Arma 3, in general, is the most awesome thing invented in gaming. It's definitively the game I have the most hours in. I'm no war vet, but I did my dues for King and country, so with what I know, it's up there among the most realistic milsims.
You can also play this content with other mods and make it even more challenging and realistic. My group uses the ACE3 Medical system combined with KAT Medical, so when someone goes down you absolutely have to employ TCCC effectively if you even want a chance to get them back up. ACE3 adds many different types of wounds, anything from minor abrasions to large crush wounds, punctures, avulsions, bone fractures, lacerations, etc. KAT Medical also expands things further to include features like airway management. As a lead medic, you might regularly have 2-3 guys working on one patient applying tourniquets, splints, checking vitals, performing CPR, setting up IVs (saline, plasma, Blood - make sure it's the right type), checking for airway obstructions, applying hemostatic agents for clotting while packing wounds, then wrapping them up with elastic bandages, etc. The way we prefer to play: if you have a severe wound, you must be moved to a higher level of care to get a "full heal" before you're able to be reinserted back into the fight as a "reinforcement". And that depends on MEDEVAC / CASEVAC / transport availability. The challenge of managing a mass casualty event, compiling ACE and MIST reports, throwing together a 9-Line, directing LZ operations for extract, etc. just adds a level of game play that simply doesn't exist in any other game. Arma 3 can be played just about any way you want to play it.
Also heard they used old WWII BAR magazine webbing for their magazines and extra gear because it was much better than the equipment they were originally given
My father was in the Vietnamese communist army, but he was too young to fight in the Vietnam war. He was a Laotian that happened to be living in Vietnam, and got into their special forces as a radio operator as part of a sapper team. My dad is fluent in Laotian, Vietnamese and French and that helped him a lot at the time. As a special unit, he told me they had freedom of choice to pick their own weapons and he chose the m1 carbine because of how heavy his radio was. He usually didn’t talk about his experience, but one night when he was drunk with his friends, he told me during the sino-Vietnamese war, they took heavy casualties. The outpost was in a remote mountainous area, and there was heavy rain. So they were unable to evacuate the bodies from their camp. He had to sleep near the dead bodies for a few days. He was wounded in the leg during a firefight and medically discharged. Of course he moved to the states back in the 80s. I guess that war messed him up and he hates communism.
Arma is one of the few games that is consistently played (In the MilSIm Units at least) by Prior service veterans. It is in a way a game to play when you feel like being back in the Army for a few hours without re-enlisting for years. Most milsim missions consist of walking for hours and talking about military service followed by 15 minutes of gun fire.
Glad to see yalls take on the game. Was an honor to meet you that night in the Zoom call Jason. Semper Fi brother. I was honored to be a part of this amazing team and got to lend my voice to the DLC. Was so glad to see the actual vets involved with the story and so many military vets involved in the development. Rob, Sav, Sam, myself, and many others served in their respective nations militaries and lent their love and passion to this project. It is something to see vets making games based on their experiences instead of all the same old "Hollywood" gameplay that we have been fed over the years. Keep up the great work guys, loving it.

3:47 Prior to modern times, Vietnam projected their military strength onto Cambodia and Laos (so much so that Cambodia was a vassal state fairly recently prior to the war), so it’s less that they “got something out of it” and more that they just didn’t want to piss them off
As I started living in laos and learned the history, it interests me to get the insight of veterens of both sides, met a reconaissance marine who was stationed in Laos, forgot the operation but he showed pictures of his downed helicopter when I visited him in the states. love these videos!
my grandfather was usmc stationed in the An Hoa pronounced "An Wah" that village is actually in the game, sadly his combat base isnt in the game. but he was there as a machine gunner during the Tet Offensive. he said the same shit, you cant see the enemy most of the time (besides the tet when they ran 10ft up to him) he said you can smell them in the jungle, he also said the same thing, when you get ambushed you shit your pants, youre shaking, you lay down and just start shooting blindly, he says your not even looking, youre just shoving your face in the ground to get lower. they all smoked weed nobody gave a fuck. it was a free for all on what weapons you can take with you, hed take his m60, or a thompson, or 2 m2 carbines sawed off to be pistols. m79 grenade launchers, but he said most of the time the enemy was within the safety det range on the grenades so the 40mm would just go into the enemy, theyed run and blow up as soon as they got out of that range. for some reason im the only one he really told this shit too. he mostly just likes to talk about hookers and smoking weed when he was in vietnam tho. he also laughed about butt stocking little kids away because they would run up and steal shit out of your pockets, sometimes putting hand grenades in marines pockets. south koreans had a base near him outside the an hoa village, he said they were fucking brutal, they would waste civilians if one guy shot at them from the village, and the south koreans would cut off everyones head and put them on their chest which he took a lot of pictures off. and americans 100% put skulls on spikes outside their base, and dudes would have ear necklaces. vietnam seems like fucking hell on earth.
