  • Countless people have called for an Oasis reunion since the band collapsed in 2009, so why isn't it happening... and is there hope that it might?

Man I'm loving Liam's solo stuff lately, I'm honestly not too worried if Oasis do get back together. It might be best to leave well enough alone, they achieved monumental things. Why overstay your welcome? Now we get two great bands releasing music instead of one, Liam and Noel's. However, I do hope for both Liam's and Noel's sake they one day fix things though and become brothers again. That being said I would still be excited if they did decide to give it another go, especially now Liam's voice sounds great again.

    • @stanios

I agree 100% with this Parfitt95, best to leave well enough alone. It’s pretty simple. Me and my brother were both raised in a very abusive household. VERY ABUSIVE!!! We have always loved each other and would do many things together, but the truth is that each others presence would constantly remind us of our trauma and as we got older this became a major issue. We would fight over the most mundane shit, until one day, we blew up, said terrible things and it came to blows. We didn’t talk for 6 years. Finally, both of our wives got us together and demanded we get therapy. It took another 4 years before we could be comfortable around each other. I was eldest and dealt with the majority of our father’s abuse, but both of us suffered many terrible things. We are now on good terms, spend lots of time together and our families do many activities together. We aren’t rock stars or people in the news on a mass scale, yet it still effected our relationship. These guys need intensive therapy and I’m not sure either will ever admit it.

Even then I don't think Noel would agree to it. He may agree to a one-off gig in a five hundred capacity venue, if his Wife and kids plus Paul Weller and family were on a plane with fifteen minutes to go before hitting the World Trade Centre. It would still be a close call. And he would probably insist in playing the songs locked inside the transit by himself.

No it wouldnt at ALL LOL. Definitely Maybe is coming up on 30 years in 2024... Morning Glory the year after... Maybe you dont know how touring works, which is fair, but.... to create a massive tour 2 YEARS before MAJOR anniversaries start happening (which means special edition re-issues, and allll of the stuff that goes with it) would be idiotic, as a tour's main job is to promote a product of some kind.. I cant see a new album coming, so with that, the BEST time to start the ball rolling, not even the shows, but simply the announcement, promo, n tix going on sale, would be approx 6 months before the 30 year anniversary of when it all began, Definitely Maybe, which would be SUMMER of 2024, n then they could STAY on the road, promoting re-issues of that one etc ALL THE WAY until October 95, the 30th of Morning Glory, and keep going on another re-issue romp for another year or more, soaking it alllll up. I'd make the announcement n start promo campaign in December 2023, and would be hitting the road by May or June, creating hype n momentum for the Definitely Maybe re-release shenanigans, n with my plan, could keep it going globally for 3 years at least. And believe me, these factors are a major consideration when talking tours of this importance, status, and size. Squeeze every possible drop out of the opportunity. So to start NOW, in spring 2022? Makes no strategic sense whatsoever, on any level. \m/

    • @cessxiii
      @cessxiii 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Eagles announced their reunion, n quickly had an unplugged companion album to sell and promote on the tour.. GnR announced their reunion in 2016, by mid 2017 Appetite For Destruction special editions came.... N since, they've kept dropping things periodically. This was all part of the plan. To not do it this way would 100% downsize the entire thing, and I believe Noel and Liam would have 0 interest in reconnecting in a downsized format... lol

I actually wrote a comment on oasismaniaoffial’s post a year or so ago which Liam actually ended up responding to.
I wrote something about an Oasis reunion wouldn’t be a great idea. The public image/reputation of the band around the DOYS album (2007-2009 era) was really not great and I didn’t wish the bad rep would re-emerge if the band went back into the public. Right now Oasis has a healthy reputation because of the past (like other bands that cease to exist)
Liam ended up responding to my comment saying “Nobody’s asking you so sit down zip it”
I might have hit a soft spot 🤷🏼‍♂️

i think there is so much to this story, because the way the media went after Liam clearly affected him. The media would often play up their fights and make jokes about it so much that it became part of every interview. Noel would often make jokes about leaving the band which would upset Liam and make him think Noel was conspiring with the media.
But there’s also times noel has called out the press for hounding Liam. I don’t think it’s all on liam for what caused the rift in their relationship. I feel for Noel deeply, but it’s so clear his brother was struggling badly with the press. You can look back at old interviews of liam and see how laid back he is. Despite the bad blood, there clearly is a lot of love between them.

