    I have the Betta SE model. The one before the new one featured in this video. I can 100% verify that it does not work when it’s cloudy ☁️ 🌥️ ☁️ I initially thought it was broken lol 😂 However, when it is sunny the Betta is AWESOME! It picks up everything and works all night long as well. I hardly ever skim the pool myself, so I love it for that. Anyone who is watching this video and considering to buy one, it’s 100% worth it.

    Thank you for the review, I have a lot of trees around my pool and I used to have to scoop the surface every day. Since having this I have not had to scoop the pool once. I live in California and the cleaner runs through the night as the pool is in full sun year round. I had a Polaris 280 cleaner, and found that the Betta was constantly getting caught up on the hose, so I purchased the Polaris Freedom cordless robotic cleaner and my pool has never been cleaner. Because of the Polaris freedom, I don’t have to run a separate booster pump, and it reaches every part of the pool including the tile line and thanks to the betta, I don’t need to put the Polaris in the pool every day.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It will still try and run. As long as the battery is still charged it will still run. It won't damage the skimmer but you'll notice it because of all the debris it's probably pushing around in front of it.

    I had to return my SE Plus. It would reverse, and start pushing debris out of the front, back into the pool. It did this every time it reversed. I hung on for a week and a half, hoping it would correct itself, but it still kept doing it. They should design it where impeller would disengage when it is reversing.

    I have the non-auxiliary charging model. This skimmers work great. However, this is the 3rd skimmer I have owned, each of different brands, and none of them last an entire year without the batteries failing and the unit having to be returned for repair. This is the current status of my betta which has already been returned once during ownership. I’m going to see if it’s possible for me to replace the batteries myself this time around

      My problem isnt so much skimming debris it is all the sand whipped up that wont get caught with a skimmer net...then settles to the bottom in dirt piles...my aquanaught 250 is random and always decides to skip the dirt piles would this pick up all the fine dirt on the top before it settles

I live in Australia and mine worked solid (even through the night, which is spooky seeing the green lights moving around your pool in the dark) for 2 days and now still works till 3-4am before waiting for the sun. Haven't had any issues with the jets running at the same time. I turned the pump off and it moves pretty much the same with or without.
      Wind slowing it down is interesting. I mean it makes sense if you get a lot of wind. Like if I use my blower and blow the skimmer directly it'll slow it down. But that's the same for all skimmers.

    How well does it do at picking up leaves along the wall? That's where the leaves tend to accumulate.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Since the Betta begins to turn as it senses a wall, a lot of debris along the wall won't be picked up. However, when the Betta turns and moves it creates sort of a ripple movement effect in the water and debris along the wall will begin to move and hopefully away from the wall where the Betta will have another chance at picking up that debris later on.
      Remember, these skimmers are made to be automatic and left alone to do the job over time. As long as you understand that they're slow working cleaners you'll be surprised how well the skimmers pick up debris.

  • @jamespetersen7214
    @jamespetersen7214 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Most likely a dumb question but will ask it anyways. With the Betta SE Plus, can I just put that in my pool and let it run all day and night if it has enough power to do so? I have it but I turn it off at night.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can leave it in the pool 24/7! But depending on the season, it may or may not have enough power for the next day.
      Summer/swim season will be great. It runs all day and night and you only really take it out when you need to empty it or if you go swimming. Because even though it runs through the night and uses the battery, by the time the sun rises it automatically starts recharging and keeps moving at the same time. And usually, will be fully charged again when the sun goes down. Love this during swim season!
      But this is in optimal swim season. In the Fall and Winter you will definitely need to take it out and charge or turn it off before the evening to save power for the next day.

    I had a model from a different mfg. That robot skimmer would constantly get stuck on the bottom auto cleaner hose. I noticed you pulled your cleaner out for your video. Does yours get stuck on the hose or does it avoid it?

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh when I filmed this the sun was going down and the hose to my side cleaner was stuck so I pulled it out of the pool and left it connected while I put the skimmer in.
      Technically, most manufacturers recommend not using ANY other cleaner in the pool at the same time as the skimmer. But from my testing, there is an exception but only with a cordless robotic cleaner.
      So you can use a cordless robotic cleaner at the same time as a pool skimmer and be perfectly fine. I've tested skimmers before with cleaners attached to a hose or cord and it always gets stuck. Only cordless works well

    Thank you for the video! How does it do with bugs? Are the bugs able to get out of the trap and does it collect the little bugs as well as larger ones? Thx

