This motivated me to immediately buy an altitude training mask, and the results have been awesome. From August 2021 to June 2022 my mile time went from 6:54 to 6:22. In July I watched your video and bought my mask, and today I hit 5:59! 7.7% improvement in 10 months without mask -> 6% improvement in 4 weeks with the mask!
@@SulaimanNoorAhmad I initially tried wearing it an hour a day, but I stopped after 45 minutes on the first day. Instead, I wore it 15 minutes during low-intensity cardio, 3x per week - so 45 minutes total per week. I would *not* recommend using it for high-intensity cardio. And what I mean by that is if I run at 5.5 mph on the treadmill, my heart rate is about 120-130 bpm and it feels like a 6 out of 10 difficulty. If I run at 9.5 mph on the treadmill, my heart rate is about 160-175 bpm and it feels like 8.5-9.5 out of 10 difficulty. If you put the mask on, at 5.5 mph my heart rate is about 125-135 but it feels like a 9 difficulty, and if I run at 9.5... I have to jump off after 30 seconds because I can't breathe! So it kinda turns low-intensity cardio into high-intensity cardio for your respiratory muscles, but it's still low-intensity cardio as far as your heart is concerned.

The thing with the altititude method is is that it certainly does help with creating more red blood cells and when you come to a lower altitude you certainly are stronger than beforehand. This is very temporary however, your body eventually realizes there is a lot more oxygen in the air and stops creating as much blood cells.

So good to finally see u getting good views. Your content has been some of my favourite videos over the past few months. I’m happy to see you’re getting the views u deserve for the amount of effort you put into this channel.
DUDE! This might be your best video yet! Or at least the one I am most impressed by! I've played around a bit with respiratory muscle training tools, like Bas Rutten's O2Max Trainer, and have seen modest improvements. But I was literally only using it a total of 20 minutes per week. But your improvement on the mile is motivating me to try it out for an hour of casual use per day + the first 10 minutes of my cardio workouts. Btw, your original mile time is roughly equivalent to a Vo2Max of 48 ml/kg/min while your new mile time is roughly equivalent to 53 ml/kg/min!! That's a *huge* difference. Congratulations!
4-week update: Bought a mask, wore it casually for 45 mins ONCE and decided I didn't like it. But I've worn it for the last 15 minutes of most of my cardio workouts. So out of the 16 hours of cardio that I did during the past four weeks, about 4 hours were using the mask. My estimated Vo2Max has gone up from 48 to 52! For the record, it took me 10 months to go from 43 to 48. So I've made a similar amount of progress in 4 weeks compared to the past 10 months!!!!
I tried the mask specifically for runs for Summer training awhile back, and I was told if You're using it during Your runs alone, it won't benifit You; however, I really appreciate Pigmies idea where it helps the muscles to make breathing more effortless. It's tough to really know how to get the most out of it, but I do still believe there are some benifits to be siezed. Then again, everyone is different, sometimes during actual team practice and races, I felt like I had an edge to fly past everyone because I trained alone with the mask. Who knows, maybe the mental muscle is impacted here too! So much we really cannot say for sure
Most of the adaptations are most likely just from the training rather than the mask. Changing how you breath is mostly a mental component then a physical one. To benefit from the mask, you would have to wear it 24/7 for an extended period of time.
The need to breathe comes from co2 building up not the lack of o2. And those pushups and pull ups are done by muscle groups that work anaerobic so it doesn't do that much. Might help with recovery. And if you are a mouth breather try taping/holding the skin on the sides of your nose outwards to pull your nasal openings apart. If that already helps (significantly) then you might want to see a doctor about corrective surgery.
Amazing content I use a breathing mask since 2018 and I also see improvements. Thanks for trying all those things out that I always was curious about. Keep it up
do a test again after a few weeks. Apparently if u stop using the mask your body will go back to "normal". ( with "normal" i mean the oxygen capacity and stuff )
So from a respiratory therapy perspective, you can already emulate this at home by breathing through your nose. It's resistance breathing training, and it improved the muscular function of your diaphragm, as well as helps open up your lower airways. To many people breath through their mouths, making them weaker later in their lives. VO2 max is a significant contributor for over all standing health, and those who live active life styles have a high VO2 max, thusly have a lower mortality rate over all.
I think it also improves the mood since you can exhale more oxygen (Especially with a healthy fresh air far away from midtowns and so on) In other words you will end up less stressful and more happier and logical even.
When it comes to firefighter fitness I love using this at the gym during my cardio sessions helps me practice breathing control while under stress so I don't run out of gas too quickly or suck down a bottle of air too quickly
You should try mouth taping for a week. There is so much benefit to it because it forces you to breathe out of your nose only. Opposed to this mask where you are sucking air in through your mouth. Would love to see that video!