It was Noel who beat Liam up, not the other way round, yet you're trying to present Liam as the abuser. I don't care what he said, nothing justifies physical violence.
I have not heard a single story about Liam getting violent on Noel, but just in this video you have mentioned two examples of Noel physically assaulting Liam (during the recording sessions and during the cancelled gig).
Their relationship was clearly toxic from both sides, Noel was just as abusive as Liam. Perhaps even more so, given that he seems to be the only one to have actually beaten the other up repeatedly 😢

It's just a dumb argument. Also, I don't understand the Liam resurgence at all!!! I only heard the first album but couldn't even remember it the next day. The songs were just ok. Nothing special. And does he still not write his songs? He co writes with others? I don't get it.

Great video. But what an utter shit show. I'm with Noel though, even if Liam may or may not be coming from a place of anger issues relating to childhood, you can't just forgive the targeting of your family. Liam seems to have a heart, in private but he needs to grow up. In a way I don't think he has come massively out of Noel's shadow, great success which is good, but from the odd set list I've seen the lions share are Oasis songs written by Noel. He has enough of his own songs to justify most of them being his own. But I'm sure this is becuase of his love and nostalgia for Oasis, and I can't fault him for that.

I was at the V Festival where Oasis were due to play. I’ll never forget the absolute disappointed and frustration that went through the arena section as the big screens informed everyone that due to ‘illness’ they would no longer be playing and Snow Patrol would be headlining. I actually thought ‘fuck this’, stumbled back to my tent in my drunken, sunburnt state, picked up a couple of things and left the site to go home. Left basically everything there (including the people I went with) and got the coach from the site to Chelmsford train station.

They should NOT reunite. Oasis was about being young, about youth and represented a time. And what we should remember is they outlasted The Beatles, Sex Pistols and Nirvana and managed to be a 'big' and massively successful band for longer than any of those bands. What Oasis achieved I doubt no other rock band could ever match. So they've had their time. It would just be about Noel doing it for the money and not for the right reasons

Why would anyone want to get Oasis back?
C'mon lads, speaking from a hardcore Oasis supporter who've seen them all around the world several times, met them personally- Oasis changed my life. We have Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory, all the masterpieces B- Sides from that era, great stuff on Be Here Now, SOTSOG, HC and their fantastic B- Sides.
We now all know that the last couple of records were not really historical albums to say the least. They have some nice moments but a lot of average stuff. You're probably not gonna get another epic material even if Oasis got back together tonight. Noel ran his course as a songwriter and Liam is way passed his prime and good vocal years.
What do you expect to get from a reunion? Wanna be snugged in a stadium/field floor with no room to breath let alone stand just so you could hear Slide Away played by these guys again? Let me save it for you. You don't really need it.
You want good music? be inspired by Oasis and go on to write music yourselves. Form your own bands and write your own songs. The world would much benefit from that and so would you, regarding the shitty situation the music industry is at right now.

I see myself in them, being working class and having an alcoholic father, even though I'm not even from the UK. Music and art were my escape from reality. At the end of the day Liam & Noel’s relationship is pretty much the same as loads of brothers in families in Manchester, we live on council estates, falling out with each other, kicking off with each other regularly and kicking the fuck out of each other, slagging each other off, we all act like nob heads thinking we’re right, getting into trouble, getting wasted, drinking & taking drugs, it’s 80% of brothers I know living across Manchester.
As for the band Oasis had there time, achieving worldwide success selling millions of records and selling out gigs to thousands across the globe, they did it for along time and over time it takes its tole, gets repetitious and boring, some would carry on while many would call it a day, move on and try new things, that would depend on how strong or broken your personal family relationship is.
They some catchy tunes that I don’t mind and quite like so I wouldn’t say a hate Oasis, but they were pretty shite and over rated, Manc’s who play in bands are similar in lots of ways and cool as fuck, just many people from other towns & cities seem to love the Manc musician charisma cos it is the best city to live with a brilliant music culture and being part of it being a musician playing in bands in Manchester is and has been a top way to live your life as I have for over 30yrs and still do. I’m glad Noel says they won’t get back together cos I don’t want them to, it’s always a bad idea, when bands do get back together it never lives up to all the hype and is never what fans expect and ends up being a flop.
Who fucking cares that much that they want and plead for them to reform, they were just and Manchester band who came along at the right time, there’s plenty of other Manchester bands much better gone before Oasis and still playing now cos Manchester will always produce great music, too bands who are cool.

