I’m gonna give you the best advice. The oil level you see on the screen is most likely wrong. Most if not all having failing hood latch sensors and oil sensors. Best and only way to get accurate reading is buy a dip stick and call it a day. Yes lots of audi’s were your hood latches will indicate your oil level and depending on how long you keep your hood open will reset it, at the hood latch lol. So just do a oil dip stick specifically for the car and call it day.
And Yes and No. If you're seeking accuracy, when yes, definitely dipstick is recommended, but if you care just about the oil average, thats the way to do it.
What does the hood latch have to do with the oil level? And how does one go about installing a dipstick? Reading your post gave me a headache but Id like to know.
The hood latch and Oil level you have to ask Audi, why they did it that way is anyone's guess. Maybe someone thought if you pop your hood open your adding oil and all is good, I don't know. You don't install a dipstick nothing to really install. In the video he pulls the cap off were a dipstick is usually for most cars. You just buy a oil dipstick and put it in place of it and call it a day.
Sometimes you can't always rely on technology, I used to have a Mitsubishi Canter with a check oil button on the dash which I used frequently, one day to check it out I pressed the button and it said that the oil level was fine but when I checked the dipstick it was dry. I'm always wary of this type of technology now.
Dean M it’s for the drivers. It makes it easy to see the level while you’re driving or whatever. I think they should have a dipstick and the electronic system
It's so stealer ships can rip people off trying to discourage you doing you're own oil change and charge people who don't really understand cars for rip off oil top ups .
Go head over to ECS Tuning and purchase the correct dipstick for your vehicle if you have a plug. My A7 had one and it literally took me less time to remove the plug and install the dipstick than checking the oil level using the Audi MMI.
Thanks Lazyhands great video really clear and explicit instruction. It has to be thee most absurd way of checking the oil ! Oil Window? Dipstick? Nah! Overly complex way of doing it whilst sat in the comfort of the cockpit totally unaware of the oils condition ! Ha
some added detail applicable at least to my late-2014 MY A5 2.0T: the message that appears when oil level does not appear, says something like "... engine must be off and you must wait 2 minutes...". However, this seems to appear only immediately after an oil change, and/or after leaving it undriven for many days. The car usually does display the oil level gauge reading even while driving, I don't know why. By careful testing and measuring during my own oil changes, I have physically verified these things 1) being above "max" does not show 2) adding exactly the right amount of oil does indeed read as "max" (4.9 US qt in my case) 3) the amount of oil level difference that will show on the gauge is about 1/4 US qt -- the gauge does not descend pixel by pixel as oil is consumed and 4) the difference between "max" and "min" is about 1 US qt (or 1 liter which is close to the same). Now that I understand it and see that it's worked reliably for several years, I like the idea that the car will raise an alarm on my dashboard even when I don't check under the hood.

I have a Q7 with 7700 km in this moment. On the first 5000 km, the car has a higher consumption of oil, which is mention on the handbook. The style of driving also is important because it may affect the oil level, with up to 0,5 liter/1000 km. Anyway, I added like 370 ml which was enough to reach the maximum level. How to check oil matic audi a4 year 1997. Because, the Audi A4 automatic car belongs to me, if it is taken on the road suddenly cannot walk forward or backward. But when the engine is cold, it can run again.
I work at an audi dealership and this is highly not recommended because we use a dipstick that is made to be adjustable so we can use it on any type of engine, the mmi isn't that great at accurately determining if there is the correct amount of oil in the engine.
My car (2010 Audi A4) doesn't have a dipstick and it also doesn't have a option to check the oil in the car setup menu? How do I still check it though?

Colin Jacobs, give try this way: open the engine hood and double check in front of engine between the radiator fan and engine if it’s not there check around the engine and if it’s not there, remove the plastic engine cover and double there. And if still dipstick not there give a call to the dealership please. Otherwise it should be on your computer dash somewhere. Thank you.

