  • In early 1994, Oasis hit the headlines before their first single had even been released. This is the full story of what really happened on a ferry to Amsterdam, told from start to finish for the first time.
Many images and videos in my TH-cam content have been found online without any attribution or credit available. In many cases I have therefore not been able to add a credit in the videos themselves due to lack of information. If your image or video has been used and a credit is required, please email me with your details and evidence of authorship and a credit will be added into the video description.
    Many thanks, JH.

Not only has Oasis never gotten canceled from their behavior in the 1990s, but there is still actual demand for Oasis to reunite. They could sell out Wembley on a Wednesday if they really wanted to.

@@MedalionDS9 Yeah lmao, the tabloids and media were out to get them for their behavior, and they're still seen as jokes in most of the rock world and many of my close friends agree. I'm the only Oasis fan in my friend group haven't really met another fan outside of the internet. Yet a reunion from them is in high demand but I'm sure a lot of people would also tune in expecting a trainwreck. Although I'll give them credit on the fact that I've never heard them say bigoted shit.

Aye. Dead-on, that assessment is! I very much enjoy his Oasis videos as a #MadFerItAmerican! Maybe it's because my father had a pretty damned-good, 'blue-collared' job that was a part of a labor union over here. Idk. But I immediately identified w/The Gallagher Bros & their working-class background. I loved a lot of Nirvana's tunes! Both the hits AND the deep cuts! But fuck me! I was no more than 12 when Cobain (allegedly) shot himself, & as I got a few yrs older, the fan worship was so intense, I was legitimately afraid one of my friends would "off themselves" to be like Cobain! And plus, I wanted laid, & that wasn't gonna happen w/long, greasy hair, shot-to-hell blue jeans, ratty flannel shirts, & shitty shoes! I wanted to dress sharp, have shorter hair, wear cool shoes, & then get laid! Oasis made all that possible! (except, of course, the getting laid part! Hehe. But that DID come shortly after I got a haircut, different clothes and shoes, & learned guitar!) I just hate that they'd already done Earl's Court, Maine Road, The Point Depot, Loch Lomond AND Knebworth before they really caught fire here! Oh, Wonderwall blew them up in America in Winter of December '95/January '96, but we weren't aware they were abt to do these HUGE, MONSTER FUCKING GIGS, to over a quarter of a million fans in August '96, because the internet wasn't everywhere! But they finally got their due, Stateside, & became a *true arena rock band* in '05, on the 'Don't Believe the Truth' Tour! They sold out Madison Square Garden, The Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The GMU Patriot Center, & Credit Union 1 Arena, just to name a few of the largest venues they sold out on that particular tour..

    • @mywhychromosome
      @mywhychromosome 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@matthewrider6453 As a fellow yank, I know exactly what you mean by how long it took them to get their due here (exacerbated by Liam's seemingly constant sabotage or abandonment of US tours), although, in a sense, it was cool...I didn't come around to Oasis until they started making headway again with "Don't Believe The Truth", after which I went back and started listening to all the early b-sides and etc etc, I had been into much artier/punkier/experimental stuff (still am, but there's room for all of it now). But I had a friend that saw them multiple times before that, and he was seeing them in relatively small, largely general admission venues whereas in the UK, you get stuck with those massive, faceless, I-need-binoculars stadiums where it's not even worth seeing a show, if you ask me. In the same way, on Noel's first HFB tour I saw him at a smallish theater and it was very easy to get close to him in general, whereas again, in the UK, even him alone is enough of a draw to end up in one of those yawning cavernous megaplexes. So there are advantages.

I can tell you one part of Noel's account that is definitely wrong. @@user04683 February is actually the middle of the season. It runs from August - May. That's why West Ham couldn't have been playing a pre-season friendly, pre-season games are in July. And, as West Ham weren't playing in European competition, they couldn't have got that muddled up with a pre-season game.
I'm not saying there weren't any West Ham fans on the ferry, just that if there were, they weren't going to Amsterdam to watch their team play.
Noel is a great storyteller but he does on occasion like to embellish. There might have been a handful of West Ham fans going to Amsterdam to get drunk and high and fall in the canals but there wouldn't have been loads of them.

They undoubtedly had the tunes back then, but without all the tabloid publicity, Oasis might have just been as big as a very big NME band. The ferry incident was probably worth about six months of touring, publicity-wise. Likewise the stupid chart battle a year or so later. Blur were much higher profile and sold more albums until both bands ended up on the six o'clock news. By the time Morning Glory came out in October, Oasis had a years worth of national tabloid coverage and it's little wonder the album took off like a rocket. Wonderwall just added more fuel.

I’m sure I’ve read or heard an interview where it said Noel still played the show as a short acoustic set… never seen it confirmed but would love to know what the set list was if so being so early on.

West Ham wouldn’t be on a pre season tour in Feb. Likely Noel was just using West Ham because back then they had a bad rep.

  • @lucasm3879

Half a bottle of JD each is about 7 double measures in my workings - so that's around 1.5 to 2 double measures an hour per person over 4.5 hours. It's not that astronomical really. Just a standard session. 😄 Also they were doing coke, which allows you to drink more without getting pissed.
Also, why would it be pre season tour for West Ham IN FEBRUARY?? Pre season is in July, February is smack bang in the middle of the season. West Ham were definitely not playing in Europe in '94 either!

peggy gallagher was from Mayo. and noel and liam are very close to her, they used family holidays to mayo as a way to escape Tommy Gallagher. oasis gigs in ireland were a homecoming event. I should know. i tried to get tix for the point gig in 1996 HMV kept putting the phone down. all sold out.

That picture of Noel standing next to the gig poster has The name Sally right above Oasis on it.... coincidence?? Or has that possibly got something to do with "so sally can wait?" I know u did a video & have went into who Sally represents in the song but could the name itself have been taken from this? Even subconsciously, whoever the Sally in the poster is, i'm assuming another band "Legged Sally" Pegged Hegged or whatever & if above them on the bill then would have been expecting them to turn up as supporting them. And so sally can wait.... she knows it's too late.

They were going to play in the Arena just near the Oosterpark. A small club where I went many times during the nineties. It’s not like Paradiso or the Melkweg.

Wow I always here people, from The Foo fighters to fans all saying they want Oasis to reunite! But everybody is forgetting the feelings of The band itself ! If Noel doesn’t want to reunite because He feels He doesn’t want too, Well Then Everybody should show their love of the band by respecting & supporting His decision! Just Thank ‘‘em for their LOVE & MUSIC AND JUST MOVE ON…!!!??

This really explains why Oasis were over before they began. They were never serious musicians, and they were already living the perceived ‘rockstar’ lifestyle, without putting in the hard-yards and getting established before being derailed by drugs/booze. They probably had more success than they ever remotely deserved, and probably only because Liam sold papers..he was good for the newspaper/magazine business.

I'm glad Noel got the last of the float. I know what it's like to be the only sane member of a band, so I was really happy to hear that! What a bunch of dickheads, it's no wonder he always looks so annoyed. I imagine he could have played the 'Dam gig solo and he probably would have done just fine.
