for the rest of us to see someday.

I love John Cena so much but he looks so uncomfortable here. You can tell he doesn't know the source material or has never seen the movie. I'm not saying I'm an expert considering the first time I watched the movie was last night but like come on. I get he's straight and broadway must seem like a whole other world to him but if you're gonna do an interview at least brush up somewhat on the source material

Yes, after Jim broke his foot, one show was canceled and one performed by his understudy.
When Parsons hurt his foot or leg, the performance was cancelled and people flew in from Europe to see it and there was an understudy. Why not just go on with the performance, Parsons was not the play. Typical.