Wow! Pigme just single-handedly proved that mask-wearing is healthy in more than one way and that powering through is worth it. (Well, and the millions of doctors and nurses that wear masks all day every day. There's that.)
Doctors and nurses change their masks every few minutes to prevent getting bacteria infections. Masks stop bacteria, not viruses that are air born, your still getting oxygen, so viruses can pass through , unless it's a certain type of mask. As for a surgical mask, they are great for their purpose and if used right, which means changing every 15-45 minutes maximum. They clog and get wet from your body moisture in your breath, so you can make yourself sick. I am not anti-mask at all. Just understand the purpose and which does which. Knowledge is power, cloth masks are garbage for use outdoors and for more then 15 minutes you risk lung Infection. All this information is available at the cdc and who websites. Or it's also on the boxes for these masks. As for the mask he is using , theh work if used right and cleaned properly. Everything is useful if used properly.
I've used similar products and done some research on the subject, these air restricting mask/devices don't really simulate high altitude. Being in high altitude means the air is thinner and that means when you breath your getting less oxygen/air when breathe regularly. So your body has to adjust to less oxygen/air available by learning to breathe harder. Using these mask is more like inducing asthma symptoms. These mask are restricting your airflow. Essentially its making your airflow passages smaller similar to someone squeezing a tube, it's decreasing the amount of air that can get through. That being said being in high altitude or using a mask/device cause you to increase your lung power either way. Your lung strength increases whether being in high altitude or using an air restriction mask/device because your lungs have work harder to attain air or oxygen. So training in high altitude or using an air restriction mask/device increase your lung strength in different ways. So they attain similar results but in different ways.
Makes sense, you're still getting the same ratio of oxygen in the atmosphere albeit it in a more forceful breath. It trains you to breathe harder i guess
Thanks for the info man!! Question, as someone with asthma, would you recommend them to do this? I have slight asthma that doesn’t seriously affect me unless I’m doing intense cardio workouts and I tend to run out of air insanely quickly compared to most other people. For instance playing a full court game of basketball makes me insanely out of breath by the time that we reach the halfway point.
The breathing he said was similar to apnea is actually really similar to how fighter pilots breathe when pulling high Gs. It's just a normal technique whereby you take short and sharp breaths because of the straining to breath.
Sad part is if you read updated studies. Training normal, you can train harder and longer and sleeping for recovery in a high altitude chamber is where you get double sometimes almost triple the benefits of longer endurance and stamina than just training in high altitude.
I love your videos. Thanks for all the dedication and work that goes into them, and for the humor! Can I ask why you wear a hoodie while running? Is it just the cool weather?

as an asthmatic, everything you described just sounds like having asthma lol. mine is severe and triggered by the cold weather and physical activity. in grade school i would have to really push through running laps, and people would say that i looked purple after. part of it IS mental, but the physical part is no joke. thanks for yet another interesting video.
why wouldn't you buy some cordless earbuds? I just got so used to wear galaxy buds+ with workout and feeling free movement that i feel those earbuds too restraining when i wear em
Cordless earbuds suck for me. They don't stay in my ears, and constantly slip out. I prefer earbuds with a cord so that I don't have to worry about losing them.
next challenge, where a breathing mask at high altitude you breathe barely any air in and the air you do breathe wont have much oxygen in it ez gains (im not serious about him doing it cuz that would be realy hard on you and probably bad since you would get so little oxygen, but it would be interesting to see ppl already used to high altitude try it)
about 2 days ago i just came back from my 14 day philmont trek in new mexico for boyscouts. There was basically not a day that i wasnt above 6000ft in elevation and i had to climb mountains that went up to 11000ft in elevation. And as u said the less oxygen in the air made it really hard for me to climb the mountains and i had a hard time breathing but surprisingly we were the fastest crew this entire summer season
Explosive exercises will probably be your friend. Clap push-ups, jump squats, box jumps, burpees, and some core workout to balance it like planks or hanging leg raises.
I used to run up stairs and run miles wearing my 40 lb vest. I'm no runner but I got down to 15 minutes for 3 miles. I wonder what could be achieved with a vest and a mask.
Not a runner but a 15 minute three mile? As an all state runner, I’ve got to say that sounds incredibly unlikely if it’s true you are basically an elite runner.
I didn't think much of it, because we were just C.S. students stretching our legs. It was a couple Turks, a couple vets and me. Tbf I was a swimmer (1.5 hours, 5 days weekly) in high school and I'm pretty sure I was overtraining with weights (2-3 hours daily). Switching to running 3 times weekly felt like I was taking it easy. Now I'm a mere bicycle-commuter and a dishwasher. Thank you. You've inspired me to start another running group.
Can you do a challenge for your eyesight? Like staring at long distance for 30 min a day, everyday. I guess it takes more time to improve your eyesight, more than 7 days.