he also said out of his base alone they would be 300 american KIA a month. when he first got there he was scared shitless for a couple months, wondering wtf he got himself into, he says after awhile you lose that fear and give 0 fucks to point where if you get shot at most people dont even care to take cover or go prone, they just laugh and shoot back while the new guys were eating dirt. then the last month when youre about to leave youre scared shitless again. only to come back home to fucking liberals calling you baby killers. and "White Room" by Eric Clapton was their jam
Arma is a ton of fun when people take it juuust seriously enough. Some people go way too overboard with how serious they take the game and it can kill the fun, but keeping units organized is almost always a must. People that are super into role playing for this game tend to get mad at me when I'm intoxicated on a weekend and volunteer to be a squad leader or higher, though.
In this DLC you can actually play music in the helicopter, the pilot has an option called "Radio Jukebox" which is basically a list of pre-selected songs that you can actually play ingame and the players that are in or around the helicopter will be able to listen to the music
"Sorry bout that" was pronounced by the guys as "Sin loy(rhymes with "boy") Weapon mods. One guy, I think in FOB2 had chopped an M-79 into a pistol. Fired it once and broke his wrist. Only trick I did on my weapon was to polish the selector switch so you could go from safe to fire or full auto, with no click as the detent dropped into its recesses. And as far as I knew, we could carry anything. I owned a shotgun, an AK 47, an M-16, a Browning High Power, and a S&W Stainless Chief. One funny about weaponry was when I first went to Vietnam, I had a Sears camp hatchet. They made me sign papers that I was bringing a "weapon" into Vietnam. re night time in the jungle. I was with a company and night fell. We had found there was an enemy position a few hundered yards away near or on a road. Some genius at baae ordered us to move quietly up and engage them. We had "radio trouble" right away and had to wait until daybreak to restore coms. The M-79 barrel could be cut shorter. The grenade just needs to get the right spin before it arms. But the range would be reduced. Those "Pots" were the "Plain of Jars."
Wave after wave of VC. At night while trying to build a fob. No modern weapons. Enemy screaming talking. Tracers frags petrol bombs. Scary to play gets the heart going.

Yeah, the Vietnamese, especially Ho Chi Minh and his Generals were largely incredibly competent leaders. It's especially astounding when you consider that these leaders all learned their craft almost from scratch. They learned from text books and war diaries and humiliated the French first, and eventually the US as well. There was this pervasive belief in the US Armed Forces at the time, mostly among the top brass; that the US' Army could defeat any small nation through shear Economic Might alone. It makes sense to a degree, I mean that's what World War II taught Generals and Political Leaders in the West (Russia learned the blood price lesson). The issue of course is that at that point, the US Army had almost no real experience or frame of reference as a Nation fighting to defend their own borders. The closest the US got was the War of 1812, and perhaps technically the Civil War. The US was entering into a culturally very different nation. The terrain was not exactly suited to combined arms in the least, which significantly hindered the United State's capabilities. The situation facing the US Forces in Vietnam at the time was such that commanders felt they had little to no choice but to send Squads on Patrols into areas where NVA were suspected. Not to go in and clean them out, but to instead serve as bait to draw the NVA into the open. At that point the Patrol would call in artillery and / or air support to try and kill as many of the NVA as they could. In the long run this ruined morale, and ended up giving many soldiers a sense that their commanding officers considered them nothing more than Cannon Fodder. That's why you hear about Fragging happening so much during the Vietnam war. Nowadays, the top brass in the US Forces are a little bit wiser these days. - First we have the whole "Hearts and Minds" initiative. This, in part, includes actually educating soldiers about the culture they're about to get thrown into. The rest involves several programs and initiatives to provide food, medical care and other services to those affected by the war. Sure, this happened to an extent in Vietnam, but nowadays it's considered a far more integral part of any foreign Campaign. - Then there's generally knowing how to fight Insurgents far more effectively than previously. That's more or less what Vietnam was, at least in tactical style. Proper counter-insurgency tactics play a key role in modern conflicts, many of those lessons were learned in Vietnam.