Hello Rkan abulwafa, the only one who can help is the Audi dealership, the problem is that Audi has a recall on the certain engines, but they can replace the engine for you, if you will be able to proof that each of oil changing services was always done on time and non of them are missing. I’m sorry to hear that, my biggest recommendation to you is sell your vehicle as soon as possible. Otherwise you will keep frowning your money in to 🚽
In all the related videos, not one talks about How does one know if the oil is over the Max level? this is very important as everyone know, because it will cause oil burn and damage to gaskets.
Best time to add 1liter of oil if your computer shows lower the average level (between MIN and average) And double check always oil level after you topped it up.
If you add too more oil, a message will appear: please reduce oil level! Also in my opinion, you can't add oil exactly to the maximum level, as long you don't have a classic dipstick. But 50 ml over the maxim I don't think will kill the engine.

what if it just says "oil level" with the bar gauge but no level filled in indicating a level. It just says "oil level" doest say ok or low and doesn't have an indication in the bar gauge?
great question my friend, logically thinking if it shows you empty bar gauge it should give you a message once day, that you running low on oil, but that's in my opinion, I might be wrong. Just in case give a call to your local Audi dealer service, they should ensure you.
You're absolutely right, after regular service its has to be done a brain wash for vehicle - service reset. But also ask them about empty bar gauge, whats does it mean and let me know too. thank you 🙏
lazyhands so my audi was low on oil, I added 1 quart and the indicator bar indicated a level. Last time oil was changed was about 2500 miles ago so im not sure why the oil level got low, theres no indications of a leak so im not sure
I've got audi a5... My oil level is always full... It has never changed since having the car for 1 year...... Is their maybe a fault to this on the computer
Dear Dixie, you have to change the oils ASAP, or you will kill the engine, no matter what’s electronic gauges are showing, you must once per year at least to change your vehicle’s oil. I’m recommendation make 2 changes during the year also depending on your driving and mileage, but change before summer and second time before winter. If you don’t drive and vehicle sits all the time, you still have to change oil at least once a year. Do the oils changing and after ask your mechanic or service scan computer brains, if there’s any faults, computer will detect and mechanic will let you know. Thank you.
I own a f ** king A5 2.0 TFSi that burns a lot of oil, so i bought the oil dipstick to have a better vision of the oil level because the electronic indicator is a f ** cking joke. It takes ages to recognize changes in oil level. Example: electronic oil level indicator says the oil is at min, ok, i add 1 qt, then it takes at least 100 miles to aknowledge the oil level has raised. After few years, 20.000 miles, and 20 qts of oil burned, now the electronic oil level always says: oil at min, you can continue to drive" ..... while the oil dipstick indicate oil at max level ...... thank you Audi for this wonderful engine
@@nickybazzi4205, as I know so far if you have all the service records done on time since day one, mileage in not bigger than 80k and can prove to them when AUDI would install the new engine for you. I recommend to double check all your options with local Audi dealership.
@@lazyhands Thank you for your advice, i did all the services in time, at the car dealership, and they knew the problem but, unfortunately, i live in Italy.... Audi service temporized in front of my requests, every time, arising many and different scuses, refusing the engine replacement, trying to repair many different things, till the end of the warranty, and now the only solution is a lawsuit. This is the "italian way", because class actions do not exist. Often big brands act as if nothing has happened .... they do not really care about their customers, and let them pay for their errors. They well know a lawsuit will cost me like the engine repair .... plus many years of time.
I have a4 b8 2010 2.0tdi 170hp I drove 9000 miles from the last small service And its show to me now After i check the oil level on flat surface and After i drive a car for about 30 minuts, its shows me about 75%Those Orange Line I hear that from Max to minimum is exactly 9 deciliters so is that mean that my car eat about 3 deciliters in 9000 miles??? Can anybody anwser me that Because a smalll service before this small service my line never dropped below 90% Do i have to worry?
Unbelievable! All this complexity to save a dipstick? Ridiculous. I used to admire the brand... until I found out about all their problems. Nix to Audi.

Hi, my Audi A5 Quattro model 2014 while reversing it suddenly showing reverse gear malfunction and because of this problem I am unable to reverse my car. Can you plz suggest any quick fix of this problem. Thanks
@ Lazy hands, when I try to turn it on, a msg appears on screen stating that “Reverse gear Malfunction” and when I try to accelerate the engine, it doesn’t get any power. However, I can drive forward
No need to remove the plastic covers, if it’s not visible, that means you have check oil level manually the way it shows in video. If you have manuals in your car, you can double check there oil dipstick position in the engine, or if it has one at all.
But problem is not show oil level..read only: Switch ignitation on to configure system and There is currently no information available on the engine oil level
@@lazyhands I recently changed the oil, and after driving 500 km I checked the oil level and it was showing 1/2 level and after few minutes (driving about 40 km) I checked again and it is almost empty! I believe that the digital reading isn't accurate otherwise it means that it is consuming oil, but in this case where is the oil going? there is no white smoke coming out of the exhaust! it's frustrating!
Najib Cambris , make sure you don’t have any leaks under the engine, check under the hood and under the engine. If everything is nice and dry, probably one of the measuring sensors doesn’t work. My recommendation would be connect to the scanner and double check if it shows any codes. You could do that at your local Audi dealer or mechanic which specializes in German vehicles.

