  • I will take you through my vegan journey: how I managed to influence almost every member of my family, my husband (Joseph Morgan, 22:45), and many friends to become vegan or vegetarian; what inspired me to become a vegan, and what helped me stay vegan. I’ll talk about the award-winning film Earthlings, and the impact of working on it for me and the people in my life. I’ll explain the benefits of eating a plant-based diet physically, emotionally, and creatively, and how the power of plants has affected my artistic health and slowed the effects of aging on my body. I’ll take a look at the connection between how we treat animals and our earth, and the impact it has had on society as a whole. Above all, I hope to inspire those who are considering transitioning to a vegan diet or are already on a journey to a plant-based diet; and help you to navigate family, friends, and travel as a healthy vegan.
Actress, musician and filmmaker, Persia White is well known for her eight years as a series regular in the award-winning TV series Girlfriends, as well as for her recurring role on the hit TV show The Vampire Diaries. As a musician, Persia has worked with great artists such as Gary Wallis (of Pink Floyd), Dominic Miller (of Sting), Tricky (of Massive Attack), and Big Boi (of Outkast), to name a few. As a filmmaker, Persia co-produced the award-winning documentary Earthlings (narrated by Joaquin Phoenix), and has written and produced several award-winning independent film and television projects. Persia has been a vegan for over 25 years, and a lifelong advocate for human, environmental and animal welfare. She received a Humanitarian of the Year Award in 2005 from PETA, and has sat on the board of directors for the Humane Society of the United States (8 years), and for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society with Captain Paul Watson, working to protect the world’s oceans, and the creatures who dwell in them.

Beautiful testimony. My path to where I am today was a gradual path. I am 79 years old. I became vegetarian 60 years ago. I became vegan 30 years ago. I went through many of the stages that you went through. Including the junk food stage. Today I do not eat any processed food. Mainly, fruits & veggies & beans. I am still working. I work in retail so I am on my feet for the entire shift. No sitting in retail. I do not have any aches or pains & was just rewarded with a bonus at work for having perfect attendance. You are saving lives. Keep up the good work.

Thirty year vegan here. I used to, and still do sometimes, say "I don't eat meat, and I'm allergic to eggs and dairy, and honey" interestingly, people tend to pay more attention when you say that 'a' word, and people often become quite aggressive and hateful with the v word. And people tended to not understand when the words vegan or even vegetarian, were said. Even today there is so much ignorance.

I''m glad to be reminded that some of the footage I filmed in a slaughterhouse ended up in Earthlings. I surely do not mind being called vegan.

Fantastic! 😎Thank you again Persia, for this informative and inspirational presentation, and for sharing a personal look into your, Joseph's, and Mecca's individiual journeys of becoming vegan.❤ Like you had done, I've been gradually eliminating certain things from my diet over the years, but since the live version of this presentation I've been enjoying an almost total plant based diet every day since. My beloved seafood just isn't tasting that good to me anymore and is the last to go. I've been whipping up my own vegan deliciousness in the kitchen too but can't wait for your receipe book, and hopefully some MW family cooking tutorials (with Mr. in an apron.😁) I also have Thrive and Food Revolution to read so thanks for recommending them. Keep spreading the word and have an amazing time at the VWS! Wish I could be there too. 🦋 Loads of Luv - Rhonda (W.T.)

I’ve been vegan for 3 years, my husband refuses to change his diet though his health is really declining. I’m not forcing him, but my girls eat very little meat. My daughters favorite meal is orange tofu or tofu stir fry. I know I will never eat animal products ever again because of how great I feel. I’ve gained weight because of vegan junk food and I’m trying to increase my whole plant foods to help me get back on track.
