Great video as always, thanks for taking time to do this for us. In my location Mig products are not always at the hobby store, so I will stick with hairspray.

Great video. Never tried this method as I build jets mainly so not seen as much. I’m wanting to try it out though now. I bought the ammo weathering box for US carrier jets and realised there is some streaking fluid included. Nice tip about clipping the flat brush to give the streaks some changing strokes.

thanks Will, interesting and instructional video. Can I ask what you use to clean your airbrush after either chipping fluid or hairspray?

Will this work with a lacquer top coat over the chipping compound?

Great video as always... Chipping fluid is a barrier between the base acrylic color and the overcoat color that's to be chipped. Some people use hairspray or other sprays. if it does the job does it really matter what you use. It seems in general with modeling products we are paying for brand names and advertising. There are other products that do the same job but are much much cheaper in terms of price per volume. Thanks

pressure for spraying the fluid? I sprayed at 20 and it spluttered like hell

velly interestink, given me an idea on how to model a plane to look like it has been sitting on an airfield abandoned and left to the weather, yet to try out the watercolours but the mule is ready.

I understand how it works and realize there might be some call for that technique, but I still prefer using oils & oderless thinners for streaking and hairspray/chipping fluid for actually chipping.

For it to work the best you have to make sure that its Satin or gloss finish for the chipping to work it will not work on flat finish

Your technique did differ from Mig's in the length of your brush strokes and he always recommends very light brush pressure to control how much you take off.You were concentrating over and over in certain areas, ultimately removing too much than you probably wanted. But overall you did explain the process well. One note: DO NOT use acrylic paint over the chipping fluid because it is too elastic and will pull off big chunks. Kudos Wiil !!

er....but lots of people use tamiya with great chipping success.

I agree, some acrylics react differently than others, and maybe the thickness you apply can also affect the outcome. I'm no expert on paints by any means, which is why I watch all the great youtube channels such as yours...keep up the great work! !

Why not using acrylics over chipping fluid? Mig uses acrylics and enamels in his demo videos with great results. I tried Tamiya and ammo paint with chipping fluid myself and it works perfect!

You can use acrylics for chipping, but Mig himself states in his chipping video that it does not have the same effect as enamel because the acrylic paint is more elastic and will result in bigger areas of chips than desired.

the water based vinyl acrylics are harder to control, for sure. tamiya thinned with mlt or mr. paint chip wonderfully, but with more effort.

it look more like chipping than streaks. I'll stick to oils.

Hello. Do you recommend using this technique before or after applying a filter?
