    At the efficiency of laboratory-grade solar panels, an ultra-light electric car could go 20 miles a day, during the summer months, and about 7 miles during winter months. Consumer grade solar could drive it about half as far. At theoretical peak thermal efficiency, we could see upwards of 30 miles at peak daylight
    If every inch of the vehicle was covered in solar panels, at their theoretical peak efficiency (43.9%) you would generate 681.46 watts, equivalent to 0.908 horsepower. You'd be better off getting 3 moderately fit guys to tow your vehicle on bike

    • @darthquigley
      @darthquigley ปีที่แล้ว

      Still useful. The car in the video (Lightyear One) can go 380 miles on a full battery. If you drive 30 miles a day, you'd need to charge every 12 days. With the solar panels adding 20 miles a day, you'd only need to recharge every 38 days. That makes a big difference for people who can't charge at home. And that assumes the solar panels are only good for 20 miles a day. Lightyear says they can do a lot more.

    • @amentco8445
      @amentco8445 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@darthquigley A lot of claims that I'm not sure have backing. You're also left with a bunch of dud tech on your vehicle if the panels get damaged.

    • @whyisblue923taken
      @whyisblue923taken ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but those moderately fit guys eat cows, which cause global warming with their farts. It's better to just feed cockraoches and crickets to the scientists that make the panels and the guys who install them onto the car. It's not like cockroaches produce more methane than cows or spread diseases with their filth. Those men are powered by cow farts. Think of that next time they're pulling your engineless chariot, bigot!

    The adage, just because you can do it doesn't mean what you are doing needs to be done. Looks more like solutions looking for a problem instead of a problem that needs a solution. The tech was interesting but they all lacked the solution part. Glad I've never been to a CES and will not in the future.
