Bamboo looked so cute dozing off on the nest. It’s crazy that this happened so fast after getting the two males. An it seems that was all Bamboo needed to figure out how to be a male Emu. Awesome news, so happy for you guys!
I have a friend who keeps a trio. 2 males and a female. It is normal and natural for 2 males to share a nest if the female hasnt made a second nest for the second. Esp if both boys go "broody" at the same time.
Hello guys, great job with all of your emu eggs, I wanted to let you guys know that my zebra finches are sitting on their eggs, I will let you guys know how it turns out
It's their first time as emu parents. They're probably all figuring it out. You can see Bamboo is trying. He's so precious. If it doesn't work out this year, hopefully next year, and with a bigger enclosure down the line, it'll go smoother next year. Can't wait til you have bigger enclosures for everybody.
Holy cow, I remember when you got Bamboo and it ran around the inside of your house wearing it's little sock diapers, chasing your boys as just a wee little hatchling and now all your emu's are ALL grown up and making nests of their own💚 Thank you WHOTH for sharing this amazing journey with us!!
@@DarkShadow-iq6yb there, I made it gender neutral. I just remember fondly watching the emu hatchling run around inside of their house when he first incubated emu's with an egg from ebay
Dark Shadow, yes Bamboo is a he. The males sit on the nests in the emu world. Daddy shrimp carry and birth the young from their pouch. Biology is diverse.
Its so good that you give your boys chores and farm work to do that will give them a good work ethic for when they get hired for a job other boys these days sit around and play vidio games your a great dad to them boys keep it up
its amazing how much you care for those emus, and how much they care for you! Emus have a powerful kick, so its very sweet to see they've never tried to kick you or Becky or your kids. love your channel, keep those videos coming!
Love your channel and watching your family thrive and grow. It's been wonderful. You guys should consider finally expanding the Emu enclosure. They really do need a lot of space so they can run. With a large enough fenced enclosure, you would be able to keep them all together instead of separate. They would be able to escape each other during arguments which would really help with the aggression you're seeing as well as the egg crushing issues. Most likely, Bert is not trying to breed, he is chasing the female away from the nest because she is probably the one actually crushing the eggs when she runs into the emu hut. Please consider making this upgrade for them, for their mental and physical health. You've mentioned plans for it in old videos when you first moved into the new house. 🙏
Yes, emus don't pair up...the female just comes to breed but also lay eggs that aren't sired by the male that is laying on them. He would be trying to shoo her away from his nest.
I totally agree with Bert chasing away the female. It's (apparently) quite common though for large birds to consume eggs that aren't fertile. One or both of them might just be refining down the clutch to the viable eggs. I'd be interested to see if they're just trampling the eggs or if they're purposefully breaking them. Good Luck regardless, super excited to see the ones in the incubator progress!
This is so facinating to me! Despite all the differences between you guys in America and us Aussies with the weather and season somehow the emus seem to be pretty in sync!! We've got a lot of wild emus around us. I saw a big papa yesterday with 6 babies in tow, and what I believe may have been mumma with another male in the same area on my way home
I'm so happy that your chickens are doing better! I discovered your channel about a month or so ago and I really enjoyed it. I've binge watched quite a few episodes. 💙💙💙
I hope this year you can build more & larger emus pens. This will give the emus to run, fight, love, play, and maybe give them enough room NOT to destroy the nest.
Its pretty wild seeing how big and small an Emu can make itself, while it was playing with your son and the rocket. They are like giraffes with retractable necks.
After the clutch is fully laid, remove all but the broody male and let him have his own area. He'd be solitary after the clutch is laid in the wild. It may wok in captivity. Or, buy fake Emu eggs and replace them outside. Take the real eggs in to incubate and then swap them just before hatching.
You can prevent your emu from eating eggs by practicing. Paint some ceramic eggs to look like emu eggs and make sure their size is the same as the emu eggs. Leave them in the nest. Emus will try to break them but they will encounter with solid hard eggs. After several days, they will stop pecking eggs.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 I don’t know everything about emus but Bert shouldn’t really have the other two encroaching on his space while he’s sitting on the eggs. I don’t think he’s trying to mate with Peekaboo, I think he’s trying to chase her off because he’s territorial over the eggs. Same for Bamboo. It’s a shame that it’s caused eggs to be broken. But hopefully the ones in the brooder will hatch. 🙂 really enjoy watching your videos. So relaxing.
I learned so much about emus from this video. Love all the details. I would never have known any of these things of not for your farm and fabulous family.
It almost seemed like Burt was trying to keep peekaboo away from the eggs. Not sure as I'm not familiar with emus. But that's what it looked like to me
I love seeing your large birds. You pet them and they seem to enjoy it. I've been around others and they certainly didn't want to be pet or be near their owners.
Your videos are always so interesting! I have learned so much since I started following you. I love the way you are teaching the children even though they are still so young.
Im gonna be the odd man out here. We have seen these things get loose. What a cluster! We have seen people get tired of them, as the fad looses its luster. Sad to see a group of them abandoned. What good are they? beyond selling the shells for art which is beautiful and amazing.
Regarding the Factor Food containers: When you microwave your food in plastic containers or plastic wrap covers, some of the plastic gets vaporized, and some of the vaporized plastic molecules get into the food. Going forward, transfer the food to non plastic, microwave safe containers before putting them in the microwave. Use a plate or paper towel for a cover instead of plastic wrap. I use my microwave oven very often, but never use plastic in there. Another good way to cook food is in a crockpot. It always comes out tasting real good. I have a 5qt round one and a 3.5qt oval one, and I use both. I just made up a big batch of BBQ crockpot chicken yesterday evening. Regarding emus: I like emu videos because they are funny to watch. Due to health issues I can no longer handle taking care of a pet, so I have to make do with animal videos.🐣😃
Welcome to parenthood, Bamboo! 😂 the dozing was hilarious. I feel him- for real! Amazing that all he needed was seeing Burt set the example. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
I went to my local park which has emus and kangaroos. I live in Melbourne, and the Ranger says females lay about 18 eggs a season. There a bit early, as they breed in the Australian winter, and we’re still in Autumn here in the southern hemisphere.
I am so looking forward to seeing the eggs hatch. I suppose that the birds outside its the first time they have had eggs so as they have no other emus as role models things can go wrong. My dad had a broody hen that raised ducks and she would take them to the pond and let them swim. She laid a clutch of her own eggs, hatched them them took them to the pond and pushed them all in, sad.
Bamboo has a more gentle touch for the eggs as he finally starts to figure out how to be a papa. I am just wondering will you try to move any eggs from the incubator when it is starting to have sound (ready for hatching) for the new papa emus or is it safer to hatch in confined area and later introduce the chicks to the papas because the papa are the ones who are supposed to take care of the babies?
You guys should look into Rheas. I'm sure Ben from Urban Rescue Ranch has some available to be rehomed. You probabaly have your hands full with emus at the moment though haha

As per law requirement in EU, each breeding trio has to have at least 500 sq. metres and at least 70 metres long...
It’s sad seeing them in such small confines. Emus need lots of space to run.
