Nice tutorial, Ed. Nice first flight, Dart! I like the new screen protector for your smart controller, Ed. It really cuts the glare. Looking forward to part two!
Good instructional video on how to set up dual controllers. I have the Mavic 2 pro and have also forgotten to remove the gimbal cover before turning on the motors. I wondered if I had damaged it in any way but am more relieved after seeing your reaction. Obviously a best practice to remove it first but not a disaster if you occasionally forget.
I did the same thing on my mavic pro forgot to take the gimble lock clip off!! There was no damage to gimble that has to be part of your pre-flight checklist which now I'm doing
Howdy Ed, Nicely Done! The dual controller setup is a great feature, to bad it now available for ALL DJI drones. Those bees were not too pleased with the drone, I wonder how many bees you killed during the attack of our drone, LOL! Great tutorial for using the dual controller features on the M2's. I'll be watching for Part 2 of this series, thank you and take care!
Can you set up the controller for the secondary remote to yaw the camera with the sticks like you can on the Inspire or is the only way he can yaw camera is via the tap and slide (Blue circle)? Nice video. Loved the bees!
The secondary controller can yaw the gimbal, but not yawing the drone. For that reason in the video is showed that you can see the propellers of the drone, that is imposible with the Mavic 2 Pro with just one controller.
Thanks Ed! Was curious how the new feature worked. I have an ongoing drone job that I might buy a mavic 2 zoom for a backup drone and will have an additional controller. I use the iPad Pro as my viewfinder, so much better than your phone!
Another good video, Ed. One thing I notice is when your actually flying (and talking) the video seems to move right along. In other words, by the time ya'll brought the M2Pro back, there was only a couple of minutes of video left. (Huh! 21 minutes went by already?!?). Where as, when I watch an informative drone video w/o any footage, my minimal brain starts to get snoozy. And it's Spring, bee swarming seems to be typical this time of year.
Nice tutorial. Are there any distance restraints using two controllers? Do they have to be close enough to communicate with each other OR can you have them at different locations to increase the range of vlos and the amount of area the drone could cover, in a search and rescue or similar situation?
They don't need to be in close proximity to each other, just within range of the drone. Might be handy for operating across large distances where one person can trade off with the other depending on who has line of sight.
I purchased a zoom just after they came out and it's great for real estate and some of the street mapping I am doing. The zoom function is a must for me. I don't think the dual controller would be for me as I have enough trouble with just one controller :-)
Cool update Ed.... Only thing is I dont have anyone near me who owns another MAvic 2 Pro or Zoom ...... buzzzzzzzzzzz ! PS how do you recrod the screen of the controller I have the CrystalSky ?
@@HiethGeorge I should clarify, the Smart Controller has internal screen recording. The regular Mavic 2 controller does not, but you can screen record directly on the iPhone. That's how we captured both screens.
Hieth George I would like to know that too, does this record feature exist in the CrystalSky? Also, how do you like the CrystalSky and which one do you have? Thx
I have seen 2 videos of you while calibrating, One were you have to put the drone vertically, This one says put the nose down but shows a image of a drome vertically. Any Idea wich is right??
Ed I found the solution to MacBook not reading the mov and jpeg files, I read someone post Mavic prob did not have time to finish writing to SD card turn everything on and fly around for a little while, worked great was able to save all the files from the flights the day before.
I have a ? I will be a beginner as well and really want a drone to take with me to Curacao island, what is a good drone for a beginner like me that will give me great distance & picture Another? I have a Samsung galaxy S10e what drone works best
Can you use 2 controller to extend the range? Let’s say the other controller is 4 miles away.. so when the controller A has weak signal.. controller B take over
I'm having problems connecting my smart controller and the standard one. It's either or, one is either connected or disconnected, I set the smart controller to primary and the standard one to secondary.
I was using the Zoom primarily for a while, but in the last few months I've been using the Pro. I kind of flip flop back and forth lol. Maaaaybe the Zoom a tad bit more because it has a wider camera angle plus the zoom feature.
@@EdRickerVlogs Gotcha! I have yet to try the Mavic 2 Pro since owning the Zoom and feel I am missing something, haha. Definitely agree though the zoom feature is killer, especially for compressing the background.
We basically went through the dual controller functions I know about. For application in addition to training, you could use it for perhaps emergency situations where one pilot needs to focus on flying while another person is involved in search and rescue. Another could be when a non-Part 107 pilot needs to fly for commercial work. That pilot could use the secondary remote control while a Part 107 holder monitors the flight on the primary.
If no primary controller is present during flight, does the secondary controller become primary? Since you mentioned that secondary does not have all features available... Or do you have to bind it again?
I just noticed a bunch of icons on the map that I never investigated before. Also Im wondering how you know if the camera is oriented forward in the dual control mode.
@5:00 it says to Point the noise Down and yet the Photo is on its SIDE????? I have seen others calibrate it (and maybe you too) have it on its SIDE...???
That's a pretty big mistake not taking off gimbal cover.. I've seen Phantom 4's gimbal motors being completely burnt out by not taking their gimbal cover off...

Hi Ian, you normally record with the microSD card in the drone itself. We just screen recorded to show what we're doing.

You can recenter the gimbal in the Gimbal Settings. Press "Gimbal Forward/Down" twice and it'll be centered and level with the horizon.
