I dont quite understand the WB... changing the kelvin then changing the colour filter do the same things? I can get the same results saying going to 6600k than i do at leaving it at 5100 and changing the filter? Sony SO need to back these settings in the profiles.. why they didnt is a really bad oversite., they should of provided this in firmware upgrade by now lol Excellent work by the way. As a film user of 15 years.. you cant emulate film with digital no matter what you do really.... people just need to use film :)
@@stevef2114 The kelvin and color filter don't work the same way. You aleays have to use the temperature together with the color filter settings provided on the website. Because kelvin works only 2 ways, hot or cold, while color filter influences the hues and gives a different tonality to the scene.
@@veresdenialex thanks. having been a large format shooter on portra film stock, i'm going to give your Vectro and Ektar a go. Ive only ever shot raw on digital and done work in lightroom or capture one. LF film was always drum scanned. Ive never used Negative Lab pro... but may give it a go and use the my Sony to make digtial scans of my negs.
Interesting, I wouldn’t have thought to push things so far with the picture profiles. I’ve always thought of them as a way to get the most flat, neutral starting point for later manipulation. Cool stuff.
That's also a way of doing things, they are made to give you more control of the image that comes out of the camera, either by making it flat or baked and ready to go. Glad you enjoyed this clip.
Years!!! I have been searching for this kind of video for years. Fuji has a community of sharing the film simulation settings and the Sony community seems not focusing on this topic much. Thanks for sharing your setting, Veres, and keep up the good work. Subscribed and will share this channel to friends.
man, i know right? as soon as i got my first sony camera i started looking into picture profiles because it seemed so powerful, and after i saw fuji coming with its film simulation i started making my own recipes. took me about a year to create the profiles and finish this video, so glad people are enjoying it!
Great video man! Originally started with film so this is really nice to have as a reference. I like the Sony system but always wished for Fujis film simulation. Thank you! I mainly do photos (so no idea on video front for this) and I found for Portra 800, which was my favourite and main film stock I used, these settings have worked well for me. Obviously film is different depending on how it's exposed + where/how it's processed so YMMV. Putting it here as an alternative or if it helps anyone (mainly photos) for a reference: I expose P800 film by +0.3 or +1.3 so these are the colors I get: Sony a6400 sensor WB: 5000K, A:2.5 G:1.5 (Tweak color as needed) Black Level - 0 Gamma - Cine2 Black Gamma - Middle, -2 Knee - Manual, 90%, 0 Color mode - Cinema Saturation - +20 Color Phase - +3/+4 R -2 G +5 B +4 C +2 M +4 Y -2 Detail -3 Manual, Type 5 Limit/Crispning - 7/7
I am also working on building a cummunity on my website so we can all share settings and new recipes, hopefully it's going to be ready soon. So excited, you are actually the first one to start tweaking the profiles so that gives me a lot of hope to work on the website forum
watched this video when Fuji launched their newest product x100vi, didn't pre-order because I found the channel of a genius color engineer like you who showed the flexibility of Sony cameras with brilliant methods, subscribed, success always to you
@user-zz8re9cr9x ive got my reorder expected to arrive in 3-4 weeks for the x100vi but I'm really thinking of going for the a6700 instead as it's much more versatile ,
This is great! If you do this again, I'd love to see the profiles without any additional grading or effects so that we can get a better sense of what they look like on their own.
Just plugged these into my A6400 while having my morning coffee. Super easy and I am super novice with this part of the menu. What a fun project! My only wish is sony would let me rename the picture profiles in the menu. Thanks for your work on this. Subscribed!
It's a powerful grade which implies just draging and droping into the node to get the same kind of look. So can't be easier. It includes film color, film damage, softening, film grain, halation and more film characteristics. You can check out the results on my new video
Yeah! I’ll give it a watch!! I’ve figured out a pretty solid workflow with Dehancer paired with the phantom luts on the Sony FX3. But having that look baked in makes for fun run and gun shooting scenarios. Not sure if you’re thinking about making these picture profiles as luts, but that’d be awesome!
@@JesseScimecaFilmthanks! Yeah, didn't think about making them as luts, since you can already set them in camera not sure people would actually need them. Instead, i've made the film luts which includes over 40 classic film colors and contrast gammas, giving a lot of control and choices
Picture profiles are a great way of enhancing images inside of camera. It only takes time to get to know and understand the differences between gammas, color and all the submenus. I am really glad people are finding this video helpful
What fun! I needed this sooooo bad. I've been in an HLG3 rut that I just wouldn't let myself out of. I programmed these into my b-cam and had a blast shooting random nothingness all afternoon. Thanks so much - keep up the great work.