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      As long as the skimmer is moving, debris doesn't escape out of it. However, when it slows down around a wall/corner or reverse out of a tight spot, the brush/paddle that spins in the front slows down or stops if there's no power.
      When this happens, a majority of the debris stays inside the basket but some can flow out of it. Even if it was off the entire day, i'd say less than 5% of debris really escape.
      And yes, it captures small and big bugs as well. I've even pulled these skimmers open and found a bird inside before.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Betta, like every other automatic skimmer right now, does not recommend that you use it at the same time as any corded/hose cleaner. Mainly because all of these skimmers' sensors detect the cord and hoses as debris and try to suck it up rather than an object to avoid and get around. That's why I moved the side cleaner out.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you can. They mean not to use it with corded cleaners with a plug that goes into the outlet to power it or hose cleaners like a suction cleaner that has a hose floating in the pool. This is because the skimmers don't sense the cord or hoses as obstacles. They think it's debris and try to suck it in and so gets caught in it instead of get around it.
      I've used all these skimmers with cordless cleaners and they work just fine. You should be fine especially with a floor cleaner that doesn't climb up the wall. And even if it did, I've watched my cordless wall climbers hit the skimmer at the right time, and it's fine, no damage and just continues along the way cleaning.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a good question. I occasionally spray my skimmers with a water hose to wash off the dirt on top of the solar panels. This helps to keep the panels free from dirt and allows more sunlight to be captured. I wouldn't think that continuous water from a waterfall would damage it as long as the skimmer isn't fully submerged underwater.

      On the bottom of the skimmer there are these two bars, one on each side, called anti-strand bars. If the skimmer gets stuck on the steps you can extend the bar further out so that it doesn't go over the steps. You have to push the tabs to lower or raise the bars.

    I just got mine & so far it’s great. I like the Beta SE plus that I can charge because I run it mostly at night when the pool light is on so it picks up the bugs the pool light attracts. My skimmers do a good job job - but this guy picks the bugs and nats faster. So far I really like it!

    Mine keeps getting stuck on hose or canister. Solution?

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All of these skimmers are designed to work without other corded cleaners in the pool. Otherwise, like you're experiencing, they get caught up in the cord/hose. Technically, you're supposed to remove the hose cleaner each time, but I know it's not convenient at all. The only real way around it right now, unfortunately, is to use a cordless cleaner with these skimmers.

    How’s the filter option. Like a robot wall and floor cleaner filter. Get micron finer filter

      @imdefinitelydavid  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They're all normal fine filters, none of these skimmers have an ultra-fine.

    Can you run the pressure side cleaner at the same time as the betta?

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've tried it before, but the Betta gets caught in the hose a lot. Especially if the pressure cleaner is on and moving at the same time. Technically, you're not supposed to use a corded type of cleaner with the Betta at the same time, but I tried it, and it really limits how the Betta moves in the pool

      @@imdefinitelydavid Thanks, David. One more question. I currently run my pressure side cleaner daily. Would the Betta allow me to stop running the pressure side cleaner so often?

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, that's one of the main reasons why most people including myself, get these automatic skimmers. Makes less work and need to run a cleaner way less often.

    Why in the middle of the basket theres a raised plastic circle??? Unable to brush debris out.

    • @imdefinitelydavid
      @imdefinitelydavid  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you're talking about the paddle brush that spins in the lower front of it?
      The paddle is designed to help move water/debris that's collected behind it. Like it's for directing the flow of water. Without it, even more debris would escape out of it on turns and reversing

    • @TommyJones49
      @TommyJones49 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No if take basket out it's raise plastic circle not a flat bottom inside the basket. Must always use hose as raised black plastic circle inside basket prevents brushing out debris.

      No. I'm almost certain it's not rated to hold a 220v. It will likely fry the skimmer

    I purchased the Betta SE Plus…I like it much better than the Ariel I used to have BUT….when in reverse, small debris floats back into the pool, then sinks to the bottom. There is no check flap preventing this. 😒

    The debris pickup in the demo seems really weak. My Ariel pool robot by Pivot Pool Products sucks in the debris with much more power since it has a front paddle wheel. Also the Ariel has a much nicer, better looking, simpler design. The only problem with the Ariel is that it is very unreliable, with internal mechanical parts failing all the time on the Ariel. A solar pool skimmer is one of the best pieces of pool equipment, but I just can't seem to find a good one. I'm stuck with either constantly repairing the Ariel, or buying this clunky and worse performing Betta SE Plus.

    they need to put better solar panels on it. After 1 year ours is so oxidized from the sun it only runs for about 3 hours. bad investment if you have to replace it every 2 years.

    I have 4 of these units and they all work great for about 3 months then they break. After you buy one and they come out with a new model they won't fix or replace the unit you already have. It's a wonderful idea but they truly have a"SUCK FACTOR OF 10". Do not buy!!!!!!! Your wasting your money. I've spent numerous dollars numerous dollars replacing them, sending them back for repair (When they will repair them), and shipping them. This company is in CA so it's expensive to do. Learn from my stupidity!!!!!!!!
