Swiching to the velvet hangers from plastic also frees up twice the space in your closet cause theyre so thin! Another great tip is if you love the material of the piece of clothing, but not the fit/style (like her sequin dress) make a decor pillow case out of it. Simple and easy re-use. Ive done it with a few of my shirts and i love them!
I live in Northern Indiana. A lot of seasons cross over. Sometimes I really do need the long sleeves in July. Sometimes I do need short sleeves in December. I rotate my wardrobe from front to back but I never put them in storage.
i did this!!! got rid of clothes i don't wear and sold them to a secondhand shop and got $30+ for the lot (a few pairs of shoes, too) I am restructuring my wardrobe and love watching all your tutorials. I love your style and your manner. Thanks!
I have an idea: those shirts we adore but are not using, like Leila's sparkling top, could be transformed in pillows. I made one out of an old Duran Duran shirt I had.
Erika Fiore Don't get rid of shirts from your favorite band. I have a shirt from the cure from the 80s that's worth $400 now :) - I love it too much to let go of it though!
you say to do it with someone, and that's perfectly fine! but I'm the kinda person who feels bad showing my mom I'm getting rid of the things she bought...
I absolutely loved seeing you two interact with each other in such a casual and sisterly manner! Its so refreshing to see how you guys are outside of the Luxy Show setting. Totally adorable! :)
I just watched this video a few days ago and I must say it really was helpful. I cleaned out my closet today and it was a success! It was fast and simple and I finally stopped holding on to the things I just WONT wear. I also watched the video about how to figure find your color season. That one helped with the closet clean out also. Thanks for the tips! ♥
Hi Mimi! I just wanted to let you know that I cleaned out my closet following your suggestions and it has made the process so much easier! No more frustration when opening a closet! Thank you so much!
I usually get rid of clothes that don't fit anymore. I also do the seasonal closet thing. However, I have not had any problems with plastic hangers and I use wire hangers for my scrubs (work uniforms).
Mimi, you're such an inspiration. Just looking at you talking about anything, you are spreading such a good energy around you. Thank you so much for being here on youtube and sharing your experience with us! :)
Before changing hangers, I got those triangular boxes from the cleaners to recycle hangers...and I put the old plastic hangers into them one by one. MUCH easier than picking them up one by one from a pile in which hangers are grabbing on to one another!
Thank you so much for this video!! It came just in time! I just moved out on my own after a bad breakup and didn't realize all the "stuff" I had (clothes, accessories, shoes, etc) and now need to clean up my closet. I was exactly Leyla where I would just keep things instead of regularly purging. I now hope that due to your very basic advice, I can keep only things that I will be wearing/using. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This video is exactly what I needed! I'm heading off to college soon and I'm going to have to drastically reduce my wardrobe size to fit my dorm's space. I was looking for closet organization options (to reduce the amount of space my clothes take up), but after watching this, I realize I have so much that I don't need. In fact, over half my wardrobe just collects dust. This should make moving easier. Thanks so much! Subscribed. ;D
This video came just in time. I've already started cleansing out my wardrobe but then I got distracted & totally forgot about it. So for me it was the perfect little reminder, thanks for that. ^^ You two are just way too adorable! I love watching videos with both of you in it. :)
Love velvet hangers and I do have two sets of them but as a student I'd rather put the money towards good quality pieces of clothing to last me the year than replacing every hanger bc it "looks cheap"
i was starting to believe that I had way too much clothes and I haven't done any shopping for the last 6 months out of guilt. Thankfully this video has made me realize that other normal women have hoards of clothing and continue to shop and I'm not alone in my excess! Thank you ladies. I will be hitting up the shops tomorrow, buy what I love, and not shame myself because I don't necessarily need anything new. I'm not going to proof read this so I hope it reads clearly.
This was such a great vid, Mimi. Would absolutely love to see a follow-up video about organizing/styling the closet seasonally. You also mentioned adding pieces to the wardrobe to enhance what you currently have. That would make a fun video too. :)
Hey girls, I spent the whole day cleaning my closets! I separated the clothes by work/professional closet and the other is casual/daytime outfits! It's took all day! Thanks for your advice. I will clean accessories next week! Xoxo