Heheh, yeah that sounds really nice, i think it's most fun when you just shoot nothingness and play around with the profiles. Glad to hear that you had fun shooting with them, it takes some time figuring them out, but if you experiment around with the Kelvin and the Color filter you definitely get some nice results. Have a great one!
i tried some of these settings but not the section in regards to detail or colour depth yet. i wasnt happy with colour in my sports photos because oranges yellows would infect everything. Now with these settings its actually effected my raw file! its bloody good as. Greens now come out green or predominately green. my skin is coming out WAY WAY better than before. the colour is good straight of the bat, the highlight rolloff with skin from your settings here also help raw file and make it look nicer! thankyou got this video!
lol, happy to hear this helped your photography! Imagine these are not even the updated recipes. On the website you will find all 50 film recipes, which I keep on updating constantly for refined color science
@@veresdenialex when it will turn back to its original setting? Because I turned off my camera and change my battery but the setting that I input in PP(your setting) is still there. I hope it wont return to its normal adjustments :))
That’s dope! Awesome work man! I am a long time Sony owner, and just sold my fujifilm just after 1 month owning it, because I cannot get used to the control of it. And ever since I only shoot with my adjusted creative style for my Sony. Hoping to shoot straight out from camera without too much coloring. And now you provide us these amazing work, it really open up our creativity when shooting. You are awesome.
Thank you for an amazing video, subbed. I feel the value of shooting with a baked-in look (as opposed to flat) for me personally is that it forces one to focus more on how the scene looks, is lit, and is framed AS IT EXISTS, rather than as it COULD exist "if I tweaked it in post". Obviously post-production is essential to the process either way, but people who shoot on film generally understand the necessity of getting as much as possible correct in camera and there's a lot to be said for that approach.
yeah you're right, while i love having more control in post, lighting & composition are more important and should not be 'fixed' in color grading, so i agree with you. Glad you found this video helpful and i hope you have fun shooting with these profiles ! :D
Dude, how incredible that you figured out to really take control of all the settings to create these types of picture profiles. I can only imagine how much time you spent adjusting the details.
These are just so fun to use! Thank you very much for your work! Better to do it in camera if you’re working with an 8-bit codec and these days so much is made directly for the web so fast workflows that still allows for some creative touches are so valuable. I’ve subscribed and hope for some videos where you just describe your process and reflect upon how the different settings seems to effect the image. Regards from Sweden!
Thanks! Glad you found them helpful. Yeah, i'm currently working on a video explainning general guides on settings and how i use them individually. It takes some time cuz youtube it's just a hobby at the moment, but the tutorial will help a lot of people, so can't wait to finish it. Thanks again for the support and have fun shooting with them:D
Just got into watching Euphoria the Show on HBO and said to myself “wow I love the look of this show (grading) “ This video will literally help me achieve that look ! Thanks so much ! I’m going to test it on my A7iv
Bro, what the fuck. Just found your channel, blown away by the quality of your stuff. And you reply to so many questions and comments. The fact you haven't blown up seems fucked up. Keep at it man. This taught me a lot about being creative within the bounds you your camera to pull off some wild stuff.
Hei dude, thanks alot! Glad you like the videos and that it helped you be more creative :D Yeah the algorithm works in mysterious ways, hopefully one day youtube will recommend this content to more people, but 'till then, you can also share this video on your social platforms to help spread the word, that would be very much appreciated!
My pleasure! I've made a total of 32 Sony Film Simulations since this video, go check them out on my website. www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation-recipes
Great videos and great profiles! Do you have any advice regarding WB settings to use with these? Can they be used with AWB? You mentioned that you suggest using a lower kelvin value (500-1000 lower) for some profiles, but does that solve green (or magenta) tint problems as well?
Thanks! Next week i'll be posting a video answering many of questions people are having, and also explaining how i shoot these profiles in terms of exposure, temperature and color filter. Make sure to check that out 🐳
@@veresdenialex I had the same question because I tested all PPs today at 5600k (1 light). I achieved almost the same results (except noise values, blacks, saturation, DR, and rolloff - ). The best PP in this scenario was PP6 (and PP3 for oranges and greens - fuji 400H). Using my old 6300 and helios 44-2 and takumar set + mist 1/4.
You've breathed new life for sony A7iii users. Is there any way you can share your powergrades for us Resolve users? Love your content, keep it up. You got yourself a subscriber.