Oh man I would love to watch you guys actually sit down and talk to Vietnam vets and drink bear. My uncle fought in nam so he doesn't like to talk about it. This is close as I can get to learning of what my uncle went through
What would happen with snorers in this situation? I mean, if you're sleeping getting ready for a mission in the middle of the jungle, surely snorers would compromise you? Some sound like an Apache helicopter taking off.
The only problem with this mod is something that developers can't do sht about, that is the fact that players will use headsets to communicate. In RL, low-tech warfare in jungles have a challenge of it's own, that is to communicate. Jungles are very muffed but, yet, "silence-ish" enough to let any fart bein heard (and smelled) a few hundred yards away. One of focuses in SIGS course is to teach how to sound like the jungle and don't sound like anything else. Until the late 90 or early 2000's, personal radios were like alien-tech in South America (probably in Vietnam too), but even nowadays our recruits have to learn the old ways, because in jungle environment you can't rely even in modern equipment... so, still aim with the irons, learn to aways have an eye in your comrades hands/faces and don't let the jungle eat you. Thanx for this video! Cheers!

This looks fantastic. Jocko interviewed John "Tilt" Striker Meyer and his stories were just incredible. Hollywood doesn't need to make stuff up, they just need to educate themselves on history. One of the many things that stuck out to me about that interview were the sappers that he talked about. This looks great. Thx for showcasing this for us.
Reminds me how apparently for the movie Hacksaw Ridge they cut out/toned down a lot of Desmond’s real wartime exploits because they were afraid audience wouldn’t believe what they were seeing and assume it was just Hollywood being Hollywood. That’s what I heard anyways.
@@andrewp8284 Ya I read and heard that in interviews. Tora Tora Tora experienced the same thing. The writers kept finding all these crazy things that happened on 7 December and they finally decided that if they tried to put all of them in or even a majority, people would think that they were making it up. Truth is often stranger than fiction. Hollywood should have learned a long time ago to just go with the truth. It's far more impressive, sobering, and incredible than anything they'd create out of thin air.

Clarification: "S.O.G. Prairie Fire" is D.L.C. (downloadable content) for "Arma 3"; you need Arma 3 in order to play Prairie Fire; it is not a standalone game. A3 is a sandbox and it is highly modifiable. If you never use the first-person (you can use third-person or even a top-down) perspective and never fire a weapon, you can still have fun in Arma. There are mods that make wind and temperatures affect ballistics, add a relatively in-depth medical system, add turbulence and the possibility for air resistance to rip off wings, add the ability to drag bodies, or add vehicles and guns, etc.
My grandfather flew bombers in Vietnam, and my great grand father served in ww1 and I think a little of ww2 so when this came out I thought it was dope

Some of them wore canteen pouches because canteen pouches can hold more magazines which I thought was a cool detail that they took from history
Pretty intense. He has every right to hate it.
Also jockos has 3 episodes with dick thompson and that dude is a fucking legend. Hard as they come.
Jockos podcast 181 with John Stryker Meyer is fucking amazing. S.o.g. was absolutely insane. Balls the size of Volkswagen
True
Never played Arma. Don't have a PC. Is it good?
my grandpa flew a f-80 in vietnam laying down WP so napalm could hit their target. He flew a lot of other planes and missions throughout his air force career, but damn i wished i asked him more about his time in Vietnam. I was a kid sadly and didn't understand the value of true stories like that from actual people, especially people related to me. If you ever have a chance to ask about history, don't let it slip. there's not that many left
I love El Cid's Peace Train story! Never think of of that song the same way again.
Makes that song a lot more bad ass in my humble opinion
@@Patchaddictedpolymath Certainly speaks to the chaos and wild circumstances of war.
Loved the reactions, I really like how you don't pull punches and are brutally honest. I think that's one of the biggest incentives for watching this channel- we get the raw, unadulterated view of two Ex-SOFs. Anyways, keep up the good work, and I'd suggest analyzing big battles of history so we can get your tactical takes on waging warfare!
Thanks for watching and we appreciate the comments.
SOG inovated foregrips, red dot sights, and a variety of other weapon modifications that are still in use today.
But not the Nightvision Sight. That one goes to the germans
Love to see the production quality raising every episode. Keep it up guys, entertaining as always.
Thanks! Will do.Much appreciated our next big goal is 100K Subs! Spread the word about our channel! Spread some video links around! We wouldn't be here without the Savage Army! Thanks for watching!
That tall white guy in the picture at 1:20 is actually from Easy Company from the show Band of Brothers, and he helped start Delta Force. His name is Burr Smith, you can look him up. He wasn't shown in the show Band of Brothers though.