i'm actually relocating and i'm so glad i came across this video. my bf is a bit like mimi telling me that i'm a hoarder (which i must admit i am) and that i have to get rid of stuff! :) i'm inspired to clean out my closet now cos there's definitely a lot of stuff that i haven't worn in a year :P thanks beautifuls! xxx
I'm laughing so hard when she told us that Leyla was born in a rat year that's why she hangs on to things. I was also born in a rat year and I hang on to so many things. Not just clothes, but house things that I know I don't use. I hang on to them by telling myself I will use them one day in the future. Haha. I still have clothes from middle school and high school. Things I haven't wear for so long and probably will never wear, but i just can't get rid of them. This video is so helpful. I'm going to try my best after so many attempts to clean out my closest now.
You’re both gorgeous! So nice to see the sister love and learn at the same time. I love my velvet hangers and get them from Target; both times on sale. They are not very expensive and make a huge difference. ❤️
I prefer not boxing up because I live in a country where the weather makes no sense and you might wear all season cloths in each season. And if I box it up I forget I own it and then I don't wear it.
I live in the USA, and last week on Monday it snowed but 2 days before it was 75 degrees (Fahrenheit) I cant box up anything because even though we have vague seasons it’s not exact.
Oh gaawwwd wow this is such a strong move. Now I just wanna go and start and try some organizing myself and get some of the clutter I don't need OUT after watching this. Gonna put me on some Foo Fighters and Delta Parole and then I will try my best. Thanks for the inspiring video!
Leyla, you could have your flared jeans altered into a skinny jean if there's some stretch in them. And the capped sleeve "bee" dress - get the tailor to take the sleeves off if that'll improve the fit / look on you. Just some ideas. I've gone through a similar exercise recently. All the the best.
YES ! would so love an "essentials" video ! everything from clothing to shoes to accessories !!! :D will be much appreciated ...love this channel Mimi :D
Hi Ladies I was waiting for this. OMG help me, I have been cleaning out my closet since I moved myself what a pain for real, I have no one to help me, and I know the stuff I should get rid of and don't, I will use this in my memory when I am thinking the same things as Leyla and you telling her no. Thx a ton. Very helpful for sure. I have a lot of work to do in my closets hehe. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. Lv Lucille xox
I loved those flared pants.I think you should update them! I saw a picture on pinterest of a girl wearing flared pants that were slightly tailored to make her thighs look slim, an off white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and some heels. It looked so nice.
PLEASE do a video on shopping for essential basics! i struggle with that since I always get distracted by tops that are more "fun" but not as long lasting
Thank you girls. I was very lazy to clean mine. Since I saw this video, I am motivated to do it... like right now. Thanks again and have a beautiful day beautiful friends!
Could you please post the link on the hangers used? I know you used the flat felt ones for the shirts but I am wondering which hangers you use for dress pants, skirts, dresses, and especially hangers for men's dress shirts. I am trying to redo my closet now that my boyfriend and I are sharing the same space and finding hangers to fit his shoulder width for his shirts is difficult. Also my hangers with the little clips keep leaving marks on my skirts. Do you have any recommendations?
Do the felt hangers leave imprints into your clothes? I think they look a lot nicer, but I'm fairly petite, and I have to use plastic kids' hangers, because I don't think they have felt kids' hangers, in order to avoid weird bumps in shirts around the arm area (not the shoulder area).
I would love to see the next shopping video ! I am hopeless at picking out pieces at the store and always feel like I buy things I never like ... sort of like impulse? or just putting up with whats there.
Here in Portugal the spring and autumn are still very hot and we usually layer short sleeve with little jackets so I feel I can't put summer clothes away, in spring and autumn. How can I work this situation? Loved the video, great tips x x