I have a4 b8 2010 2.0tdi 170hp
I drove 9000 miles from the last small service
And its show to me now After i check the oil level on flat surface and After i drive a car for about 30 minuts, its shows me about 75%Those Orange Line
I hear that from Max to minimum is exactly 9 deciliters so is that mean that my car eat about 3 deciliters in 9000 miles???
Can anybody anwser me that
Because a smalll service before this small service my line never dropped below 90%
Do i have to worry?
How often do you change your oil and filters? Once a year?
@@lazyhands
I change ever 15 000 kilometer
I always take castrol edge profesional 5w30
From my experience It should be fine, as long as computer doesn’t show MINIMUM, you don’t need to worry.
@@lazyhands
I hope my car dont eat oil
@@lazyhands does a 2015 Q5 have a oil pan gasket on the plastic oil pan.i have some oil leaks

In between
Mine says please drain oil the car calls for 4.9 quarts of oil and that’s what I put in
Thank you very much for this helpfull information
Why can’t we just stick with a dipstick !! At least you can see the colour/ quality of the oil 😡
100%
I know, who gives a shit about the oil computer. Checking oil is so easy with dipstick..lol
You have videos for all audi checking oil level?and reset maintainance boss?😁
You have to go into the dealership to reset maintenance or oil change intervals because they use a certain scan tool with a program to reset it.
So can you help me plz
Agradecido por tu video
Unbelievable! All this complexity to save a dipstick? Ridiculous. I used to admire the brand... until I found out about all their problems. Nix to Audi.
Excellent
Thank you 👍🏻

I keep getting the message saying that the car is tilted even though it isn't. Any idea on how to get it to show oil level?
what abaut A4 2008
mohammed alshammary same buddy, same, watch the video everything is there!
Everything you need to know you will find in this video, good luck!
just pop the bonnet with ignition on. instant oil level
My A4 b8 give me the oil level also when driving...
I think it’s not very accurate to take a measurement while you driving, better always double check after.
Hi, my Audi A5 Quattro model 2014 while reversing it suddenly showing reverse gear malfunction and because of this problem I am unable to reverse my car. Can you plz suggest any quick fix of this problem. Thanks
What do you mean, your rear gear doesn't turn on anymore?
@ Lazy hands, when I try to turn it on, a msg appears on screen stating that “Reverse gear Malfunction” and when I try to accelerate the engine, it doesn’t get any power. However, I can drive forward
@@asadsakhawat1755 , but when going forward do you have full power?
@@asadsakhawat1755 did you ever changed the oil in the transmission?
@@asadsakhawat1755doesn't drive the car, get the tow truck and bring to your mechanic, let him scan and check, there are no other shortcuts around.
Is that mean my 2017 Audi Q7 doesn't have a dipstick either?
First thing first just open the hood and look for dipstick, if there’s non, follow the video, good luck!
the engine block is covered by plastic lid do it need to remove it and find the dipstick?
No need to remove the plastic covers, if it’s not visible, that means you have check oil level manually the way it shows in video.
If you have manuals in your car, you can double check there oil dipstick position in the engine, or if it has one at all.
What a mission. Why remove the dipstick!?!?!?
🙃 Good!
But problem is not show oil level..read only: Switch ignitation on to configure system and There is currently no information available on the engine oil level
Gotta wait longer
Why is my oil level bar empty
Maybe because you are running out of oil... Just in case add 1 liter and double check after the oil level.
My Audi a5.20T.gearbox mulfunction.limited functionality. Does not engage gears.(multitronic)
I don't trust this I'd rather have a dipstick.
true, true
Don't buy an audi next time.
@@mikemo9727 It's most car's now.
I always got told to check engine oil when engine is cold
Yes, when your engine has a dipstick!
Most car manuals say to check it after shutting off engine for 5 min.
Then you can get it right on max line. Maybe some have a cold line.
Great video, thank you. No Dipstick? Shit Idea!
And that will be wrong if the micro switch under the bonnet is not working.
Used other car dipstick to check
you look at the pool on the floor under the exhaust
Could you please clarify your statement?

There is a video of an Audi with oil dripping out tailpipe onto garage floor..lol
