    The 7.4L V8 from 99 towed a max 7500 pounds, 290hp, 410lb-ft torque at 3,200rpm.
    The diesel from 99 also tows 7,500lbs got 195hp with 430lb-ft torque at 1800rpms.
    A modern ford ecoboost tows more, has more power and similar torque to the diesel except it gets 26mpg. It’s a V6. Also as an electrician a 5.5 foot bed makes more sense so I can keep my rigid pack out with tools and supplies out of the weather. Sometimes a bigger cab is more useful than a big bed. Everything else makes sense but at elevation naturally aspirated engines lose power. So I prefer to get my power from turbos rather than a less efficient NA engine.
    Great video. Your spot on about getting a lower trim level and using that $ as you need it over time to keep your rig running. Because everything is expensive such as tires and maintenance. Also it’s critical to get one you can afford during the life of the truck. Because nothing else can compare in practicality.

    There are two kinds of truck beds: Those that will hold a 4x8ft sheet of plywood or particle board, and those that won't.
    Also, on the subject of general truck size. Check how much your tractor weighs - actual weight, with FEL, ballast, and possbly your most used implement on the 3-pt - and how much trailer is needed to haul that. The combined weight of tractor and trailer, that's the minimum target towing capacity for your truck.

    Most helpful video on the topic I’ve seen in a while. The tip on investing into something with a low price tag is something people don’t want to say. They’ll just default to, maybe you can make a mid sized work or, can’t you just handle the payment

      Sorely missed already. Although the hundred dollar bills do help to dry the tears.

    well its either an f150 my grandfather had with no dash, that, or a chevy K1500 i found, with a 350 and a TH350, but no interior, it does have heat and a tachometer though, think im gonna go with the chevy, as much as i want that four on the floor, that ford has well over 300k hours on both the engine and the transmission, both are RWD, no need for AWD where im at, ive got gravel roads

    “Spend less, invest more”. The thought process you laid out there behind that was extremely interesting and I’ve never thought of it like that. Good stuff man.

      To be honest, I can convince myself that lots of things are "investments"

    I have a 4x4 grand cherokee. Do you think i could uss it like a truck and just use a trailer instead of a bed and the same function?

      Definitely. Use what you have, but if you upgrade, make sure you're getting the right machine for the job

    Hello, sir. Why do you not choose to go with a Toyota truck, like a Tundra?

    • @HomesteadBandwagon
      @HomesteadBandwagon  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Waaaay too much money in these parts. Sometimes they are double the price of a domestic. They also aren't, in my experience, meant to do as much heavy hauling. More of a commuter truck than a work truck

      @@HomesteadBandwagon thanks. I have been wondering for some time why you rarely see Toyotas owned by farmers. Usually Ram, Chevy, Ford, and GMC. I am looking for a truck to start a junk hauling business. Also need to travel 180 miles to my Grandma's, occasionally. I do some mowing jobs and handyman, but want to get into hauling junk and farm odd jobs.

      Don't get me wrong- I love an old square body Yota for romping around, but I think 10000 crusty old farmers probably have trucks figured out