James thank you very much for the Oasis historical background you provide in this video. You have done a number of these and you have done a great job with all of them. It is kind of depressing to me tho. It plays back old tapes from my own childhood/adolescence, Catholic church and upbringing, authoritarian old school father, etc. That leads me to my own conclusions regarding the two brothers.
But first let me ask you what do you hope to get from a reunion? And realistically how do you think it is possible? These two are carrying around a lot of garbage with them that has built up from the deep past which you allude to in the video. What would be required to start a joint cleansing for the two? I am not a psychologist but it would seem there would need to be some kind of professional help required to get thru all that past BS going back to childhood. Not easy.
Can you imagine those two in the studio or practice sessions now? Noel had complete control in the Oasis days. Is that going to be the case now? The situation would seem to be highly instable. Just one little thing to provoke a memory of the past and then what do you have?
Noel's right James IMHO. He sees the situation for what it is: a huge likelihood of disaster and disappointment and he is not inclined to to give in to fans wet dreams about a reunion just to go through that. At least IMHO.
But hey James this is not meant to be a criticism just an opinion! You do a great job with this and as a relatively recent Oasis fan I greatly appreciate your work and insights on this remarkable group.

I'd like to mention that Zane Lowe clip. Lowe is one of the most lazy, condescending and tone deaf interviewers. He consistently holds interviews with musicians as if he's their equal and it's excruciating to watch. He always chimes in with his personal thoughts on the person he's interviewing, and that's a cover for Lowe's laziness and lack of preparation for the interview.
Check his interview with Anthony from RHCP .. you can see Anthony looking at him thinking "where's he going here with his cod psychology.."
The only difference between Anthony and Noel is Anthony being American is very conscious that the interview is about the band and out of sheer American manners, just listened and put up with Lowe's rattling on.
Noel on the other hand just cut him short 'Can I just stop you there .." I absolutely loved it when Noel put that jaded hack in his place. You could see Lowes face .. scrambling for a claw back. Just goes to show how lazy and out of touch Lowe is.

I do get why the younger generation wants them to get back because they never got the chance to see them live and that's totally understandable. But the fact is noel is done, unless they were completely skint and needed cash then I could see a possibility but even then it would be a maybe. He also mentioned that Oasis was his biggest achievement but it's part of the past but no one knows what can happen in the future. And he ended up saying "it's good that Liam's Twitter rant is at peace. Hope it keeps like that" He clearly likes that Liam is not insulting him or his family lately. Noel and Liam weren’t returning because they love each other , it’ll be a pure money grab. My hope would be them being friendly to each other or actually being brothers, ideally before their mom passed away.

I don't know how you could watch a 40 minute video explaining several instances where Liam was the abusive one and come to the conclusion he's the bully. Yeah right.

@@doctorrobert1339 the aggressor isn’t always the bully, mind games and controlling is also a form of bullying, which Noel as unfairly learnt from his abusive father

as a singer songwriter/frontman I KNOW what its like to write 95% of the music, book the gigs, call the record companies, organise 5 guys to get there arses to rehearsal and then had to sing play guitar and be the fronyman while the guitarist just had to hold down a few chords. I totally understand Noel. ALL LIAM DID WAS SING. Didnt even have to carry a fookin guitar. Liam is a knob. Hes not funny. Noels wit devestates his. Oasis were boring anyway. Although theyve written some amazing songs.

Liam found his apologetic spirit in For What It's Worth

That was aimed at Gene really for cheating on Nat (his mum) and partly for her I imagine. Just all that mess and likely including past pain for family such as those impacted by him cheating on Patsy.

There is absolutely no need for a reunion. Their best songs have been written, their best concerts have been played, all former band members are in their 50s, so it won't get any better than 25 years ago. Oasis would just become another nostalgic band like Kiss and the Eagles did when reuniting back in 1996. This means playing old hits to old fans and releasing some mediocre new albums now and then, which nobody really needs. Better demand a decent release of the '97 G-Mex show on Blu-ray. Watching this would be much more fun than a disappointing and disillusioning reunion tour of an aging band. The attempt of reviving a long gone era always fails. Don't ruin the legacy.

No it isn’t too late! It’s never too late! Noel is a great songwriter and Liam is a great front man. Most importantly though, Oasis is greater than the sum of its parts and I would travel for weeks on horse back to watch Oasis play live again.
