Six-time Tony Award Winner Audra McDonald will return to Broadway this fall, taking on what is widely regarded as the greatest role in musical theatre, “Rose” in GYPSY.
I saw Audra perform Rose's Turn at the Palladium a couple of years ago and my immediate thought after it was she had to star in a Gypsy revival - I'm so excited this is finally happening!
Audra can belt too. Not to mention her genius as an actor. I am so excited to see a new take on this role, and what George C Wolfe brings to the direction (also a genius).
Why do the bottom comments think Gypsy keeps getting revivals?? Its been 16 years since the last time it was on Broadway. You know how long it took for the first revival? 15 years! You know how long for the second? Another 15!!
After Audra has her "turn", we won't need to see Gypsy again, unless Ethel Merman returns from the dead. Seeing Audra will be enough FOR ME! FOR ME! FOR ME! FOR ME! FOR MEEEEEEEEE! Of course tickets will probably be unaffordable...FOR ME!
I swear there are some good shows (or even mediocre ones) that should be revived before Gypsy. Angela in the 70's, Tyne in the 80's, Bernadette in the 2000's, Patti in the 2000's and Imelda Staunton just released her London revival version on streaming and DVD. This will be the 6th revival... with 5 of them on being Broadway!
When you think of all the great Broadway musicals that haven't been revived even once, you can't help thinking, "Gypsy" again (or, for that matter, "Cabaret")?
sorry, but in what world is an operatic singer a good choice for this role? this trend of casting big names in roles they are not at all a good fit for just because they are big names is so obnoxious. but it is working, so i am apparently in the minority. but also, this show seriously needs another revival before beauty and the beast or ragtime even get an initial one?! fuck that!!
please touch grass. Sure Audras roots and training was initially in opera, she has proven herself capable of being a fully rounded multifaceted actress. Kthanks 😊
I said a similar comment when she was cast as Billie Holliday. She quickly shut me up with that performance, so I'm going to trust the process this time and assume she will absolutely kill this role like she has with every single one so far.
My soul just left my body

I had a dream
I dreamed it for you, AUDRA

Hand her the Tony right now. Anyone else winning is pure delusional fantasy 😂😂😂
Shame too, because I was just starting to think this was finally Megan Hilty’s year and then this was announced.
CHIIIIILLLLLSSSSS!!!
Are you f***ing kidding me?!
DEAD
AND SHE SAID SHE WASN'T GONNA DO IT THAT LIAR
That's not what she said. She said it was a rumor, and even restated it as "right now, it's a rumor"

uh no you don't think that
there’s a broadway revival of cabaret right now :)

RAGTIME was revived on Broadway in 2009.
If she could portray Billie Holliday, then Audra's got tricks up her sleeve. I hear you but you never know.

Does Broadway really need "Gypsy" again? Isn't "Cabaret" every five years bad enough?
Love her, but don't need another damn revival of this or Cabaret!!!
Because you said so ?
Who hurt you cupcake?
I rather see 100 different revivals then shows like Mrs. Doubtfire or Back To The Future
ONCE AGAIN????? HELL, NOOOOO!
I rather see another classic then shows like Mrs Doubtfire or another musical based off a movie
@@gregXxoI mean you gotta admit Mrs Doubtfire was really good and really funny
@@EthanJoseph-yp3xp loved the movie....just not a fan of turning movies into plays/musicals
@@gregXxo do you like MJ the musical?