O wow, thanks! Does feel good to see people are finding it useful and are enjoying the content. I will export the grades as Creative Film LUTs in the following weeks so people can download them. Thanks again!
Gives a good image out of the camera so there is little or no color grading needed. Giving you a good base to start from, in terms or color and contrast. S-log3 will give you the most flexibility in post, but sometimes you don't have time to color grade, or there is no budget for anything fancy.
That’s understandable, but the colors in your video is absolutely beautiful! Even with color grading on resolve at xdr 1600 nits, it’s a quite difficult, there’s too many parameters, lol! For one, the right exposure, I’m experimenting with going from +2 on the metering to +1 or 0 just so I can get the most dynamics on skin tone to grade, seems like there’s a little bit to it’s curves! But thanks to you, I’m really excited to adjust temp and in body color adjustments again, so thank you!!!
Yeah they are really fun to work with, i initially made them for myself, and after 8 months of experimenting and testing, i wanted to share these profiles with everybody. In total this project took me about a whole year with shooting and editing it as well, so i'm really glad people are liking it. Thanks for watching, in about two weeks i'll come back with another video on how i expose, set color filter on each profile and how to use the creative LUTs more efficiently, so don't forget about that. Have a great one!
pls a explanation video about the settings names... knee, gamma, etc.. Thank you for this video, i'm also playing around with the settings to make my recipes. But still figuring out so much
Been searching for film simulation for Sony camera cuz i really love the color of kodachrome and thanks god i finally found your channel. Thank you for your magnificent work and hope to see more videos from you. Instantly subbed for sure~
wow, thank you! smiled. yeah, this week i'll be posting a video on how to get fujifilm eterna simulation on sony cameras. It's an amazing profile that renders beautiful colors and it might be my favorite until now. I think it will be done by wednesday. Make sure to check it out!
Good question! Honestly not quite sure, but i would have to make some comparison testing with the color checker to try emulate it, anyways you would still have to post process it to enhance the colors because i feel cinestill 800t is quite a complex and unique film stock.
You can use them only as Picture profile inside camera, and they will give you better color than sony factory settings, but to get the same results and get closer to the film look you will need the Creative Film Power Grades.
3:33 are you adding halation / glow in post? Or is it a black mist filter? or is that all done in the PP? your fuji400h blew my mind, wow! Also, how did you do that shot at 3:35, did you walk with a gimbal and then point up, and speed up the tunnel part? Gorgeous.
Adding halation in post yeah :D unfortunately can't get that out of camera. And yeah that's exactly how i did it, i remember my hands were freezing cuz we were shooting for couple hours that day in near freezing temperature. So yeah, thanks:{ warms up my heart receiving comments like this
I bought a sony a7c, I already configured everything like your video but I don't know how to configure the V/H balance, WB balance, limit, crispning and hi light detail.... if you could help me with that I would really appreciate it I love your channel
Go to PP scroll down to detail, hit ok, hit adjust and you can see the whole menu there. For the WB don't know how different your menu system is from mine, but WB menu should be in the Picture Icon at page 12
Hey bro, love the video and the film emulations you've made. I've I've a quick question, the luts you're selling on your site what exactly are they? Are they the same as this without us having to input the settings or is it different? Would love to know. And what exact profile are these considered under is it slog 3 or something totally different? Would love to know as I love the looks you've achieved just want to know more (the 40 lut pack). Cheers bro. You earned a new subscriber!
The Creative LUTs are different than these film profiles, and made for any camera footage. Usually luts are very limiting and don't offer control over the image, i made the Creative Luts so that you can easily adjust contrst, color and halation without distroying the image and much more versatile than regular luts.
Some of them are out of camera, some of them slightly edited. somewhere at the end, i recon minute 8, I have a Chapter with the before and after of a couple clips. very minor adjustments anyhow

Hi i am a beginner and going buy my first camera next month, I've been dead set on buying xs20 for a long time but recently i saw reviews telling autofocus and ibis are much better on sony so started watching sony a6700 reviews. The one thing that's kinda confusing me is, are the film simulations in the camera like fuji OR do we have to edit these later?
They are in camera recipes and they are applied only to the JPEGs so you don't have to edit them later unless you want to enhance them even further. For the raw you will need to post process them to color match with the JPEG, I've prepared presets to easily match them with your a6700. Check it out www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation
Thank you so much, I'll be buying your presets in a few months once i get hands on my 1st camera and get used to it a bit. Also can you share your views on comparison between xs20 and a6700?
