Just like the US and Canada TV journeys, the TV Series of Thomas & Friends has had quite a long one through the UK channels (Nick Jr especially). Great way to celebrate the 40th Anniversary. Wonder when that'll be when Milkshake airs TATMR. LOL!
Has anyone done a video on the Canadian journey? I know DuckStudios did a video on the US one, but I'm not quite sure about Canada's. I believe TVOntario picked it up in the late 80s (which may or may not have predated Shining Time, and by extension, the US dub). I know YTV picked up Shining Time, and that Treehouse and Family JR would pick up Thomas proper at various points. I just don't know what all of this looks like, or if there have been large gaps between one channel airing something and another beginning.
@@Danfun360 Wario Percy had done a video on the Canadian TV journey once (though it left out TVO Kids and YTV). However, Thomas didn't air on TVO until 1999 w/ S5 being the first season to air in said-country, and before that it was YTV w/ STS. For the late 80s you mentioned, it was actually Knowledge TV.
@@Danfun360yes. Canada was the first country outside the UK to air Thomas, even before Ireland. It aired on TVOntairo on the 13th of September, 1985. I'm surprised (and quite frankly, a little upset) that NO ONE ever brings this up.
What a journey it's been for Thomas. I can only recall watching the classic reruns on Nick Jr Classics, watching it occasionally on Nick Jr. 2 and watching the new episodes on Milkshake. I would love it if there was a TV channel that aired classic kid shows so we could watch classic Thomas again.
On the subject of the Scottish dub of Thomas, there IS actually a recording of James and the Express floating around..also, technically the Welsh dub started in 1986
It probably comes down to the fact that the standard English version also aired on TV so very few people even bothered with the Gaelic version. I've lived in Scotland for 30 years, not once have I ever seen a Gaelic broadcast...

It was so sad seeing the classic series leave the channel in 2008…. I still had some VHS and DVD releases of the classic series, so I mainly watched classic TTTE on VHS and DVD after Treehouse stopped airing the classic eps
Interestingly, I've actually thought of a concept that if the show aired on UK terrestrial television around the time of Season 4 and 5's infancy that Seasons 1-5 probably would have aired on Channel 4 as part of their children's lineup from 1994 up until January 2003 around the time of Season 6's first airing on CITV.
I genuinely remember unhappy times where I was 7 or 8 and people would make fun of me for still liking thomas. The only way for me to watch it was to either get up so early in the morning to watch it on channel 5, or pretend to be sick and get to leave school early to see it in the afternoon. I am envious of kids today that have all the episodes at their disposal easily 😢 I wish I had the same because my childhood years might have been happier
The fact that A Shed for Edward was missing its narration when it first aired, and not a single person noticed this until after it was released on DVD, is way funnier to me than it probably should be.

If Mattel aren’t going to do much with Thomas, Channel 4 should buy it off them and put the original 5 pre-Gullane seasons back on UK TV! The original cuts, NOT the remasters with footage from blooper reels! I know those remasters feature blooper reel footage due to damage to the original film, but if the original cuts still exist either as broadcast copies, the masters to VHS releases etc, I’d be more than happy with those being broadcast as long as all the footage is correct!