And Burr Smith also was with I think the CIA in Laos doing some clandestine operations and assisting the Laotians to fight guerilla tactics
Great video and channel btw Patrick and Jason
Thats so cool!
Would love to see John Stryker-Meyer on for a war stories and beer 💯👍🏻
All the videos this week! You guys are spoiling us! Love the Savage flag btw
Yes I was gonna ask you guys to watch this
Appreciate the support! Spread the word about the channel! Our next big goal is 100K subs and we're close thanks to you!
I was happy to see this.
To make sure everyone knows,
all of this is in Arma 3, and can be made in Arma 3.
Sorry I missed you's guy's. I was away visiting my kids and then a wedding for one of my PJ brothers... Jimi Jones-Shorten "Wild Carrot"
We will connect soon!! We definitely need to play!
Having put almost 100 hours into this game since buying it last Month I can honestly say it is the best and most intense gaming experience I have had in over 25 years
3:47 Prior to modern times, Vietnam projected their military strength onto Cambodia and Laos (so much so that Cambodia was a vassal state fairly recently prior to the war), so it’s less that they “got something out of it” and more that they just didn’t want to piss them off
As I started living in laos and learned the history, it interests me to get the insight of veterens of both sides, met a reconaissance marine who was stationed in Laos, forgot the operation but he showed pictures of his downed helicopter when I visited him in the states. love these videos!
Shit got so intense even the dog got hyped up.
my grandfather was usmc stationed in the An Hoa pronounced "An Wah" that village is actually in the game, sadly his combat base isnt in the game. but he was there as a machine gunner during the Tet Offensive. he said the same shit, you cant see the enemy most of the time (besides the tet when they ran 10ft up to him) he said you can smell them in the jungle, he also said the same thing, when you get ambushed you shit your pants, youre shaking, you lay down and just start shooting blindly, he says your not even looking, youre just shoving your face in the ground to get lower. they all smoked weed nobody gave a fuck. it was a free for all on what weapons you can take with you, hed take his m60, or a thompson, or 2 m2 carbines sawed off to be pistols. m79 grenade launchers, but he said most of the time the enemy was within the safety det range on the grenades so the 40mm would just go into the enemy, theyed run and blow up as soon as they got out of that range. for some reason im the only one he really told this shit too. he mostly just likes to talk about hookers and smoking weed when he was in vietnam tho. he also laughed about butt stocking little kids away because they would run up and steal shit out of your pockets, sometimes putting hand grenades in marines pockets. south koreans had a base near him outside the an hoa village, he said they were fucking brutal, they would waste civilians if one guy shot at them from the village, and the south koreans would cut off everyones head and put them on their chest which he took a lot of pictures off. and americans 100% put skulls on spikes outside their base, and dudes would have ear necklaces. vietnam seems like fucking hell on earth.
he also said out of his base alone they would be 300 american KIA a month. when he first got there he was scared shitless for a couple months, wondering wtf he got himself into, he says after awhile you lose that fear and give 0 fucks to point where if you get shot at most people dont even care to take cover or go prone, they just laugh and shoot back while the new guys were eating dirt. then the last month when youre about to leave youre scared shitless again. only to come back home to fucking liberals calling you baby killers. and "White Room" by Eric Clapton was their jam
Clearance Clearwater Run Through The Jungle needs to be playing right about now.
Yay more arma videos lets go!!! also this arma CDLC really kicked ass it's amazing
Agreed! Appreciate the support! Spread the word about the channel! Our next big goal is 100K subs and we're close thanks to you!
Always love seeing these guys pop up in my news feed, makes it even better being Arma 3.
I love how you have Vets and TH-camrs playing the game together
That's awesome, I haven't played Arma 3 in a while but this makes me want to jump on and play it.
"Sorry bout that" was pronounced by the guys as "Sin loy(rhymes with "boy")
Weapon mods.
We NEEEED a SAVAGE ACTUAL podcast asap tbh you guys def got enough to talk about and should know enough people to have gnarly interviews should 100% kick it off when you do the Mac v sog shit with John Stryker not to mention the $$$ podcast is making rite now @SavageActual
Thanks for your vote of confidence!
Some sound like an Apache helicopter taking off.
oh damn, they feature shermanator's gameplay. no wonder the voice is so familiar.
Cheers!
true words!
Guys, when it comes to content, you always deliver. To piggyback on your recent SCP react vid, if you want to see a game that blends a military FPS with paranormal elements, check out a series called F.E.A.R. It’s incredible.