I really like the mood of this video, nice shots and lovely color manipulation SIR. Can I ask which one do you recommend for biking scenes in the nature, especially in forest where there is a bit less light? Cheers!
Thank you so much! EvPro+Night for most flexibility in grading, Ektar 100 or Blue Velvet-Cinestill50D would render beautiful green colors and earthy skintones
Great question, and yes they do! I've posted some sample temperature settings in the pinned comment. Try those out! Of course, at the beginning I was going by the feel of it, changing them all the time on the spot depending on what kind of colors I saw and how I wanted to influence the overall colors to cut post-processing as much as possible straight out of camera. So initially I didn't include any kelvin temperature settings in the video, but I quickly realized people needed some guidance to start with. So later on I decided to settle on a certain look for each film simulation, and gave sample temperature settings for the kelvin and color filter to help starters get similar colors to what I was getting on the Blog www.veresdenialex.com/post/sony-film-simulations-recipes-best-sony-picture-profiles
@@veresdenialex Yeah, I just noticed the suggestions after writing that 😅 Anyways, great stuff, thanks! Just put these in this morning and have just tested them indoors, but can already see me doing less in post.
Hey Alex, I have a question, I realized the color science on the A7iv is different from the A7iii, do you think it will be significantly different if I used these on the a7iv? asking because I own the a7iv lol
You know, with each new sony camera the color has changed and improved, so definitely will be a little difference, but remember my clips are 8bit and the color is fine, so the 10bit footage on the a7iv it's going to look even better. Feel welcome to try them out and let us know how they work. Hopes this helped :D

hi۔it has been long time to trying to get some nice effect۔you really made a helpfull vdo۔ but i need to ask you while setting this what should be iso۔
Hey man these are great! I do have a question about post in DaVinci: do they require a colour managed space or a CST node? Which colour space/gamma would these require?
Use CST and adjust saturation, hue on your liking. After translating them to rec709 some profiles might look too pink or too saturated, so it needs to be toned down in post processing
@@veresdenialex what color space/input gamma would you recommend? The CST node effect appears to be geared towards LOG profiles for Sony cameras as it only contains sgamut/sgamut3/sgamut3cine color spaces for Sony and slog/slog2/slog3 gammas. Even setting up your project as a color managed space I run into the same issue 😵💫
@@deathwaits1613 well, not all color spaces needs conversion, for example pro color, is actually a small color space which does not need translation to rec709 because it's very very close to it. Usually you need the conversion to rec709 with big color spaces for accurate color reproduction, like s gamut, to translate them to your monitor screen and render accurate colors. You don't need that with small color spaces like Still, Movie, Pro and so on. You need to use it on Bigger spaces like cinema, bt2020, s-gamut to come closer to how colors will actually look like. use the cst to convert the color if the film simulation uses a wide color space like s-gamut and so on. You can also choose to convert the input gamma if it uses something flat like HLG or Log, but it's not needed for Gammas like Still Movie Cine1 which are already very contrasty. just grade it manually with your preferred tools, like the primaries wheels or curves.
@@deathwaits1613 also, always translate the color to your monitor, or the final medium (theatre, tv's, where ever it will be watched) meaning if you use Portra 800, which uses Cinema color space (DCI-P3) and you use a monitor which can render DCI-P3, then you don't necessary need translation, because you can see the accurate colors on your screen.
How many hours of investment to test with the values? Thank you very much for this, I had been using a lot of HGL 3, and then I do color in davinci. Tomorrow I use it for a job. Greetings from Paraguay, you made a great contribution to all sony users ♥
Evpro+ is my all time fav for anykind of project, or portra800 for well lit situations. Currently testing the portra profile in lowlight to see how much we can push the limits. Remember to check that out when is out!

@@veresdenialex yup subcribed!! Im just kinda confused because im not getting the result? But i kinda get it since you said that it need some softer contradt and vector100? Is needed to apply for the fooatge to get the look that you are posting. Love the vids bro!!!
@@pjmadd first of all most of the footage is graded at least a little, the film profiles give a good base for that, but LUTs are coming soon 🙂 i also used the color filter to get more of what i want, but how it renders the colors depends very much on the lighting conditions and what colors you have in the shot. you need to shoot in similar situations like i did if you want to get similar results.
