- The world of the DC Comics is one that tells a lot of different stories but there is one element which is pretty much common in all of them. The element of darkness, which gives the DC characters the essence of their origin and builds a personality that no fan can ever get enough of. Hey guys and welcome back to a brand new origin video with Marvelous Videos. If you are a DC fan, you already know that this video is going to be super exciting. A supervillain from the DC Universe with a back story which is surprisingly too dark to handle.
Well, how could a supervillain ever become a great supervillain with a boring history right? There has to be sadness and pain and suffering to lead them to the path of becoming who they have chosen to be. In today’s video we have the story of a ruthless Gotham mob boss, Black Mask. His latest appearance in the 2020 film, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, left quite an amazing mark on his profile. But unlike the good looks of Ewan McGregor, Batman’s enemy Black Mask is not all that handsome. Well, he technically does not even need to be when he can just wear his iconic skull mask and be the mastermind of a criminal enterprise. - บันเทิง
I feel like Black Mask would fit really well into the The Batman universe especially if they emphasize the mobster aspect

Like many members of Batman's rogue gallery, Black Mask is in many ways a dark reflection of Batman. Both Bruce and Roman were influenced by their parents; the difference being that Bruce's parents loved him while Roman's cared more about social status and upholding appearances than their own son. Roman was most likely jealous of Bruce in that he had loving parents whereas he did not; it is safe to say that he found their deaths amusing as a means of revenge toward Bruce, the one who had the childhood and parents that he felt deserved.
In addition both men hide behind a mask that they believe represents their inner self, their true self. The billionaire playboy and philanthropic socialite Bruce Wayne being the mask and the dark vigilante Batman being his true self. Black Mask on the other hand being Roman's true self; a violent, dangerous and sadistic crime lord. The difference being that Batman is able to hide behind his mask whereas Black Mask cannot both to his identity being known and also how the mask left him disfigured and/or is fused to his skin.
In my opinion, the Birds of Prey version failed to capture the essence of Black Mask and the best interpretations that remain true to the comics are the versions in the animated movie Batman Under the Red Hood and the video game Batman Arkham Origins. Both portrayed Black Mask as a ruthless mobster that felt real and more menacing.
To be fair birds of prey wasn't that great of a film

Imagine DC Comics Black and his Criminal Underworld Organization vs. Marvel Comics Kingpin and his Criminal Underworld Organization, interesting Fight/Battle and Game of Witts or IQ! Batman and Daredevil can be the Commentators!
Would make an interesting Death Battle.

Im sorry, but i could only see Kingpin win. He is physically stronger and he managed to do something the Black Mask doesn't: he has 0 competition. Wilson IS the biggest mafia man in New York, while old Mask has to dispute power agaisn't Penguin (who is the biggest), Falcone and Marone.

Kingpin is the absolute GOD of organized crime, no one could even come close to Wilson fisks intelligence when it come to being a literal kingpin. Regardless what universe he's in, whether its a nuclear, zombie or cannibal apocalypse, this man always knows how to create profit from his situation. Black mask would get bodied by kingpin and that is a fact.

Batman: Under The Red Hood was the first time i heard of Black Mask, he called for Jason's head to be mounted on his wall as a way of stated how dead he wanted him to be. speaking of which, do a video on the origins of Red Hood the first one which is Joker and the current one that's Jason Todd.