Wow great video guys! But that bonus at the end is PURE GOLD!! Amazing!! Keep up with all the good work!
I love that flag you guys got there, that should be part of your merchandise
We can give you a link where you can order them.
@@SAVAGEActual Please do!
@@SAVAGEActual oh I would love a link, looks sick
@@SAVAGEActual me too!! Link please #NotTooProudToBeg😹
There's a video where the streamer Operator Drewsky plays it with an actual Vietnam vet, something kind of 70 years old hero plays his old war in PC, it's too fkn crazy to see that
we're all one team
Do they have a, "Napalm and Rotting Jungle" scented candle? :)
Awesome video guys! I’m glad Stryker Meyer was involved and the other SOG guys that makes it that much more kick ass. I’m a stickler for realism.
Love watching these guys!
Appreciate the support! Spread the word about the channel! Our next big goal is 100K subs and we're close thanks to you!
MACV-SOG Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group
@@andrewp8284 Totally agree. When you listen to interviews or read accounts about his experience, it's nothing short of incredible.
Y’all need to start an arma group, where your fans who have arma, can join you in maybe a monthly operation and connect a bit. I feel like SAVAGE Actual would skyrocket if y’all posted a once a month arma operation with the community.
Thanks for the info!
The content you guys put out is getting better, and better, and better!
42:45 “I can't imagine flying through the damn sandbox. I'll keep my jungle any day!”
They put soo much detail in this alone the Huey,Cobra and Cayuse skins are insane!!
At 25:00 Looks like the Plain of Jars in Laos, from my limited understanding they had importance in funerary customs, some of the jars have full bodies inside. Very old and very fascinating location. Definitely worth looking into some more.
It is the plain of jars, it’s in northern Laos. They are naturally formed granite.
@@b-52eggbeast88 I'm an idiot, they are in Laos, I'll correct my comment, much appreciated.
Awesome, I did not know this part of the story of Vietnam of the S.O.G guys. Really interesting.
Also, y'all real mean to the dog, like come on, maaaan xD
We love you Jason! Remember you from generation kill, keep up the good work man.
Hey Jason, referring to episode 1 what does a 50 Cal look like when it hits a person?
The sog vets playing arma 3 should make a twitch or youtube channel!
We are all over that
For everyone who worked on the game the SOG guys and everyone behind the scenes. You did a great job!
Thank you! (Rob here representin’ the team)
Love macv/sog. Tilt, Savage and those guys are beast man!! The true SF guys man!! Smh truly badasses!!
You guys should check that Russian live fire training video and the footage they released showing them in action.
Feel like there was a missed opportunity to open with some classic rock...
Can't lead a 5 hour 15km patrol in COD or BF. Nothing like a long slow walk in the mountains with the boys.
It's awesome when you guys interview other people!
They’re not just using the same engine as arma 3 it’s actual downloadable content (dlc) for arma 3
I gotta say, this is probably the best dlc I've ever played. Been playing for the past week or so and I've had an absolute blast. Hard to believe such a small team made this. I've met some awesome people on Mike force and ran some amazing missions. 10/10 would recommend. It's not perfect but damn is it good!
Just wanted to Add the music is indeed from the game and plays fittingly throughout
Best 20 quid i ever spent i love Arma 3 and ive been modding it for years but this is far and away the best thing to come to arma 3. You guys should look up Mikeforce which is a gamemode on this Arma DLC. its essentially counter insurgency missions across the whole region. Great content. Cheers!
Reacting to game: "I can say with confidence, that this is in fact a video game."
ARMA is the type of video game where you can get War veteran PTSD and military EP
I genuinely did not know this was made by the Unsung team until I watched this video... guess that shows how much research I did.
Tilt said in an interview that Macv/sog had 120% casualties...
One of better sog vids iv seen, always interesting seeing guys like this with arma etc have they reacted to any sqaud stuff?
My grandfather flew bombers in Vietnam, and my great grand father served in ww1 and I think a little of ww2 so when this came out I thought it was dope
This makes me even more excited to pick this up.
So happy you made this shit. Wasn’t expecting it so soon. I commented on Overlord for it. You guys rule.
I would love to play arma with you guys sometimes, I have some experience making missions and with the right mods it's for sure one of the most intense games!!
Damn, this is a really interesting video! Thanks guys, this was a great watch!
You guys should watch one of those milsim air soft videos

Surprised they didn't comment on the textbook aussie peel they just did.
00:29 Just so u guys know... the dudes on this picture are not Marines. As a matter o fact, they ain’t even U.S troops... they are South Vietnamese soldiers.