Love this video bro, gonna use these forsure. Especially love the EVpro! One quick question tho, when it comes white balance..you recommend to just increase it towards the color you are shooting/want? (for creative artsy projects haha)
Most of the time yeah, bring it as close to the colors you imagined the story in. If you don't have a story, then choose correct temperature. Color grading is the last part in the post processing, but I usually think about every aspect before hand to be sure i have every piece of gear i need, so of course i try to inagine the set and setting, and what mood i want for each video
I usually tweak it, i have sample settimgs on my website on my Sony Film simulation page. It costs 5$ per year and you have access to all 21 Updated film simularion settings. Try it out, it will help you
Just stumbled upon this and I'm glad I did. I recently bought a Sony camera. Does this film profiles work for still photography or strictly for videos only? Thanks for your work!
It works for both video and photo modes, but for photos it will be baked only in the JPEG. The Raw file cannot contain the picture profile information and need color matching. That's why I created the RAW presets www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation
I have a ZV-E1, and in PP6, I don't have S-Log2 available in the gamma mode. How can I achieve a Portra 800 look without using S-Log2. And in pp1 for Vektro 100 the s- gamut is not avalable in colour mode. I have same problem here. :/
You can use S-log3, it's similar but much flatter. You will need to correct the contrast afterwards. Use S-gamut3 instead of S-Gamut, they are very similar.
Would you recommend using a fixed ISO? For example, when using Kodak Portra 800, only shoot in 800 ISO. or Auto ISO or higher should be right? do you have a Max ISO to recommend?
It applies to Video & JPEGs images. For raw photos you can use these presets to match with the in camera JPEG look. www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing, subbed. I am a Sony user but I prefer Fuji film simulation. These settings gave me a whole new feel to my camera.
Forgive me for asking what’s probably a stupid question, but do we just change our settings in picture profile to achieve this look? I just got an A7iii and pretty new to this. Is there anything else that i have to change?
These look amazing! Thank you for offering them for free, these looks inspire me to go out with friends and make some vibey imagery :P I instantly assumed these would be some 80 dollar lut pack, really cool that they're custom picture profiles in camera! I'll give all of these a go on my sony a7iv, thank you!
All in camera, you can def save them on the rx100 vii, I have the rx100 vi. You need to find the picture profile inside the menu. Here is a video, go at minute 11.45 th-cam.com/video/1evvPAs_xYU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bnWs5GDNt30pvd1S
These are amazing!! Recently got a Sony RX100iii and am wondering how to implement these settings? I can’t seem to figure it all out. Where do I change these? Thanks!
I'm curious, do you have s-log assist on auto when you have these? I find it helps with some of these profiles because with it off, it looks odd on some. Asking because my company purchased an A7IV and I find the standard picture profiles on Sony's very boring, because I normally shoot on Fuji and those sims are amazing. But after seeing this video, there is yet hope!
Turn off assist. Assist should only help convert S-log and HLG to rec709 on screen, shouldn't work with any other gamma. And if you leave it on while using these recipes, they might look overly saturated. I always leave assist off, even when using traditional S-log3 with sgamut3.cine, because like this, I can actually see how much detail I have in highlights and shadows, while with the rec709 look, I don't actually realize how much data I've lost on both ends. You need to use the custom settings from the Pinned comment. Just like Fuji, each sony film simulation was designed to be used with the Color settings in order to get the best results. Check out this playlist for the basics, th-cam.com/play/PL-gfcmjtW3nup_6nXvu8JTn3obVpU2-o-.html&si=rv0vwEauDuwedcyD
Bro this is great. I just switched from Canon to Sony and bought a Sony A9, mostly for sports but will film my TH-cam off-roading videos with it. Does the A9 let me change all of these settings to create these looks? Sorry, I don’t have the camera yet as it is being shipped. Thanks! - Geoff
Hei, glad you like it. Usually the picture profile menu is a feature for hybrid cameras, and the a9 is a photo oriented camera, so I doubt it. But since the new a7R V has the Picture Profile Menu included, and the new demand for all cameras to be hybrid, I believe Sony might add it to all their newer camera models
Hey guys, quick question. Whats the benefit of directly filming with these profiles and not adding a LUT with that specific look later in post? If you add it in post i think you can change the settings easier and switch to completely different looks if you later on decide on another look. Let me know, im really interested!
This is interesting for those who shoot in 8 bit H.264, in low light, where log profiles are often not good. The margin of correction of the log profile in this case is low, appearance of compression artifact, noise...
