    It works much better with instax film because they expose through the back and you don’t have the inversion problem. I made holders for instax wide out of some sheets of old 5x4 and use them in standard dark slides, with an idea of laser cutting some eventually. Works fine though it won’t auto eject as yours does. I shoot a few, unload them in a dark bag as I would normally and load a cartridge to eject via my existing (currently half disassembled) instax wide camera. Just, make sure you cover the lens when ejecting.

    I’m a little late to the game here, but I find it pretty easy to load Polaroid film in to my 4x5 sheet film holder (I made little silts on some card stock to fit the corners of the film) in my darkroom, and then I expose the film normally. After that you bring the film back to the dark room, load it back into the original film carrier and use a Polaroid camera to roll it out ( making sure not to expose the film again) it’s a lot of back and forth, unless you pre load a bunch of film carriers lol but it works pretty well and you don’t have to worry about the focal distance because the film holder keeps it flush with your camera back!

    Thanks for this video. You could make a spacer that is the width of the distance from the front of your back to the film plane with a square hole in it that you could slide under the ground glass to focus. When you get focus, pull out the spacer, remove the ground glass, attach your back and take the photo. You could also use that spacer to re-calibrate your rangefinder and then use the rangefinder to focus (for that particular lens). Keep up the good work.

    Another great and informative video. A ground glass can be made from thin translucent plastic and placed at film plane to improve focus. Great first effort, looking forward to more.

    Thanks for doing this video. I don't know if I'll be able to build something like this, but I really miss pack film for my 4x5. The Fujifilm FP-100C was a really great film, almost as good in quality as negative film, and I'm still in shock that they got rid of it.

    Wouldn’t Instax film be better for that kind of camera?
    Because Polaroid film needs a mirror to reflect the image or the images are going to be horizontally inverted, so you need to revert the pictures digitally to have the images correctly oriented.

    • @atburke6258
      @atburke6258 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if you remembered to put the back of the film facing forward in the camera.

    Thank you for all of the lessons learned and insights! I have been dreaming 🤔 💭 about doing this for a long time... slightly less interested now but still curious. At least I know what I would be getting into! Just wish Impossible Project / Polaroid Originals / Polaroid - would make AA/AAA-batteries 🔋 instead of their terrible “rechargeable” batteries... especially the first I-1 camera.

    I've been hoping for a way to use current Polaroid film in my 4x5s and also hoping somebody would bring out a new version of Polaroid packfilm or single sheets, but not much chance of that.
    Today I just heard of Lomo making a back to fit 4x5 and taking Fuji Instax Wide - I think I'll give that a try, as Instax Wide is reasonably cheap to buy if I keep my eyes open for slightly out-of-date bargains.

    Why don't yoy make a back with a ground glass wich has the same distance as the film surface ? Then you can focus precisely without math.