Black Mask
Used to be my personal favorite Batman villain, but not anymore cause how he's always underutilized and horribly mistreated by DC. And nowhere was that apparent than in the Arkham series, new comics, cartoons, animated movies, CW Batwoman, and of course Birds of Prey movie. A movie that completely destroyed Black Mask's character, by turning him from a powerful, ruthless, and terrifying mob boss into a petty, woman-hating, man child who wants his daddy's approval.
And it's shame cause if you read some of his old comics from 1986 to 2010 when he died, he's actually an awesome Batman villain who has a dark origin, is actually interesting to explore, he was terrifying and is a villain that managed to outsmart Batman and become a complete overlord of Gotham City criminal underworld in the War Games storyline and has a bloody rivalry with Catwoman
I disagree about Black Mask being mistreated in *Batwoman* , it's a really poor TV show but I only watched season 2 because Black Mask, as the season's big bad (alongside Safiyah) was awesome in it, played superbly by Peter Outerbridge.
He stole any scene he was in, and turned out to be a great character in a bad show.
When it comes to recent comic book appearances, Roman was awesome in "Red Hood and the Outlaws: Rebirth", and as the big bad in "Suicide Squad & the Revolutionaries" in 2020/2021...
Recently, he also became a recurring enemy of Damian Wayne and the Teen Titans (after Damian shot him in the head and kept him prisoner for months), but some of his best stories are in the pages of *Catwoman* , who's had several dangerous encounters with Sionis over the years.
But sure, he's been treated very badly by the Arkham games, and considering that the main reason I was super hyped about *Arkham Origins* was because I though he would be the main boss.
The twist really disappointed me, even if Joker turned out great too.
And while everyone praises how he is in *Batman: Under the Red Hood* , he's actually much more dangerous (and funny) in the storyline this movie was adapted from, "Batman: Under the Hood" ...
They reaaally nerfed him in the movie, by having Joker again getting the best of him, something that doesn't happen in the comics.
And in "Birds of Prey" , yeah it sucked how McGregor didn't wear the mask and acted very unlike Sionis... it might have been better to either create a new character for Ewan, or to stick close to the chara...

Maybe the "mistreatment" statement isn't completely true
He was good in Red Hood outlaw and some comics you mentioned and he had a lot of good moments in Batwoman show, which does make him the best part about that show, compared to every character in it, even if there are episodes that belittles him
But for the most part in the recent Tini Howard's Catwoman run, Future State, Arkham series, Catwoman Hunted, and especially in Birds of Prey, he's not well portrayed
Nowadays, from all things I've seen him in, he's always portrayed as a flamboyant incompetent buffoon who gets outsmarted by everyone, throws a temper tantrum like a child and gets always beaten easily.
@@randallflagg3700 but if there's one thing we both agree on is that it's in Catwoman stories where he does truly shine as a great villain, cause of the bitter rivalry Black Mask has with Catwoman. Which is kind of reminds me of the rivalry between Mlada and Bill from Kill Bill volume 1 and 2

If you ignore the God awful Garbage Version of Birds of Prey(which the Actor should have played the Joker) and Batwoman,you will see that his one of the best Dangerous DC Villain that feels Realistic.

The Birds of Prey movie left an amazing mark on his profile? Did we watch the same movie? The only mark he left was the red one at the end of the movie, when he splat like a goddamn joke! Cause here's the thing. Ewan McGregor playing Roman Sionis is actually a perfect choice. A lot of people know him as a brutal mob boss with a deformed skeleton black face, however, they forget he wasn't all that. In fact, he was a handsome man born from a highly rich family, exactly like Bruce Wayne, because Roman was supposed to be a dark mirror of Bruce Wayne. Plus Ewan does resemble Roman from the comics in both the look and facial expressions, so this is perfect.
However, the problem is that Ewan McGregor is not playing that character. He's playing this tool, a flamboyant woman-hating gay man who's a nightclub owner and who constantly throws outbursts like a teenage girl on her period whenever he doesn't get what he wants

Man, it really has "Fantabulous" in the title. I remember it was added to the title a week after it was released. It's like they knew how stupid it sounded, but waited until after opening weekend and added it to the title anyway. I hate that movie. The new Suicide Squad was really good. I watched that thing twenty times.

No. He says "He (Black Mask) blame the Crows(?) and the previous Batwoman for the murder of his daughter Cersei Sionis, on the same day when Alice led a mass breakout in Arkham Asylum where Cersei was imprisoned." In other words, the breakout and Cersei's death appear to be unrelated.
@@Gnomleif something about that still doesn't add up, it could've just been a random woman that was killed by the crows(Black Mask thinking Batwoman was in cahoots with em) while the real Cersei participated in the mass breakout Alice orchestrated during her imprisonment, it's the same logic used in *Batman:Arkham Asylum,* where just when we thought Commissioner Gordon was killed by the escaped Blackgate prisoners turned out to be a random Arkham guard, an illusion brought on by Scarecrow's poisons

@@glennusher4160 minor issues it wasn't perfect but there were so many more amazing things about it like Alfred and all of his badass moments, Penguins character development into a villain and a leader, Bruce and Selina relationship, Gordon and Harvey's partnership and friendship, Barnes character, Zsasz, Riddler, Mad hatter most characters were done perfectly and the fights were entertaining and fun