Simon is right, 8Bit Log in lowlight is not very forgiving, but normally you wouldn't use Log in lowlight, because you don't need 16 stops dynamic range and other gammas will give enough flexibility in post with better noise ratio. Using profiles like Evpro+ which is based on Cine1 will give you better lowlight performance while offering a flat profile. On professional shoots you would go with the profile that give you most flexibility in grading, because you are not responsible on how the footage will be graded, but on smaller video or photo projects there is a clear advantage in shooting baked in if you aare not experinced incolor grading or just don't have time to do it because the project is paid less. Last weekend shot about 1500 pics at a friends party, and i had no time to edit the pictures, but i knew these profiles offer really nice image out of the box, so i just sent them the jpegs and they look great without me spending hours post processing. :D hope this helps you out and have fun shooting
Anyways all footage from this video was further color graded to push it even closer to the film look with the help of the Creative LUTs, which only proves that you still have room for color grading even with baked in profiles. If you are interested in the Creative LUTs you can check them on my website, link in description.
I've tried them all. EvPro+ is my fave, amazing in lowlight, and the colors are awesome, also the dynamic range increases. I've never saw anything like this unique straight out of my sony cam so thanks! Btw how do you add that golden chromatic abberation? That is what im exactly looking for
Thanks! Glad you like them, i've made a total of 40 sony film simulations, you can check em out on my website. www.veresdenialex.com The glowing red halation you mean? I have a couple videos on my channel, check my second latest for a tutorial in Davinci
@@veresdenialex What i meant is there are green or magenta chromatic abberations around the objects, (depending on the lens and contrasty situations) which can be removed in post production. What im trying to do is to replace it with orangish-gold color, for example at 4:08. I guess it might be another halation but not red.
For evPro + would the daytime be better for indoor lowlight use ? Do u mess with the temperature filter on this one as well , really appreciate this video man 🙏
For most dynamic range indoor choose nighttime, for best out of camera choose daytime. I mess with the temperature and the color filter on all of them. I pinned one comment where I included some color adjustments for each of these, it should be the top comment from me
Hey Veres I bought the course for the film recipes but one question I have is what pp do they go into ? Like example Fortia 50 what pp would that go in on the camera ?

Hi! Firstly, thank you so much for this video. It will be magic to shoot these colors! I have a doubt, I used to be a DSLR shooter so still adapting to the system. I did the settings exactly as you mentioned, i couldnt spot any noticeable change. Am i Missing something or doing something wrong? I ofcourse understand the basic Exposure triangle settings need to be updated too, but the color and texture are not changing considerably. Would really appreciate if someone could suggest what is wrong or missing!
Check my pinned comment, there are some sample color settings meant for each of them. The film simulations are designed to work in combination with those settings to work properly. The color settings will start shifting colors in different directions. It's just like in camera editing. From there you expose in accordance to your style. I generally tend to underexpose for a moody look. Also please go at minute 7 or so, where i explain these shots have been further color graded to get even more out of the footage

I dont quite understand the WB... changing the kelvin then changing the colour filter do the same things?
I can get the same results saying going to 6600k than i do at leaving it at 5100 and changing the filter?
Sony SO need to back these settings in the profiles.. why they didnt is a really bad oversite., they should of provided this in firmware upgrade by now lol
Excellent work by the way.
Subscribed and will share this channel to friends.
man, i know right? as soon as i got my first sony camera i started looking into picture profiles because it seemed so powerful, and after i saw fuji coming with its film simulation i started making my own recipes. took me about a year to create the profiles and finish this video, so glad people are enjoying it!
also, i made some update on the profiles, will make a video about it soon
Great video man! Originally started with film so this is really nice to have as a reference. I like the Sony system but always wished for Fujis film simulation. Thank you!
I mainly do photos (so no idea on video front for this) and I found for Portra 800, which was my favourite and main film stock I used, these settings have worked well for me. Obviously film is different depending on how it's exposed + where/how it's processed so YMMV. Putting it here as an alternative or if it helps anyone (mainly photos) for a reference:
I expose P800 film by +0.3 or +1.3 so these are the colors I get:
Sony a6400 sensor
WB: 5000K, A:2.5 G:1.5 (Tweak color as needed)
Black Level - 0
Gamma - Cine2
Black Gamma - Middle, -2
Knee - Manual, 90%, 0
Color mode - Cinema
Saturation - +20
Color Phase - +3/+4
R -2
G +5
B +4
C +2
M +4
Y -2
Detail -3
Manual, Type 5
Limit/Crispning - 7/7
These are also really good settings if you want less noise together with a lower base iso
I am also working on building a cummunity on my website so we can all share settings and new recipes, hopefully it's going to be ready soon. So excited, you are actually the first one to start tweaking the profiles so that gives me a lot of hope to work on the website forum

I don’t think you realize how fantastic this is. This combined with Dehancer’s halation, bloom, and grain makes for some some super easy post flow.
