Replacing your save batteries is absolutely one of the easiest soldering repairs out there! I also have a short showcasing this on my channel, you can do it people!!
I actually did this repair with my dad on Pokemon Silver when I was little. I think they burned through battery faster because they kept an internal clock for the game mechanic, but that's just a guess. Recently Castlevania also died, so I'm going to need to repeat this repair again
I don’t have the supplies to do this myself, but I definitely want to do this cuz I got Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, AND Leaf Green that I both wanna Nuzlocke and someday find an OG DS/DSLite so that I can begin the process of transferring pokemon from one generation to the next

No, you will need a battery to save the games, so putting a new one in will let you save again, but your original saves will be gone There are other ways round it (adding a battery to bypass the failing one) but you're better off making a dump of your save anyway

EMULATOR allows me to play using my wireless xbox controller ... and I have all 5,000 gameboy games on a USB stick. Why bother repairing this nonsense? The retro game bubble already popped.
That's cool..I like the nostalgia of owning many many copies of fully functioning original games from the 90's. Emulators are nice but definitely not the same

I'm 35 years old and never knew they had battery's in them I still have one around in a box some
Most GBA games that have save files or clocks used batteries to keep track of them
I did mine my pokemon Gold kept shutting off an I didn't have the tools to fix it 🙃
Lovely job. Glad that you show people the proper way to do these repairs.
Saving the games/consoles!
I try to! Thanks man!

Gonna go ahead and save this, I just found a cigar box full of game boy games in my parents stuff. Exciting😇
Red rubber erasers are used to clean pins.
White rubber erasers have oils that cause other problems.
My respect to you, and the things you do in your channel 💯👍👍
Saw 2 shorts, I subbed

That's awesome! And you're right! It's for the clock
me, a shiny hunter: ah, finally some content for me
Crazy to see the original battery my copies still got the reddish and blue battery. Dead af but yeeee

TIL gameboy games have their own batteries
That's because they use RAM to store the save data. RAM loses all of the data once the power goes out, so you require a battery to keep it running

as someone that has soldered, no thanks
Dude I don't own a soldering iron though. And also I have no experience soldering. And also I'm terrified of really hot things
Dude wtf 🤯 didn’t know this😂
RYODG IT !!!💥👊💥
Btw Where can we buy MASK ROM replacement !?
You can also fix the clock issue after replacing by getting a GB game loader or loading the rom into an emulator and then back into the cartridge.

Whats your opinion on New 3DS LL/XL USB C conversions? You do them?
Thank you 😭
I never knew that gba games have fucking batteries
most of them don't, only ones that needed to keep track of real world time had them
I sadly wasn't able to find the board for the gba games on the site
My hands shake too much, but how much to fix 2 GBA games that are my favorites.
Can you do one on ds game cartridges? I have this mystery game that rattles when i shake it, and my ds lite doesnt recognize the game 🤔
Is there a soldering kit you recommend for repairing this? I see $20 ones on amazon but no clue if they are any good.
I have a list of tools that I use in my bio, I haven't tried the $20 ones but if they're adjustable, and if you have the right tip they should work
You dont loose your saved games if you remove the battery?

@@untitled_person1941 is there a native way to back them up?
No, gba games outside of a few bootlegs and really early ones don’t use the battery for the save, only for the rtc so you’re fine

Ah I remember you
I also have a copy of Ruby that needs this done, do you lose your save when you remove the battery?
Nope, these are timing batteries!
@@VideoGameRestoration nice, I'll give it a shot! Thanks!
What about ds cartridges?, Mine won’t work, and I’ve been trying to find a way to fix it.

Im sorry but a battery??? When and why do they have batteries in them??
Ah yes I have the tools laying around to do this NOT!

Because it’s retro and also real hardware that just scratches the surface for reasons
Right, just throw it in the trash and steal all the games instead of doing a quick 5 minute repair that costs a few bucks. That makes total sense.
