    Great project! Where can I find the g code to run this printer? I'm currently building and have no experience coding. Thank you.

    • @paulbyerlee2529
      @paulbyerlee2529 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick Flournoy his build is on Instructables. The firmware is written to an Arduino. All electronics on this build are shields that can be bought of eBay ECT. The printer can be run on any of the free slicer programs. A slicer generates G Code that tells the thing what to do. If you really want to get into 3d printing then first try learning fusion 360 a free cad program that lets you design what you want to print. This will give you a taste of if this is for you. If you just want to print stuff off thingyverse then just buy a 3d printer. There are some for under $200 which may be the same cost as this build and a lot less work

    • @rickflournoy7556
      @rickflournoy7556 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info Paul Byerlee. I had already found what I was looking for and have started learning Fusion 360! Funny how you were thinking exactly what I was doing to get started. I'm teaching middle school students to not be afraid to try something they don't know how to do or try something new, so building a 3d printer and actually using it was the personal example I needed to motivate them.

    • @paulbyerlee2529
      @paulbyerlee2529 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rick Flournoy all cool just one last detail to add.. The Arduino will need to be uploaded with the firmware off Instructables. To do this go to the Arduino home page and download their programming software. Open the firmware file from Instructables select your board type in this case mega 2560 and write the file to your board using a USB cable. There are heaps of video's describing how to do this so I won't go into to much detail. Take it slow and check your work and you will be fine. Any specific questions I will help where I can.

      @rickflournoy7556 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ThomasWorkshop

      It's not aluminium plate. It's a PCB board. It was the easier way to make Z endstop.

    can use of plexi glass for body structure?

    • @rohan98k
      @rohan98k 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same doubt but I went with aluminum itself because plexiglass can crack over time and also it's difficult to tap threads in it. Where I stay it was more or less the same price. If you want to go with something that you can laser cut then polycarbonate is the best alternative