Wow, thanks a lot, heheh. I just made a film powergrade called 8mm Home Film, check it out
It's a powerful grade which implies just draging and droping into the node to get the same kind of look.

Greens now come out green or predominately green. my skin is coming out WAY WAY better than before. the colour is good straight of the bat, the highlight rolloff with skin from your settings here also help raw file and make it look nicer! thankyou got this video!

heheh, glad you found it helpful! i know what you mean, picture profile really give us a lot of undiscovered opportunities

man man man!!!! This could be the beginning of a whole filmmaking new era.
Thank you man!
These film profiles really do open up possibilities
Beautifuuuuull!!! Are there benefits to doing this in camera? As opposed to just shooting in slog3 and color grading in resolve in post?
Gives a good image out of the camera so there is little or no color grading needed. Giving you a good base to start from, in terms or color and contrast. S-log3 will give you the most flexibility in post, but sometimes you don't have time to color grade, or there is no budget for anything fancy.
Also, not everyone is a colorist, so some people might find S-log3 pretty hard to grade, making it easier to use the Film Simulations

The Creative LUTs are different than these film profiles, and made for any camera footage.

@@veresdenialex yup thats what I thought! . We’d love to see how! 🙏🏽 thanks in advance bro!!
most welcome, it'll be out after holidays. atm i'm spending all my time searching for presents, lol
I’m using xt3 film sims for almost everything and with this you gave life to my sony a7iii! Good work on this one!
Thanks!
hey, your picture profiles are great. but i wonder how did you set the white balance: you left it on awb or you tweaked it?
I usually tweak it, i have sample settimgs on my website on my Sony Film simulation page. It costs 5$ per year and you have access to all 21 Updated film simularion settings. Try it out, it will help you
Wow this is awesome. Thank you for all your hard work!!
Thanks and you're welcome! Have fun shooting with them. If you want to push them even further go check my website foe the LUTs. Take care
Amazing! Like your videos. Would love to see how you expose and adjust color temp in camera for each profile. Thanks brutha!
Video about that coming soon!
Would these be baked in for jpeg stills?
Yes
Just stumbled upon this and I'm glad I did. I recently bought a Sony camera. Does this film profiles work for still photography or strictly for videos only? Thanks for your work!
It works for both video and photo modes, but for photos it will be baked only in the JPEG. The Raw file cannot contain the picture profile information and need color matching. That's why I created the RAW presets www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation
@@veresdenialex Appreciate your work! How will I know which PP # should I change/modify?
@@lovecraftuni each pp slot is identic. You can customize whichever for the same results
How close is your Classic Chrome to the real deal with the A7iv? Thanks! Might purchase your plan :)
On my a7 iii it's about 90% identical, I have a video ready to be published comparing the sony and the fuji
For example, when using Kodak Portra 800, only shoot in 800 ISO. or Auto ISO or higher should be right?
do you have a Max ISO to recommend?
nah, just use the lowest ISO possible while getting a good exposure to avoid unnecessary noise
thanks for this video bro. awesome job, i never thought to move on camera settings for this results, you got 1 sub and like 🔥
Thanks man! Really do appreciate it
Great video. Do these profiles have same out come with with photos or is it sticky for video?
It applies to Video & JPEGs images. For raw photos you can use these presets to match with the in camera JPEG look. www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation
@@veresdenialex Awesome thanks for the information. I really appreciate it, I plan to download your Recipies ASAP.
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing, subbed. I am a Sony user but I prefer Fuji film simulation. These settings gave me a whole new feel to my camera.
Nice! Go check out the uodated versions on my website, color filter settings included as well
Forgive me for asking what’s probably a stupid question, but do we just change our settings in picture profile to achieve this look? I just got an A7iii and pretty new to this. Is there anything else that i have to change?
You also need the color filter settings present in the Sony film simulation plan on Website. Www.veresdenialex.com
I’m 1 min in and this video is already dope!!
Thanks, glad you are enjoying it, took a lot of work and time creating this video
Can anyone tell me where to find V/H balance, B/H balance, Crisping, limit and hi-lighting detail on the Sony a7c? Or am I misunderstanding?
Detail>adjust>manual, and here you will see all the other options for details
These look amazing! Thank you for offering them for free, these looks inspire me to go out with friends and make some vibey imagery :P
I instantly assumed these would be some 80 dollar lut pack, really cool that they're custom picture profiles in camera! I'll give all of these a go on my sony a7iv, thank you!
more than welcome my friend!