The body is more attuned to the levels of co2 in the blood than oxygen. It would be interesting to focus more on the exhale than the inhale. I bet someone could make a channel just redoing all of these as in reaponse video format lol. Ive seen the full plate armor fights and they do mention "helmet clearing" is important to get fresh air to breathe or that sense of panic really sets in from toxic co2
I wonder if this would be good for an MMA fight .. typically the week before the fight they don't train so you could just get your body used to altitude. when guys fight at altitude they will show up early to acclimatize
Hey Pigmie thats not real altitude thats just resistance in real attitude there is less oxygen in the air. This is just resistance same oxygen levels in the air. Thank you, I love your videos!
I bought one to use just while walking but only used it once because I'm not walking as part of my routine anymore. I felt stupid wearing it. If I ever get into walking again, I may use it. I lived in La Paz so I know what its like to live at altitude and this mask is not it. Like you said, it just teaches you to suck harder and maybe get less oxygen. It might be better to do exercise sets while holding your breath or apnea. I used to like walking up and down stairs holding my breath. I was into spearfishing back then. Thanks for your video.
Actually it’s more than that. Think about it. He actually got soreness in his chest area. The heart is a muscle. So using an altitude mask is resistance training for your heart. So yes, you can breathe stronger, but your heart also is actually getting stronger through “resistance” training.
0:26 54 pushups 15 pullups TFW I can't do 1/8th of what this guy does but I can do much more pushups and pullups (my highscores are ~85 and ~25) Keep at it Pigmie, you're a king👑
I can do up to 15 pushups in a row, 20 if I push myself, and I've currently reached up to 9 pull-ups. I'm pretty proud of how much I'm able to do right now, cuz b4 I couldn't even do so much as 1 pushup or pull-up fully. I hope to continue making progress as I go on, though I haven't have many opportunities to do much exercise while in Nigeria with my dad, and I'm hoping my strength doesn't drop or anything.
I once read about people who aclimated to high altitude having more red blood cells which makes me think of possibly causing high blood pressure. Just thinking
I live about 4500 feet above sea level in the mountain west. One time, I had a layover in Florida and we played some basketball. I NEVER got winded. So yeah, altitude does make a difference. Not sure if your mask does, but altitude definitely does.
My man how do you have over 2 mil subs but only have 6k likes and 364 comments, with all the work you put in you should have way better engagement hopefully it picks up. Good vid.👍🏻
I live in Lake Tahoe which is above 6000ft elevation I also noticed that when I do heavier lower body exercises I take more deep breaths. I thought I was crazy 😅 maybe I should go down to Sacramento and do heavy squats and see if I breathe as hard
Recently I watched your video about wrist. So as a skinny guy with thin bones can I ask a video about making thicker leg's thinnest part over ankle joint ?
when i wore scuba goggles on my face and did push-ups (dont ask why) , i observed that i basically did not feel most of the regular fatigue that came with it , it was one of those nose covering goggles , and it was rather tight on my face , so maybe the tightness made me focus on it rather than the muscular pain , like a scratch on an itch ? i dont know , but maybe he should try it out unless its actually a well known phenomenon that may be potentially harmful.

“It’s like breathing is no resistance at all now” 😂 yes, that’s how normal breathing is suppose to be
As A chronic asthmatic...welcome to my world!
Thanks bro, I've been wondering if it works as they say and had a hard time finding a good test.
as an asthmatic, everything you described just sounds like having asthma lol. mine is severe and triggered by the cold weather and physical activity. in grade school i would have to really push through running laps, and people would say that i looked purple after. part of it IS mental, but the physical part is no joke. thanks for yet another interesting video.
Bro my man’s time with the mask is still better than mine without one
why wouldn't you buy some cordless earbuds? I just got so used to wear galaxy buds+ with workout and feeling free movement that i feel those earbuds too restraining when i wear em
Cordless earbuds suck for me. They don't stay in my ears, and constantly slip out. I prefer earbuds with a cord so that I don't have to worry about losing them.
next challenge, where a breathing mask at high altitude you breathe barely any air in and the air you do breathe wont have much oxygen in it ez gains
(im not serious about him doing it cuz that would be realy hard on you and probably bad since you would get so little oxygen, but it would be interesting to see ppl already used to high altitude try it)
No no, it makes sense. After he does that, he should use the altitude mask underwater so that he can become aquaman
about 2 days ago i just came back from my 14 day philmont trek in new mexico for boyscouts.
0:44 wait pigmie literally looks like the guy from the advertisement in that box.
basically a weight vest for your lungs.
wow this must have been tough and could not do this myself for a while so thank you for the vid king
Awesome training advices, thanks so much ❤
I’m a wildland firefighter and we got sent to silver thorn Colorado and the elevation was 9 thousand ish and it was so hard to breathe and do pt
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain. This week we will be cruising at an altitude of about 3500 ft.