I like the felt hangers you recommend, especially since they save space, but I've found they don't hold tanks well, leave shoulder bumps on shirts, and bend and break easily, even requiring me to use 3 at a time on some items the cheaper ones handle just fine. I also hang delicates to dry and prefer the typical plastic or pants hangers for that. Since I live in Utah, a desert climate where layering is mandatory, there are few months out of the year where many of those heavier layers won't be used, and it's trendy to have tanks over t-shirts now and wear short skirts with leggings. So, I gave up on trying to have a seasonal closet and chose instead to have a seasonal coat closet where the light overshirts and jackets for warm weather trade places with heavy winter coats. (Vacuum bag on floor versus on rod.) And that way the coats aren't forgotten for occasional camping or random cold snaps, since it's always quite cold at night in our local mountains. We even tend to get a brief freak snow storm in July, despite summer temps reaching the low 100s, but I realize Utah is a special case. There are some great ideas on TH-cam and Pinterest for easily altering items, especially t-shirts, to look like incredibly cute new clothes. I agree that some things may be worth keeping, assuming a level of commitment to actually undertake the project. (That's the hard part, of course!) Note that Goodwill and similar places usually take stained and torn clothing, many of it processed for filler, and they'd prefer to make the choice if an item is trash. Most people don't realize that. I also like ideas for taking pictures of favorite items (preferably while wearing them) and passing the items on, or making them into quilts, just not having them taking up closet space.
+AccordingToLorna I find that velvet hangers are the best for me but for heavy items like formal dresses and coats, I use wooden hangers. I just get the bulk pack of 24 for $8 from Big Lots on their 20% off sale weekends
When you say to throw out the things I don't like or don't fit me.... I realize then that when I move, I'm only going to have TWO pair of pants! LOL! I really gotta go shopping!
This video has inspired me to clean my wardrobe. There are so many things I haven't worn in a long time. I lost weight too and have a ton of pants that don't fit. I need to replace them.
I love this video! thank you girls for inspiration! I know the feeling "I don't know what to wear" while at the same time my closet is full of clothes!
Hahaha, just like my sis and me! I'm Leyla and she's Mimi, and it's so hard for me to throw things away so she goes through my closet and puts a realistic perspective behind it!
The sparkly dress that you like, but d not like the fit? Have it made into a throw pillow for your sofa or bed. That way you get to enjoy the "sparkly", but it's not up around your neck suffocating you. 😸 I have to do the same thing 😻😻😻
Great video! I'd like to see the wardrobe styled now with different outfits.. like a massive outfit of the day :) This also makes me wish I had a sister!
You should make a video on how to reuse certain pieces of clothing or basics that everyone might have, like how to style a black blazer or how to style a white shirt
It's difficult if I go to school that requires a uniform so the "if you haven't worn it in a year" doesn't quite apply to me, what can I do? I'll only wear things in summer and then most weekends during the day I study so I don't actually "change"
Cap sleeves and short sleeves aren't my thing either! I thought I was the only one but I only but tank top sleeves or 3/4th length sleeves in tops and dresses!
Hii again! Loved the video.. Very helpful and inspiring as always . Both of you look good . Pls do a lookbook or ootd together. Mimi you have the most amazing style "I Love it" thanks for the video 😍
Thank you for the inspiration! I just did the same thing today and I followed your advices! They are so helpful. I put away two bags of clothes :D I´m proud of myself :D
This is an unrelated question to your video, but can you please tell me what model your blow drier is? and what diffuser attachment you purchased. Thank you (:
Hey mimi.. I really like all ur videos.. They r really helpful.. N inspiring too... Thanks alot.. It had made so many things easier for me.. N for my frnds too.. Bcuz I do share some videos.. By the way.. I want to reqiest u to.. Plz make a video on the face cut...like whether it is round or oval.. N the hirstyles.. Normal n permanent hairstyle.. That vl go better with ur facecut..like in both ways.. Even if u leave ur.hair open.. Or.. Tie them up in a pony tail... P.S I love you guys..
I have 2 of those types of dresses right now. I keep hoping for an occasion to wear them, but I know that I most likely won't be going to any event that fancy.
I know this is late, but what ages and grade do you work in? If you work with younger, more active kids, I would recommend wearing a nice pair of slacks and maybe a simple blouse. For older grades, I think you can be a little more professional looking.
Swiching to the velvet hangers from plastic also frees up twice the space in your closet cause theyre so thin! Another great tip is if you love the material of the piece of clothing, but not the fit/style (like her sequin dress) make a decor pillow case out of it. Simple and easy re-use. Same here in the Netherlands. Haha, I wish I wouldn't need my sweaters during summer.
Yeah but in the netherlands you can not wear short sleeves in december haha
I agree
You don't need sweaters in summer... Laughing with 10°C in Finnish summer
I just did this on my closet and I felt great! There were so many things I didn't need! I love you Luxy girls! You're awesome!
I'm so happy to hear that Aide:) xx
+Mimi Ikonn this video was really helpful thanks a lot