Dear @Veres Deni Alex, please share the photographs taken with these recipes.
Will do
@verexdenialex Hi, thank you for this video! Are those settings for video only , or can apply to photos as well?
photo mode as well
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. THANK YOU!!!!!
I've pinned a comment, use those color settings for each film simulation, they make a huge difference
I dont get it, do i change all this in camera or is it all done in post?
I have the rx100vii. Can i do this?
All in camera, you can def save them on the rx100 vii, I have the rx100 vi.
You need to find the picture profile inside the menu. Here is a video, go at minute 11.45 th-cam.com/video/1evvPAs_xYU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bnWs5GDNt30pvd1S

Best video in such a long time
Man thanks, really appreciate it. Really took my time planning out how to make it short and interesting without any bs.
Thanks for sharing man! Really appreciate your work.
Quick question: are you using any black mist filters? Or is halation straight out of the box?
Thanks man, glad you like it! I use black mist filters, and added red halation in post
You are underrated dude just bought my first camera and learning from you. Thank You
I appreciate that!
@@veresdenialex thanks for the reply!
@@Colorado4x4 most welcome!
Definitely gonna try on my camera! Thanks for sharing this!
Most welcome, hope you find them fun to shoot with! :d
🍭Hei, I'm happy to announce that you have won the 40+ Creative LUTs Pack. DM me on Insta and i'll provide with a download link. Congrats!🍭
I love the mood of these shots! 😊
So glad that you do! Worked really hard on this video
I've tried them all. EvPro+ is my fave, amazing in lowlight, and the colors are awesome, also the dynamic range increases. I've never saw anything like this unique straight out of my sony cam so thanks! Btw how do you add that golden chromatic abberation? That is what im exactly looking for
Thanks! Glad you like them, i've made a total of 40 sony film simulations, you can check em out on my website.
www.veresdenialex.com
The glowing red halation you mean? I have a couple videos on my channel, check my second latest for a tutorial in Davinci
@@veresdenialex What i meant is there are green or magenta chromatic abberations around the objects, (depending on the lens and contrasty situations) which can be removed in post production. What im trying to do is to replace it with orangish-gold color, for example at 4:08. I guess it might be another halation but not red.
@@bencefekecs9861 you can do that wirh the halation effects and choose your own colors
I pinned one comment where I included some color adjustments for each of these, it should be the top comment from me
@@veresdenialex oh ok I found it thank you so much Veres 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Veres I bought the course for the film recipes but one question I have is what pp do they go into ? Like example Fortia 50 what pp would that go in on the camera ?

Heheh, thanks, glad you like it! I have more recipes on the website
Hi sir! May i ask if the clips from the different film simulations were colorgraded or its just only the recipe straight out of the camera?
They are, color graded, i have a new video where i show the process. Check it out on my channel
you can check out the Creative Film LUTs on ym website, they will give you different film colors from which you can create your own luts
When i first saw all these setting in picture profile, i thought : "Someone is definitely going to make a sort of film presets out of it"
I looked everywhere for some film presets but found nothing. So i just made them myself, can't wait forever:D
Woah! So thinking of selling my XT4. I don’t want to color grade and want SOOC looks for video and photo on a song a7iv similar to Fuji xt4. Any advice? Is it possible? Thinking of buying the a7iv for SOOC.
This is what These are all about, little to no grading, great colors out of camera for both photo and video modes, check this my blog for straight out of camera jpegs www.veresdenialex.com/sony-film-simulation-blog
Wow This video is a hidden gem. You gain my sub. Absolutely incredible 🙌🙌🙌
Thank you!
I would love to see you try this profiles with a sprayed on UV filter on the lens to make it softer and get a nice hightlight roll off. Maybe then you wont have to even go through DaVinci.
I'm working on a video from my trip to Bucharest, showcasing straight out of camera jpegs with a difussion filter. they came out really nice. Activate the subscription bell to be notified of all content releases
@@veresdenialex Thank you for your reply! will try these out.

so you telling me all these footages are straight out of camera. that's wild.
Not quite, they offer great image out of the box but i slithly graded them adding red halation and adjusting colors a bit. jump at 08:04 to see some before and after grade footage. It's graded with the Creative Film Power Grades. You can find them on my website www.veresdenialex.com
@@veresdenialex Yeah I did find the comparision later in the video after I commented. But still, those colors were still great from the jump. Thanks for putting this out. You doing Gods work out here haha.