Please make a Video on Full Body (POWER) Workout.
I mean (Strength + Speed) = POWER
Explosive exercises will probably be your friend. Clap push-ups, jump squats, box jumps, burpees, and some core workout to balance it like planks or hanging leg raises.
@@TheNewTH-camHandlesAreDumb Thanks Man
Great job making these challenges
Bro pulled a Joseph joestar
Honestly might buy this to help my cardio since I've seen how much progress you made in a week wearing it
don't do it. it's a waste of money. it most likely cause mental adaptations, placebo, rather than physical adaptations.
@@Nsham04 did u not hear what he said he ran with
@@monkevr5115 That doesn’t change the fact that 3 miles in 15 minutes is elite territory. For a “non runner” it’s just not realistic.
thats an unreal run time
I didn't think much of it, because we were just C.S. students stretching our legs.
Thank you. You've inspired me to start another running group.
your work is appreciable 👍❤️
Can you do a challenge for your eyesight?
Like staring at long distance for 30 min a day, everyday.
I guess it takes more time to improve your eyesight, more than 7 days.
so it seems like it would def help with fight endurance for sure.
Def
lower pressure might cause swelling when it's partial like this.
In Touch ministries. Good reading material choice. God bless!
In my experience, breathing at high altitudes is super easy because the air is really thin. You just end up doing it *a lot* more
But at high altitude the pressure gradient is less between the outside and your lungs.
What I like is that is clear he isn’t asking the video because you can see throughout the days the mask is literally leaving a print over his nose
My man looks like bane from Batman
1:14 so it gives you asthma?
Can You Give Us The Name Of This Beautiful Music You Use In 7:49 - 9:40?
The body is more attuned to the levels of co2 in the blood than oxygen. It would be interesting to focus more on the exhale than the inhale. I bet someone could make a channel just redoing all of these as in reaponse video format lol. Ive seen the full plate armor fights and they do mention "helmet clearing" is important to get fresh air to breathe or that sense of panic really sets in from toxic co2
I wonder if this would be good for an MMA fight .. typically the week before the fight they don't train so you could just get your body used to altitude. when guys fight at altitude they will show up early to acclimatize
Was thinking the same thing, let me know your results I may try this if it goes well
Hey Pigmie thats not real altitude thats just resistance in real attitude there is less oxygen in the air. This is just resistance same oxygen levels in the air. Thank you, I love your videos!
You should buy an altitude chamber one that goes around your bed or something like that.
Oh my bad you explained later in the video.
@@TacticalDimples the resistance isnt in the heart but the diaphragm pulling in and pushing out air from your lungs.
@@TacticalDimples No
Your dedication is admirable.

54 pushups
15 pullups
TFW I can't do 1/8th of what this guy does but I can do much more pushups and pullups (my highscores are ~85 and ~25)
Keep at it Pigmie, you're a king👑
He’s training his full force breathing
So you’re basically bane now
its cool how hard you work to find new things to help us improve ourselves also where did you get the focused shirt your wearing at the end of the vid
*obligatory Bane impression: appreciated*
Cool Video! Maybe normal breathing resistence training will be the better Choice/Approach.
I live about 4500 feet above sea level in the mountain west. One time, I had a layover in Florida and we played some basketball. I NEVER got winded.
So yeah, altitude does make a difference. Not sure if your mask does, but altitude definitely does.
Lmao my first thought when he was driving was “omg he’s gonna pass out”
You're ready to take on the Aztec Strippers now that you have mastered your breathing
“I was born in the darkness, you merely adopted it”
What is wrong with his finger there, why do you hold the cup like that 4:45
"it doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan"
My man how do you have over 2 mil subs but only have 6k likes and 364 comments, with all the work you put in you should have way better engagement hopefully it picks up. Good vid.👍🏻
I live in Lake Tahoe which is above 6000ft elevation
I also noticed that when I do heavier lower body exercises I take more deep breaths. I thought I was crazy 😅 maybe I should go down to Sacramento and do heavy squats and see if I breathe as hard
How it feels to be out of shape while in shape
You are about to become a master at Hamon
Recently I watched your video about wrist. So as a skinny guy with thin bones can I ask a video about making thicker leg's thinnest part over ankle joint ?
bro training like joseph joestar
Combining this with the weight vest would be cool haha
IS THIS A JOJO REFRENCE!!!
when i wore scuba goggles on my face and did push-ups (dont ask why) , i observed that i basically did not feel most of the regular fatigue that came with it , it was one of those nose covering goggles , and it was rather tight on my face , so maybe the tightness made me focus on it rather than the muscular pain , like a scratch on an itch ? i dont know , but maybe he should try it out unless its actually a well known phenomenon that may be potentially harmful.