Oh ya i can so relate. i feel bad that i wanna get rid of things my parents got me.
Same but well you dont wear them so it has to go.
Haha so true
Same! The feeling is horrid :/
Yep

I watched this video at 11am this morning. It is now 3:40pm and I have successfully cleaned out my entire wardrobe! Thanks for the tips! :)
Love and liked. I normally get bored with videos over 10 minutes, but this is definitely not one of them. Inspirational! Thank You Mimi & Leyla

These videos are coming at the perfect time, when I'm about to move back home from uni and re-do my whole wardrobe. Thanks for the amazing tips!
you two are so cute together! your personalities really shine in this video
Those first pants you tried on fit you perfect. Keep them forever!

the velvet hangers or cloth hangers are great. they prevent dresses with thin straps, or silky fabrics from sliding off!
You’re both gorgeous! So nice to see the sister love and learn at the same time. I love my velvet hangers and get them from Target; both times on sale. They are not very expensive and make a huge difference. ❤️
Omg the pants looked great with the top especially when your tummy was peaking out. So cute!
I prefer not boxing up because I live in a country where the weather makes no sense and you might wear all season cloths in each season. And if I box it up I forget I own it and then I don't wear it.
Alice Goldenvalley New Zealand?
Johanna Sweet nope worse 😅 The Netherlands
Alice Goldenvalley haha that was my second guess. It must be very interesting to live there
I live in the USA, and last week on Monday it snowed but 2 days before it was 75 degrees (Fahrenheit) I cant box up anything because even though we have vague seasons it’s not exact.
This was such a great segment, I'm loving this channel more and more every video!
Finally cleaning out Leyla's closet:)
Oh gaawwwd wow this is such a strong move. Now I just wanna go and start and try some organizing myself and get some of the clutter I don't need OUT after watching this. Gonna put me on some Foo Fighters and Delta Parole and then I will try my best. Thanks for the inspiring video!
When I first came across this video it totally had me purging my closet at midnight! Thank you for the motivation and great content :-)
Same here
the dress you wore to mimi's wedding is so beautiful!!!! omg I love it!

I dont like how mimi talks with leyla in this video , but leyla is so nice with her , truly beautiful person inside & outside , love leyla
Ladies, you're so inspiring! What a dream you guys are living: two beautiful sisters-bff's! I love you two and thanks for doing what you do!
I'd love to see a video on how to organize your closet!! This video helps a lot, a sunday seems to be the perfect day for that :)
Hi Ladies I was waiting for this. Haha I loved the video. And especially Mimi talking to the cat in that voice, so cute!
I loved those flared pants.I think you should update them! I saw a picture on pinterest of a girl wearing flared pants that were slightly tailored to make her thighs look slim, an off white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and some heels. It looked so nice.
please I'd love if you would explain why she is spring. I saw your other video about the seasons and I thought I understood but now, I'm confused...
PLEASE do a video on shopping for essential basics! i struggle with that since I always get distracted by tops that are more "fun" but not as long lasting
I watched this while cleaning out my closet! Almost two years old and still great inspiration. Thanks for posting. :-)
Thank you girls. I was very lazy to clean mine. Since I saw this video, I am motivated to do it... like right now. Thanks again and have a beautiful day beautiful friends!
i LOVE seeing the two of you together in videos! and this was such a great video! thanks ladies!

This was very helpful! Thanks Mimi:) and I love seeing you both together in videos!
This helped me so much because my closet has so much clothes but I don't know where to wear
its so much fun when u two do a video together, I love watching you two together :)
I would love to see the next shopping video ! I am hopeless at picking out pieces at the store and always feel like I buy things I never like ... sort of like impulse? or just putting up with whats there.
Loved this! You girls are so fun to watch together. Thanks for another great video
Here in Portugal the spring and autumn are still very hot and we usually layer short sleeve with little jackets so I feel I can't put summer clothes away, in spring and autumn. How can I work this situation? Loved the video, great tips x x
Where are those blue and yellow fitted tops from????????
First world problems. Kinda shallow of us to think that we have nothing to wear when we have a whole wardrobe to chose from.
I love your videos girls, they're so constructive and entertaining at the same time (: ♡
Loved this video!! Definitely do more videos about how to create a good wardrobe, color coding, etc.
Leyla where is the top u r wearing from?
Good tips Mimi
I fall in love with your channel, thanks mimi! huge help!
I like the felt hangers you recommend, especially since they save space, but I've found they don't hold tanks well, leave shoulder bumps on shirts, and bend and break easily, even requiring me to use 3 at a time on some items the cheaper ones handle just fine. Even though we are sisters our skin tones are slightly different which makes me a winter and her a spring:)

The sparkly dress that you like, but d not like the fit? Have it made into a throw pillow for your sofa or bed. That way you get to enjoy the "sparkly", but it's not up around your neck suffocating you. 😸 I have to do the same thing 😻😻😻
Great tips! Would love a video on how to figure out what colours suit you best! :)
Really looking forward to the "shopping for the basics" video!
Great video! I'd like to see the wardrobe styled now with different outfits.. like a massive outfit of the day :) This also makes me wish I had a sister!
sisterhood of the traveling pants....anyone else catch all that ? Mimi and Leyla I love all your tutorials!
I really like this video guys do more!!! Loved the concept and also that you guys acted just so Natural and real
woww... mimi can u plz make a video on what basic dress and accessories that every girls must have...love to see it

*Mimi where did you get your top? I love how cute and simple it is, I would love to go buy the same one
Thank you for the inspiration! I just did the same thing today and I followed your advices! They are so helpful. I put away two bags of clothes :D I´m proud of myself :D
Omg, I was like how did a miss a video!! Cause I am pretty crazy about making sure I dont miss videos lol.. new channel, exciting :)
Please do the color video! How is Leyla a Spring if she is Deep?
This helped me a lot! My mom does it all so I'm stepping up and helping her out!

Which kind of hangers do you recommend?
Do you have any advice on how to display/organize clothes and accessories so that they are more accessible and visible? Great video!
Thank you ! I took some notes and I hope it'll help me in the future to do a better clean out !!
I'm SO inspired to clean out my closet right now! Please do a jewellery/shoes detox video too. BTW which video maker/editor do you use?
Loved this video :) I'm currently cleaning out my closet too!
every time I clean out my closet, I see dresses like gowns and stuff that I never wear, but I like to keep it because they look so nice
I have 2 of those types of dresses right now. I keep hoping for an occasion to wear them, but I know that I most likely won't be going to any event that fancy.
Charlene Jo same
Queen Bethers Lol. I know, right?
I am a teachers aide, could you please do a video on nice outfits to wear to work? ( i have to bend/squat etc)
I know this is late, but what ages and grade do you work in? If you work with younger, more active kids, I would recommend wearing a nice pair of slacks and maybe a simple blouse. For older grades, I think you can be a little more professional looking.
I watched this video yesterday and today my closer looks amazing! Thank you so much!!
